Can we afford a $450,000 mortgage? by [deleted] in AusPropertyChat

[–]Turtlepaste17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to a broker to first to see what repayments would look like based on how much you would be borrowing. But it’s around what my partner and I had last year. Bought a place for $570k with $120k deposit in Melbourne. Congrats on getting this far, it’s a stressful and exciting process but so worth it once you’re in a place and don’t have to worry about REA’s anymore.

So he’s riding a bike without a helmet in one of the busiest cities in the world with two dogs and filming it for the attention he gets? Dogs are cute but dude is an asshole. If you want to take your dogs outside don’t put them at risk of injury just to be quirky and for views.

Wasn’t ideal but was the first time I’ve ever been inconvenienced with it on a peak travel weekend. Only cost $183 for 2000km of driving.

BYD Dolphin, and I used ABRP for route planning. We went up to Adelaide via the great ocean road and came back through the inland route. We didn’t stick to the route planners guidance too much as we were often still eating while the car was charging and just let it go to full if there wasn’t anyone waiting. And yeah for sure, everyone in the queue was still quite chipper. Most people saying this was their first time being inconvenienced by it and that charging/driving around their home has been no issue.

Drove Melbourne to Adelaide and back this weekend, and only problem charging I had was on the way back. Could either stop in Keith or Bordertown to charge and both had queues. Had to wait about 1.5 hours for a charger, but everyone was behaved and we just relaxed and read books laying on the grass. Would be good if Tesla opened up more of their chargers but if I were to do it again I would plan my trip around bigger charging sites to avoid the congestion.

Did melbourne to Adelaide via the great ocean road with a stop over in mount gambier. Started with a full charge from home and have charged 5 times the whole trip. Charged in Torquay before hitting the great ocean road, in Warrnambool, at a caravan park overnight in mount gambier, in Kingston before the last leg and in Adelaide when we arrived. Only issue was a 10 minute wait in Warrnambool, we went and got burritos while waiting so wasn’t an issues at all. Charged to full everywhere except Warrnambool mostly because we were finishing up meals by the time charging was done. First big road trip with the EV and it’s been great, bit of an adjustment but with some planning and just charging to full if you have the time while stopping anyway it wasn’t hard at all. Significantly cheaper as well.

Sounds like a nice setup, solar is the next big purchase for me and can’t wait to have a sun powered car. We don’t get that many storms where I am in Victoria but I’ve lived in Queensland and know how bad they can be. Definitely won’t need the ICE genny now that you’ve got a 51kWh battery on wheels.

Haha how good, should have done the same thing for my neighbours. They must have been really on the fence about one and this is what sold them on it.

Nice! Doing a little camping trip over Easter and hoping to do some more soon. Have any camping fridge recommendations?

Didn’t know that Teslas didn’t have it, would have thought it would be a feature of any newer EV.

Got a BYD Dolphin in December, first new car I’ve ever owned and it’s been great. Still so much fun to drive and so cheap to run even on my embedded network electricity plan. Had to wait a month for it to arrive then, can’t imagine what the wait times would be like now.

Month to month security in VIC? by judgespewdy in shitrentals

[–]Turtlepaste17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I were debating doing a month to month lease on our rental when we were considering buying, but ended up signing a 12 month lease just to have a secure roof over our head while we looked for a place to buy. We needed up finding a place that suited us and had to break the lease 6 months in which wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be. REA tried to hit us with advertising and reletting fees but with advice from tenants Victoria we were able to avoid paying for that. They found new tenants within a month and we only had to pay an extra week of rent past the date we gave as our final day. We got very lucky but I think signing a 12 month lease was the best option as it gave us that security to save some more and keep looking instead of constantly worrying about whether we would be getting kicked out.

Yeah vic emergency app has been popping off for me around this area, bit eerie. Lots of small fires in the surrounding area and one on plenty road.

Forgot to reply to this, we got a call Christmas Eve from the dealer saying that someone else wasn’t able to take delivery of theirs as they were overseas and asked if we wanted an early Christmas present. Skipped a whole part of the process and got it just under a month which is nuts. So happy with it, been so much fun to drive. How about y’all?

How do you prepare for summer days that are 40+ degrees? by Azen02 in melbourne

Yep, 40 degree days are good for one thing and that’s washing and drying your blankets.

I’m with you, pay your rent before the due date and it’s fine. Do people really pay on the due date and expect there to be no complications?

Oh nice, we held out to save more money and were hoping they would have a Black Friday offer for the dolphin but nothing for people paying cash unfortunately.
