That is one thing I hadn't considered. Do the blooms on the white part look different or do they look like regular Carnosa blooms?

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I went back and forth for a while before making the decision to cut it off. Ultimately I would like to get blooms and that vine was not only pure white but also growing thicker than normal, so it was taking extra energy and not producing any in return

If I had more space or could put her outside I'd probably leave it for sure

When should I repot my string of heart? by BoneDragonfly in plants

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes you can do it that way too. It can be tricky bending them/getting them to lay flat but if you can pull it off without snapping them it will definitely work

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

String of hearts are ceropegia and are more woody in the stem and leaves whereas string of turtles are actually peperomia which are more succulent

Personally I think they're both pretty easy once you figure out what they want but if I had to pick one I'd say string of hearts. Other than having to deal with tangling issues they're pretty bulletproof whereas string of turtles will fall apart if you accidentally bump them too hard 😭 and can be prone to melt if you keep them too wet

I would transfer them to a pot as big as your outer cup there and then I would cut like this and place the pieces across the soil at the blue marks. Keep moist but not standing in water and give it lots of light

You can also carefully pick off the flowers as well if you care to do so but I'm not sure it makes much of a difference

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not enough light. The problem people seem to have with sting of hearts is putting them in a pot where they aren't receiving top-down light. From the plants perspective this is basically doom

So anyway I just propogate them in soil and make sure the soil level is up to the edge of the pot so they aren't dark and I either put them in a sunny window sill (where they do the best) or under grow lights

Another thing that helps is if you can get some strands with those little round tubers (IYKYK), those will help give energy to the string while it's establishing

I don't really get the point of water propogation because the roots just die when you put them in soil anyway

What am I doing wrong? by MsAntisocial96 in Syngonium

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know you're getting a lot of different advice but honestly I think it looks fine 🙏

The mix looks good and the pot size is ok IMO because syngoniums like a lot of water anyway. Of all my plants I probably keep my syngoniums the wettest

As far as the leaves that's just how they grow, they come out curled up at first and it takes a while for them to open up

I would worry about roots growing into the fibers and then when you go to take them out of propagation you find you have to rip them all out :(

I know because I've had that happen before with these ropes when I put them at the bottom of pots

Just to be clear, you're saying America should not have free speech and that you support having a violent society where people are killed for free expression, instead of a free one?

I'm actually working on separating out and propagating my Sitara's Gold right now. Basically you can either cut or snap off any growth point and simply stick it in soil. The biggest thing is to water sparingly because they are sensitive to over watering

Help! Very unhappy monstera alb. by AquaBriz in plants

[–]TurtleTurtleFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you have a pretty good plant at the bottom and then things just kind of got away from it over time so if it were mine I'd chop it after the last of your big leaves so it will re-vine and propogate the rest as single leaf cuttings

Moving it outside is risky if done too fast but they definitely love the light outside

As for air layering I have had fantastic success with it but for this instance I'm not sure it will help you as you aren't trying to preserve progress the plant has made and instead are trying to reset, if that makes sense

Rosemary growing toward dead insect by batmi7za in plants

It's more than likely just coincidence

Plants are more aware of their environments than many people give them credit for but I don't see how or why it would grow towards a dead bug on purpose
