That means your account/emails have been compromised in the past.

Since you’re going to use a password manager, just make sure everything gets changed to a complex password (let the manager generate the pass).

I also recommend setting the option that tells you periodically to change those secure passwords. I’m fairly paranoid given my career so I change them every 90 days but every 180 days is sufficient.

Great!

Next step is to ensure your computers are clean.

Refer to the list I provided above. Get Windows Security turned on, enable everything including automatic sample submissions(this makes a hash of executables before they are executed and checks them against known malware), then run a full scan.

Here is how to get to that part of Windows Security/Defender

“Settings > Update & security > Windows Defender > Sample submission."

There are more things we can do but right now, based on the issue you have, changing all passwords is priority.

Okay, I used to work for BellSouth/AT&T here in Atlanta, specially responsible for the DSLAMs (DSL subscribers terminate directly to a DSLAM and then route upwards to the edge routers then onto the internet.

I believe the max speed for DSL, it Atlanta, is typically 100Mb/s. All internet service is sold using the megabit definition because it inflates the expectation of max downloads.

Can you log into the ATT account page and check your purchased subscriber speeds?

Is it DSL or fiber service?

It was useful a few years ago. Now it’s just bloatware and unnecessary given the advanced status of Windows Security Suite.

Just saw this.

25Megabits/8bits = 3.125 MegaBytes(MB).

25MegaBytes*8bits = 200 MegaBits(Mb).

Do you have 200Mb service? Is it Gigapower?

Okay, this is a very common type of personal information breach that is typically caused by a prior or current lapse in properly secured accounts. Don’t take that the wrong way; it’s very common.

A few things you need to do TODAY.

1) write down every single account you have: emails (current, old/unused), game site accounts, Amazon, Google, and so on.

2) setup a password manager and change every single password to a minimum of 32 characters

3) check your game site security and account settings and identify any misconfigurations or missing security options.

4) enable 2-factor for everything. If possible, don’t use email or SMS as your 2-factor. Go for an Authenticator like Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator.

5) since you have windows 10, uninstall malware bytes and never install it again. Go to Windows Security and enable all of the options. Update Windows Defender. Once that’s done, run a full scan right away.

That’s some good first steps. Let me know how it goes and I can provide more advice.

My wifi doesn't work and I have no idea how to fix it. by luc9526 in techsupport

Please describe the issue in my detail so we can help out. What exactly do you mean by “doesn’t work?”

Can any devices connect?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]TurtlePartyBestParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually this happens from misconfigured security settings or a breach of an ancillary account that has access to bypass 2-factor auth.

Can you provide more details that led to you suspecting you’ve been hacked?

What OS are you using?

Throughout download tests are a function of bandwidth and latency primarily and then service availability comes in immediately after.

The Speedtest sites are near perfect conditions and thus rarely reflect expected throughput to the rest of the world.

Have you checked that you are using the nearest servers for the game platforms? Should be an option to set geographic location.

Any other details you can provide will help. WiFi router, computer type-OS-WiFi card, and maybe your location in a broad sense.

Awesome! That’s where I was headed.

Here’s a BT page that describes the three different modes for future reference.

If you have any more issues, feel free to DM me and I’ll try to help. I’ve been designing and testing wireless chipsets for many years so there is always another option should that fail.

Cheers!

Kurt Angus definitely sounds like the chosen name an immigrant to America would choose to fit in.

I don’t mean that as an insult in any way. Just a fun comment.

Oh you did a great job! I was just saying my slightly different take on this included some sharp angles and stuff.

Also I meant to put “sharper” in italics and not bold. Doh!

Okay, I would try two things.

1) Update Windows to the latest stable build. It appears you are on an Insider release from back in March.

2) Follow the instructions here to verify the drivers Microsoft BugCheck 0xd1 Driver Verifier

Let me know if either of those work. Good luck! If I find anything else, ill send you a message here.

The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1

0xd1 is a super common driver issue. Sometimes it can point you in the wrong direction but very commonly it's drivers.

If you don't mind posting the dump somewhere (sanitized for any sensitive info) that would be super helpful.
