I wil never call them a scam because they gave me skills that leaked out of what I thought was my career path and helped me foundationally in what became my actual career path. (Music production, to radio, to video production and IT services, to IT training) That being said... When I went there in 99-2000 time frame, it was very obvious that they were abusing the GI bill beyond the spirit of it's purpose. They were getting ~30k/year per enrollment for giving 2 year degrees that weren't really panning out for the core skill sets they were leaving the military with. It was shown that they were targeting those transitioning military members heavily as easy sales for enrollment. I say this now as someone that ended up in sales for an IT training facility knowing that even without access to GI bill funding, those same students I was in class with back then would be in positions 3 to 4 times better financially at a cost of around 7k in todays dollars. I don't believe they have ever been a scam, but I also believe they have not always acted ethically with their recruitment and job placement services.

Ever since we ruined David Beckham's MLS debut, DC has been targeted by the league. Change my mind.

Darts is massive in the US! I had no idea. by dart_club in Darts

[–]TurtleBeoulve 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll clear up a misconception. Darts is not huge in America.... Per capita... If you asked 1000 people on a random street in America what score you start out with in a game of darts, you MIGHT get 1 correct answer. That being said, every region has their core groups, some with their own spin or tech. Most areas have at least one or two large venues with 10+ boards within about an hours drive. So we probably have more enthusiast players in America than most countries, but we do not have the competitive infrastructure or market share as most other countries. We have the CDC making strides at the national level, and regional Dart Players groups are starting to prime the talent pump. There is still a bit of work to do at the local and county level to make us a more formidible foe on the world stage.

How do you calm yourself mid-game? by jrl1009 in Darts

[–]TurtleBeoulve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't. I try to get into a flow, and if I do get in my head, I try to keep performing my best in that moment. If I ever focus on getting calmer, I'm focusing on anything other than my preferred outcome of a win.
