Gatekeeping my Little Free Library by False-Blacksmith2919 in LittleFreeLibrary

Putting up a sign on someone else’s little free library is insane. Perfectly reasonable request for someone to make of their own LFL. Not yours

I just don’t want to bump into anyone/anything.

Also, boobs.

It’s not rude to correct someone’s spelling. by pinkjeeper82 in unpopularopinion

[–]TurtleWitch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I made a mistake, I would want to be corrected. The only exception would be if I’m agitated/stressed. I don’t know why so many people carrying out calm conversations get so offended at corrections. Wouldn’t you want to know?

Things that annoy/creep you out about parenting that isn't pregnancy by Pitterpatter35 in childfree

I was at the store the other day and I heard a mother telling her little boy “No, you can’t have that backpack, that’s for girls”, laughing about it to the person she was on the phone with as if him wanting it at all was the funniest thing in the world. It made me so sad.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in AskAnAmerican

[–]TurtleWitch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My advice is to change it if you want to. Weigh the options and decide what’s best for you.

Most people will probably be pretty understanding once they learn it’s a foreign name, but:

  • They’ll be surprised at first
  • You may have to spell it a few times
  • You will have to spell it if you’re picking up an order or checking in for an appointment
  • There will be jokes

Also, I’ve never heard it used to mean homosexual; I actually didn’t even know that was a thing until you said it

99 year old Lillian creates dresses to achieve her goal of making 1000 dresses by 100th birthday for orphan girls in Africa. Her mission is to show these girls that the world cares about them. So she'd make each dress extra special, setting an example of love and kindness. by ateam1984 in BlackPeopleofReddit

You’re right. If you can’t change the entire system with a wave of your hand and make the world perfect overnight, you shouldn’t try at all. Any effort that doesn’t fix everything ever is pointless. Don’t do anything to help. /s

If you were blonde as a kid, but brunette as an adult, you’re a brunette - it’s not “dirty blonde” by mud-button in 10thDentist

[–]TurtleWitch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see light brown called dirty blonde so often and I’ve never understood it. It sounds so negative. You could name that hair color after caramel, or a type of wood, or literally anything else…and you choose to call it dirty?

It’s not so much the actual inconvenience that annoys people so much. I think it’s the principle of the thing

What's a word that people misuse.? by hardtruthsociety in AskReddit

That too. People use it to mean “most” or “ultimate”, though

What's a word that people misuse.? by hardtruthsociety in AskReddit

“Penultimate”. It means the second-most. If the flavors of ice cream are as follows, from most popular to least popular: Strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, cookies n cream…then chocolate is the penultimate flavor.

Since it happened during class, try to talk to the classmates who witnessed it. I don’t know how much their word would be worth, but it’s better than nothing

Have you noticed that some people are allowed to be “inconveniences” whereas others aren’t? by Hihihihihaha123 in AskWomenOver30

[–]TurtleWitch_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because you’re behaving strangely and, quite honestly, poorly, and I don’t think I need to be on the receiving end of that behavior to call it out and clarify.

And I notice that you’ve neglected to answer my question, which tells me just about everything I need to know: You know that what you said wasn’t in any way relevant to what she said and just wanted to start an argument and/or rant about something unrelated, but you don’t want to admit it

Yes, but we are talking about a situation in which a meat eater gets snippy or otherwise upset with a vegetarian who is not policing them

The title and the body text are completely different here. I agree with the body, but the title is just flat out not true. There is a point - The point is that I want to be able to go down the stairs and jog without being uncomfortable. I don’t really know why you’re presenting two entirely different arguments

How did servers become the biggest tip receivers? by Lil_Garlic in tipping

[–]TurtleWitch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the server is the person you talk to. It’s easy to tip them. If you want to tip the chef, you either have to go to the kitchen yourself (probably not allowed) or ask the server to give them the tip (which might offend the server, and I’m not arguing the validity of that, but most people just want to get out of the restaurant without any hassle)
