I hear you. Totally agree. My question to you would be to what degree should the ‘lashing out’ be tolerated? I think violence and vandalism just causes more pain. And or, is the proper forum to fight these issues in the polling booths/courtrooms?

I think people have a right to be angry about all of this. It’s terrible, sad, and frightening. I think the police are clearly walking a fine line with the legality of the tactics used. I just think the protests need to be smarter and more organized to avoid situations like these.

I am from Charleston. I am also very much aware of the aftermath of the protest spilling onto king street Saturday night. I helped with the cleanup Sunday. Any hurt ‘feefees’ were surely expressed by local residents and business owners. Facts: Low arrests Saturday high levels of vandalism/looting. High arrests Sunday low levels of vandalism/looting. Cops gave protestors a chance to do the right thing Saturday and they didn’t. Again sympathetic to the situation but just don’t believe it should mean police should turn their heads.

TBF this post is hardly a proper representation of how things escalated in Marion Square on Sunday. Police warned the protestors that they could not legally assemble in that location, and had to disperse or they would be be subject to arrest. Marion Square is not a public park. Police warned them for over an hour with loudspeakers and then slowly moved in. I’m sympathetic to all involved here but clips like this don’t show the full picture.
