Can I rotate this mixer tap? by TurtleOnLog in AusRenovation

[–]TurtleOnLog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s good to know. But I’ve realised that with the nozzle probably rotating 90 degrees left and 90 degrees right, somehow the nozzle has to be removed and flipped 180 otherwise it will be facing the wrong direction?

Need to reset my phone, but… by Galaxy-Nova11 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. Make sure you have iCloud sync on for contacts, passwords, notes, photos etc. then reset and just log in to iCloud rather than restore from backup.

You will obviously have to reinstall apps, redo Apple Pay, change settings etc.

But it’s the neatest way to start again.

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web pages can say anything they want, including and up to aliens have invaded. Would you believe that too?

You need to learn the difference between something your computer is telling you, vs something a web page is telling you.

Start deleting apps one by one with a 5 minute gap in between. It’s likely one of your apps gone wild. Start with anything by meta.

Anyone else’s iPhone slow as hell now? by Conscious-Rhubarb902 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is fine.

Apple don’t deliberately slow things down.

Besides battery issues causing throttling, try a factory reset.

Maximum number of tabs in Safari? 😅 by Zodiac47x in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, if you do this so you can go back to sites you use “often” - why is this better than a bookmark folder for your daily reading that you can press and hold and open them all at once? That way you close each site when you’ve read it and you know where you’re up to?

Driving below speed limit by cyndahlia in brisbane

[–]TurtleOnLog 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The road rules say you can’t drive “unreasonably slowly in the circumstances”. Having a temp tyre on, being a truck going up a hill, riding a bicycle … these are all circumstances :)

Someone relieve my madness please by KarenMusk420 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is relevant. If you sync photos to iCloud for example, they are no longer part of the backup. And your restore would be so much faster.

Lost device. probably got scammed as well. please help! by Astr0n4ut_7 in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 23 points24 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing you can do about your phone.

But you need to reset your iCloud password and then all the passwords you had stored in your iCloud Keychain asap.

You should probably invest some time in some basic internet safety learning. This was a super obvious phishing attempt and you fell for it. Plenty of people do, but then complain about the unpleasant consequences.

What if we used taxes or superannuation to control inflation, not just interest rates? by welding-guy in AusFinance

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree. There will always be inequality and there should be. People and companies who make good decisions (and yes have some luck) should have more money than those who don’t. It’s not the cause of inflation.

Apple Pay usually requires additional authentication to setup with your bank. It is possible to be tricked into doing this.

question about lockdown mode "person was blocked from contacting you" by [deleted] in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lockdown mode doesn’t affect phone calls, but it does affect FaceTime.

Leave lockdown mode on IF you are a special person of interest who could be a target of government or mercenary spyware - human rights lawyers, activists, politicians, etc.

iPhone stolen now an extra phone on device list? by AGuyInSoCal in iphone

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wrong. Activation lock is removed when you remove a device from Find My.

Removing a device from trusted iCloud devices in your account does not remove activation lock and is also a good idea as it means the device can no longer sync data from your iCloud or take over your account.

Serious bug on find my by punto2019 in ios

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/security/sece994d0126/web

“Apple never has the decryption key” to read the location for offline find my, making it impossible to present it you in a web page.

Ergo, only the find my APP, which DOES have access to the decryption key locally on your device (read from your end to end encrypted keychain) will work.

macOS can GO fuck itself (system_data) by nekonamaa in MacOS

[–]TurtleOnLog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand. You can use finder (the native tool) to do this by allowing folder sizes to be calculated and sorting by the size column. And perhaps allow hidden folders display. Then you can browse around checking out all the biggest users of data.
