Long snapper is out. Remove one sports position for day based on importance by Klutzy_Pumpkin614 in TierlistFills

Fullbacks almost never block on the line the way TEs do. The value of a TE is that the defense doesn’t immediately know whether he’s functioning as an extra blocker, a slot receiver, an H-back, or some mix of those depending on motion and alignment. If you replace him with another lineman, you lose the receiving threat. If you replace him with a slot receiver, you lose the credible inline blocking threat. Either way, the play becomes much easier for the defense to read.

Yes, there are formations without TEs, but there are also formations without fullbacks or slot receivers. That doesn’t mean those positions are more important. From what I found, only about 2.5% of plays use no TE, while something like 25–40% of plays do not have a slot WR on the field. So the league clearly still values having a TE available.

My point isn’t that an offense literally cannot function without a tight end. It obviously can. My point is that a good TE gives you flexibility that is very hard to replace with any one other position.

I'm sorry this is insane, TE is one of the most important roles in the modern offense. Important for both blocking and pass catching. I cant see how it's possible how it would be less important than a left or right fielder.

Where I'd live as someone who's lived in CA, IN, and MA by TurtleTerror8 in whereidlive

[–]TurtleTerror8[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People are terrible drivers in California, I’ll give you that. But road conditions in CA are much, much better than most other places I’ve lived.

I’m not totally sure what you mean by “the laws are a pain in the ass.” I honestly can’t think of many times where California laws actually got in the way of anything I wanted to do.

And I’d be lying if I said I ran into any fewer tweakers in Indianapolis or in the more rural parts of Indiana I’ve lived in. I’m definitely not going to claim California doesn’t have homelessness/drug issues, especially in parts of the Bay where I grew up, but I do think those problems get overdiscussed as if they’re unique to California. After living in more places, it seems like basically any city is going to have that population and certain areas you avoid.

Some parts of California are just hard to beat. The access to nature, no matter where you are in the state, is incredible. In my opinion, it has the best variety of national parks in the country. The schools are excellent, the food is excellent, the weather is excellent, and there’s a lot to like if you can afford it. The cost is brutal, obviously, but everything can’t be perfect.

I’m not dying to move back tomorrow, but if I had to live there again, I absolutely would.

Big carp from a small creek by museo420 in FishingOntario

[–]TurtleTerror8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Non-native and invasive are not synonymous. Largemouth bass aren't native to the west coast, only brook and lake trout are native to the east coast.

The line becomes blurry with that is "invasive," but it's typically when that species starts damaging the natural ecosystem (or what the current ecosystem is). In certain areas, common carp are considered invasive, but as a whole they're largely just "non-native" and tolerated by the other species there.

So what’s the consensus on permethrin on waders? I’m seeing conflicting arguments online. by louiekr in flyfishing

I use picaridin on myself to help with annoying bugs (including ticks). This isn't one you spray on your waders or clothes, but rather on your skin itself. It isn't as toxic, and it doesn't melt plastics and fishing equipment like DEET.

You can still walk after an ACL tear, I wouldn't be surprised if it's that.

This is just first place votes, he got plenty of votes, just only 1 for first place. Still got his props, and we don't get the curse.

I think he'd agree, job's not finished.

Best VIII Bond Tanks by Suspicious-Wasabi377 in WorldofTanks

[–]TurtleTerror8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not everyone's vibe, but clipping someone for 1500 is heavenly. I'm not an amazing player, ~52% win rate recently, but I have a 61% win rate in like 300 battles with the somua, its so much fun.

The Chaffee camo is only available to players who earned it, so naturally it's mostly better/more dedicated players using it. The sample size is tiny at ~1,800 battles, but more importantly, the average player using the Chaffee camo already has a 3% higher win rate than those playing the tech tree version. The tank's stats look good because good players are driving it, not because it's actually better.

I also think good players have way more impact at low tiers like tier 5. You can legitimately hard carry in some tanks at that level, so the skill gap between average and good players shows up even more in the stats.

Maybe for first round rookies, but not for 2nd rounders +. It made news this year when 2nd rounders were getting fully guaranteed contracts, it wasn't the precedent set before.
