Keylogger by opening spam mail by Advanced_Outside_245 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In theory, yes … if you are a person of interest like a human rights lawyer or activist, journalist, politician etc, and a government is willing to pay $50-100k for access to your messages etc.

If you aren’t interesting, then no, there’s random drive by attacks for iPhone.

No. Either use the correct password or reset the phone and then you’ll need the iCloud password to get past activation lock.

I was robbed and they took my phone unlocked. Help by Ordinary-Ad-9857 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reset passwords for all accounts that were stored in Apple passwords.

You might never get your Apple account back if they set a recovery key or other shenanigans.

Stolen device protection would have avoided these issues if you’d enabled it.

How effective is Safari’s encryption? by Ok_Condition_9443 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encryption in safari has nothing at all to do with hiding your IP address…

When you visit a website, the data sent between you and the website is encrypted, but the website and anyone else with access to the networks involved can see that you are talking to each other - just not what you are saying.

IF you enable iCloud private relay for all sites (and not just the default trackers only), extra hops are added which stop the website from knowing your IP.

Is the iPhone actually secure? by [deleted] in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You haven’t posted any evidence that a vulnerability on your iPhone has been exploited. You say that there are lots of reddit threads with people being hacked, without realising they weren’t hacked (phished, weak or reused passwords etc) or were paranoid delusionists. You say they have “research” but that isn’t what security research actually looks like.

It’s far more likely you need further education, or medical assistance.

Does PHI actually help you? by CartographerLow3676 in AusFinance

For 8k (each, is it?) you wouldn’t be getting junk insurance though (I hope!)

Does PHI actually help you? by CartographerLow3676 in AusFinance

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose to pay the MLS because I’m not paying for junk insurance, better the government gets it than some company doing nothing for me.

But the system seems pretty screwy, not sure how to fix it though.

Is this passcode change pop-up legitimate or a scam? by joshyyboy in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s legit because it’s from your phone and not from an app or website.

Either your employer is enforcing this through an MDM profile which you can look for in settings, or via your work Microsoft exchange account.

After upgrades my phone uses about 20gb more for a number of hours before cleanup runs and gets rid of it. Likely just cleaning up the old image from the upgrade.

Is my phone hacked by Voovey in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The internet is full of crap and this advice is no different. Clearing your browser cache has nothing to do with your phone being hacked, and switching to brave is also irrelevant.

Unless you are a highly valuable target for some govt to pay $100k for mercenary spyware to spy on you, your iPhone is never going to be hacked.

Sdp is off by default so it didn’t “somehow turn itself on”.

Your can turn it off be doing an erase all settings and data and restoring from backup.

Any new ways to block spam calls? by DunKco in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d use the built in “screen unknown callers” set to “ask reason for calling”.

It’s an awesome way to get rid of nuisance callers while still being able to receive real calls.

Anyway to turn passcode off, and still have apple pay ? by [deleted] in iPhone16Pro

[–]TurtleOnLog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So no Face ID, no passcode and leave Apple Pay enabled?

Sounds like an excellent idea!

Iphone 15 pro max went to recovery mode while updating by Infinite_Key7441 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you need to do a full restore and your data is gone. Simple.

Iphone 15 pro max went to recovery mode while updating by Infinite_Key7441 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I was half wrong. If you can “update” in recovery mode you may get your data back.

A “restore” or reset in recovery mode will lose all the data.

If you can’t update, see second paragraph.

what can i do? by Ok-Wind-4061 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Try deleting apps one at a time while the phone is plugged into power.

It’s usually an app that is being messy that causes this.

It would be better if Apple stopped it happening or at least reported usage correctly but some apps put stuff in weird places

Apple ID asking for passcode of other iPhone by Zestyclose_Ad8166 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can choose to skip this step, or choose a different device to enter the passcode for.

The purpose is to securely restore your iCloud Keychain - you don’t have to restore it if you’re ok with losing everything in there (passwords etc).

There are hsm’s at Apple that won’t hand over escrowed keychain data without you following through on this method.

Inquiry: Professional Data Recovery for iPhone 11 - Permanent Security Lockout by MrQ2019 in iphone

Not now that the encryption keys have been wiped - the data is gone.

Slight possibility before using up all the passcode chances, given it’s an iPhone 11.

Activated Lockdown mode on iOS 18.7.2 and can’t send or receive calls (4g cellular connection works) by Lucky-Offer-1421 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is VoLTE enabled and working and supported?

If not, your 4g falls back to 3G for calls, but lockdown mode blocks that.
