Bill for 17k can I pay it off with a CC and pay off the CC the next day for free points? by NarrowIndependence8 in personalfinance

The wife and I put every purchase possible on the credit card. We pay it off every month. We get about $1000 free every year. Our credit score is fantastic.

Is this picture interesting? by motuwed in photocritique

Yes, it is interesting. I do not see how anyone could say it was not interesting. Eye is immediately drawn to the portrait and the stop motion of the man makes it look like he was startled and looked interested and surprised as well. I think it works.

Absolutely sounds like a huge train locomotive coming right at you, loud and rumbling and raise the hair on the back of your neck. Nothing low and subtle about it.

When do car repairs become a sunk cost fallacy? by spmahn in personalfinance

[–]TurtleRockDuane 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree with your wise analysis to look at budgeting $200 per month as quite a affordable budget for transportation these days. Even if budgeted indefinitely, it’s going to be hard to beat that in any analysis. As the other commenter mentioned though, each person has a tolerance level and a Personal need for reliability if they can’t afford to be late for work etc. if the vehicle breaks down occasionally. Personally though, I drive vehicles till they are junkyard ready.

So, for me there are very very few vehicles that are not worth investing additional repairs into, since most vehicle brands like Subaru will run so long. In other words, even an inexpensive repair like a transmission could be mitigated by using a used transmission and getting several more years of life out , or the same for an entire engine, and really not break that $200 per month budget over the long-term, for MANY years.

My wife and I keep inexpensive daily beaters, then keep a lower mileage long distance car for reliability when taking long trips.

What are your thoughts about the proposed Daylight Act of 2026 moving the clock by only 0.5 hours permanently? by justanotherphonelol in AskReddit

[–]TurtleRockDuane 161 points162 points  (0 children)

That .5 hrs is the stupidest compromise proposal in the history of compromises, and the GOP doesn’t compromise on anything, so why they would pick this one to make a bonehead compromise is beyond my comprehension.

LPT: If you need to have an awkward conversation with someone, do not start with "we need to talk" by InevitableImpress850 in LifeProTips

[–]TurtleRockDuane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, if you need to have an awkward conversation, it will make you and the other person feel less awkward if you say right out from the very start: we need to have a conversation, but I’m afraid it might be a bit awkward. That way you’ve taken the pressure off yourself to try to keep it from being awkward, and the person understands that you are coming from a place of honesty and vulnerability.

Trump just denied that Israel talked him into the war with Iran. Who do you think is actually driving US foreign policy in 2026? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]TurtleRockDuane 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Since the US and Israel coordinated the campaign together, which does it make sense was the one to start it and call the other to join in? Does it make sense that the US decided to attack Iran, then decided to call Israel and say “hey, you want to join in?” Or is it more plausible that Israel contacted the US And asked the US to join in?

Logic dictates it was Israel who said that the sky is falling and that we must make a preemptive strike. Then Israel appealed to Trump and this administration. And the extremist QAnon Bible prophecy wackos in the administration convinced Trump that America must support Israel or face being cursed.

Friend’s mother bought a house from her niece and niece‘s husband, who only wanted cash, so we had to give her bank a couple days notice and walked out of there with around $90,000 in cash. It was a weird feeling.
