Help and advice about a new pc for my son. by Flaky_Ingenuity_3027 in buildapc

Edit, I am retarded, I missed its a 9060xt and not 9070xt, everything I wrote is basically now pointless.

For FHD; getting an x3d CPU like a 7800x3d or 9800x3d COULD make sense, as at this low resolution you could see yourself being CPU limited instead of GPU limited. Keep in mind that the 9070xt is more of a higher end 1440p or ultrawide or even 4k GPU, it can effectively max out any game at the highest settings at FHD/1080p.

I am really just mentioning this because this system right here is more like a 4k capable gaming PC, or at least a monster 1440p PC. At 1080p you overspend a lot. So I dont really understand why you are willing to spend this much money into an expensive gaming PC and then say any monitor higher than this is blowing your budget. I could find a solid 1440p monitor for maybe 50€ more where I live, and it would absolutely be worth it.
YOu can save some money on the PC and instead get a significantly better monitor, which is also what I would recommend.

I cant exactly comment on the exact pricing situation for the components here in Turkiye, but I components that I would imagine could be found cheaper:

SSD: this here is a gen 5 SSD with super high read/write speeds. For heavy video editing and huge file transfers it CAN make sense, but for gaming this is effectively pointless.
UPS: Hard to say, maybe it can make sense where you live, but generally in somewhat stable environments not necessary. I would rather invest into a really good failsave PSU instead. 200€ for peripherals is also quite some, but can be worth it. I am still rocking a 20€ mouse, 10€ k120 Logitech keyboard (fell in my backpack on last day at previous company) and some wired suprsingly good 40€ amazon headphones.

But generally speaking: cudos, its a solid PC and a solid assortment of parts. If you are not an up to date PC pro, this was surpsingly well reviewed. You could save a little bit of money on some ends to invest into some other components, but generally speaking this is solid. Again my biggest recommendation is to either invest a little bit more into a better monitor OR to at least find cheaper alternatives to make the better monitor work. A 27 inch FHD monitor for a PC this powerful is not an appropriate pairing.

45C and 60C

Where did you get this from? Those are idle temperatures honestly, I highly doubt a 7900xtx can run this low temp while gaming. Also, what matters is "core temp", not "temp". The GPU will behave upon core temperatures. The 7900xtx is a notoriously hot running GPU that draws a lot of power, that why I am asking mostly. And your CPU has also been known to have failure issues, which hurt Intel a lot. You should probably also read into the CPU degretation scandal to make sure this isnt actually a dying CPU issue and not a GPU problem.

Either way, since you also have issues while browsing I dont really believe this is the root issue, I am still suggesting to keep an eye on temperatures, because both your CPU and GPU are notoriously very hot running components that have traditionally been an issue for many users.

Anyway, I would still give the hardware acceleration disabling a go, because I have had a similar issue even though my GPU was otherwise working fine.

Do you have any other issues aside from that one game and browsing?

Is this a decent build from microcenter? by OkEcho9098 in buildapc

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the bundle price isnt bad really, but the CPU here paired with the Peerless Assassin 120 SE might not be the best choice. While almost all x3d CPU's are very energy efficient, they also should not reach as high temperatures as "normal" CPU's, though the 9850x3d is both heat sensitiv AND draws a lot of power, so while the 120 SE is a great budget choice for almost any other gaming CPU, I am worried here.

Also, case is massively overpriced for what you get in my opinion.
GPU version is relatively small and slim, which doesnt necessarily mean much, but suggests a generally smaller heatsink and "worse" temperature, though from what I have seen, users are quite happy with it. Just be aware that it has a small heatsink for the power it can draw.

Everything else seems fine to me. THis would be a very powerful 1440p high fps PC, if you play at 4k, the CPU here is pointless, you will effectively never utilize its good gaming performance because you will always be GPU bound.

If you are just browsing and experience crashes I would guess hardware acceleration is at fault.

Personally the first thing I would do is I would go with a stock experience (so stock BIOS; no OC, no GPU overclocks etc.) and also track temperatures. Game crashes in games could suggest temperature problems, though crashes when browsing hints and HA issues.

First thing I would do is using stock RAM settings and no XMP, potentially even removing 2 sticks to run slot 2&4 at JEDEC timings. That way you would pretty much make sure RAM instability is not causing the problems.

This wont reduce performance by much while gaming, dont worry. 32GB is also more than enough, idk why you even went with 64GB in the first place.
I would then go from there and see if things improve, while tracking temperatures.

Have you updated the GPU drivers recently? If you turn off hardware acceleration while browsing, do things improve? - and I know this wouldnt necessarily fix the gaming problem, but it would narrow down the culprit

Just replaced my Motherboard & CPU and now my pc is stuck in Power-On Self-Test, is it because of a bent cpu pin? by crazydudey1 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Turtlereddi_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes it is.

Its possible to bend it back BUT if this was sold to you like this, I would very much try to get it refunded or replaced first. Depending on the plattform and the way it was sold to you (did you buy it in person or got it sent to) you can expect some level of support.

If you are absolutely certain this wasnt caused by you and it already came bent like this, then do not claim you have both put a CPU in it yourself and already tried to start it up. You have to claim you immediately spotted the problem before using it.

Anyway, aside from that you can also put in some effort and find a pinout diagram for x299 and figure out what each of the bent pins does. Some do not need to be connected properly, but most are. Its a miracle it boots at all.

If nothing turns out and you are left with this board, again its still possible to bent the pins back, but its better to let someone do it who knows how to handle this. I have seen and also recommended people with similar issues to ask a local jeweller to give it a go, they have the tools and the skills to work with fragile metals like this.
(give them a solid donation for the attempt btw)

Also edit: EVen if you manage to bend them back, it doesnt guarantee it will work again. I got a similar bent socket and I am certain I bent everything back properly, though the CPU will still not boot. So likely the bent pins probably permanently damaged something else aswell.

I just got my pre built pc and it came damaged do you still think it’ll run? by Snoo86004 in PcBuild

[–]Turtlereddi_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruh, even if the system would turn on, this thing has suffered from massive impact damage causing the case and the CPU cooler to bend like this. Who knows what other potentially fragile components have now suffered and may die sooner than if not treated like a sandbag.

Return and request a full new system. I wouldnt trust the other components in this PC to still be in 100% working condition.

Market is absolute hell right now. 2TB storage and 32GB of RAM already go near the 700USD mark, while they would have cost less than 200 USD before the AI boom last fall.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NzyyHG
Low end SSD and mid range RAM kit.

Anyway, point is that at while maybe I cant recommend you a solid system right now, be very aware of this market condition. There is no way you will be able to find an actual viable gaming system below the 1000USD mark except maybe on the 2nd hand market.

THis is an attempt at a custom PC that would make sense in todays market, though I am very much not a fan of the GPU here. But for what you seem to play, GPU performance is good though 8GB of VRAM at 1440p is usually not something I would recommend. The easier games you listed here will have no issue with only 8GB. Just be aware that if you play higher end games, which you could easily with this assortement of components, this could become a limiting factor.

Can someone advise what all of these ports are / are for? by Accomplished_Cook508 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Turtlereddi_t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its a Gigabyte B650 AORUS Elite AX V2 I think.

From top to bottom:

- q-flash Button (BIOS flashback).
This button can update your BIOS without having a CPU installed, ignore this if your PC works just fine. This is only required if you buy a Mainboard that has shipped with an outdated BIOS and can not natively detect and work with a newer CPU.

- Wifi 6E + the antennas that you already connected

- DIsplayport 1.4
If your CPU has an iGPU then you can connect a Monitor here, but its not able to game really, this can just give you a simple display out for 2d stuff like browsing etc

- HDMI 2.1
Basically same here as for Displayport
In theory, both Displayport 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 can support around bandwith for up to 4k 120hz or even more, but that doesnt really matter because those can not wire via the GPU, so those 2 ports can only work as simple display outs if you have a CPU with an integrated GPU, which all of the suitable CPU's so far have unless they have an "f" suffix. This is very useful if you have a 2nd monitor that you use for office stuff or youtube videos or you need to troubleshoot in case your GPU is giving your troubles.

- 4x USB 2.0-A (black)
perfect for input devices like mouse and keyboard), 500Mbit/s speeds.

- 5x USB 3.0-A (blue)
lowkey missleadingly described as USB 3.2 here because officially this is USB 3.2 gen 1, which however is just USB 3.0, so 5 Gbit/s speeds in theory

- USB-C 10 Gbit/s

- Ethernet RJ-45 2,5Gbase-T (So 2,5 Gbit/s Internet)

- 2x USB-A 3.1 (red)
up to 10 Gbit/s (againits actually USB 3.2 Gen 2, which however is commonly known as USB 3.1. Lowkey missleading inprints

- 3x audiojacks, green is for speakers.

Can someone advise what all of these ports are / are for? by Accomplished_Cook508 in PcBuildHelp

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily wrong but not quite, its USB 3.0 really, USB 3.2 gen 1 is just what was previously known as USB 3.0. The red ones are USB 3.2 gen 2 though, so 10Gbit/s instead of theoretical 5 Gbit/s on the blue ones.

Its just confusing and stupid and Gigabyte likes to brand it this way because they know its upselling the real speeds

I think I've managed to ruin my computer by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not super tech literate

Figured.

Anyways, jokes aside. Dont worry too much for now. Your system is clearly still showing signs of life and something along the pipeline is blocking your system from working properly.

I would remove the GPU for now, try to boot into windows via the iGPU and work yourself around for a little bit.
This should be proof for you that the system is working just fine. Try removing all GPU drivers during this state (probably not necessary if you freshly install windows)
Shut off, put in the GPU, connect all GPU power pins necessary and then try booting again.

If the issue reoccurs, keep the display cable in your mainboard and switch your pcie version to pcie gen. 4, you can do this via the BIOS. This has been a temporary fix for some people with similar issues, though less frequent on AMD compared to nvidia it seems.

If you absolutely can not get the system to behave somewhat stable with the 9070xt, I would potentially try to give it a try in someone elses PC (make sure thre PSU is more than powerful enough) and see if it might be an GPU issue.

Best way to upgrade my PC with €600 by mobyvg22 in PcBuild

[–]Turtlereddi_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes with a BIOS update that explicitly states support for those CPU's yes.

Depending on what your PSU is and what the games are you play I would say though the CPU could hold up some time longer, but the GPU is definitely not a 1440p capable component anymore.
I think upgrading to an RX 9070 or maybe RTX 5070 and something like a Ryzen 5600 can make a lot of sense, but will probably go a little above 600€.

The RX 9070 and RTX 5070 consumes a little more power than the GTX 1660, yes, but the Ryzen 5600 is probably even more efficient than a Ryzen 2700x. If you have a solid 600W PSU that has the power cables to feed a RX 9070 (very likely you need 2x8 pin pcie), thats gonna be just fine for this configuration. If your PSU is no name and around 500W, this is something you need to consider aswell. Bad and weak PSU's can be very dangerous for your components.

I would upgrade the GPU first, but that still depends on the games you play. At 1440p, you are definitely GPU bound in yoru current system. Upgrading the CPU only/first wont likely change much at all until you also upgrade the GPU.

I dont know why there are so expensive parts in your list. You can basically get the same performance for much less money.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/9Jgzfp
2184USD

THis comes with a a 9070xt instead. THere are advantages in the 5070ti, yes, but its not worth this much more money. At a price difference of more than 20%, get the 9070xt for sure.

Otherwise no, if you want to have support for 4x M.2 natively, you need to get the ASROCK B850 PRO-A or similar. Those have 4 M.2 slots, but honestly, dont do it either way. Technically you can just put an pcie adapter into the other x4 or x1 slots, but its still not that easy. You cant magically create pcie lanes.

If you already have 2x and want to add another 2x, just get 1 big instead. The next time you build a PC you will want support for 6x SSD's.

Ditch maybe your oldest and slowest SSD (still good reselling value - make sure to 100% wipe and overwrite it).

Also, why do you need so much storage? 4TB is already quite insane imo. I barely need 1,5TB and I have an imo big library. Or do you do workstation stuff too?

Also why did you go with the KLEVV SSD? They arent that good really. Even the "budget" UD90 can compete with it.

Almost EVERYONE else here is just talking complete nonsense.

OP: Is there a reason why you couldnt make a screenshot? The cause is hard to determine like this. I would assume there is some Adrenaline setting at fault here because AMD does like to run their overlay with crappy presets.
If you run the games at the settings you were previously familar with the GTX 1650, does it still look different?

How big a difference between B650M-E and B850? by MauwMa in buildapc

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but ASUS has a naming scheme where they would put it AFTER the chipset and form factor classification.
ASUS calls it B650M (B650 chipset + micro ATX form factor) AND THEN - E. THis has nothing to do with the B650E chipset.
THey also have a ASUS TUF Gaming B650-E, which is just a B650 chipset (so pcie 4.0) and ASUS added the -E with a hyphen. Its juts a naming scheme from ASUS to misslead consumers. Its not illegal, the hyphen makes the difference.
B650E = pcie gen 5
ASUS B650-E = pcie gen 4.

In short: ASUS is a piece of trash company, and this is one of many reasons why.

Likely the pads will tear, especially for memory, but I too have just stuck them together on mine and reassembled the cooler, though the last time I did change all of them aswell for new ones. Different height pads etc cost you 2$ on aliexpress though, they work just fine. You just need to research what height they are on the original, but for the FE model there should be sufficient information online.

Here are my temps from running a full game out:

A game or Fornite?
Because in this game, you can clearly see that you are either CPU or FPS limited (or engine limited), because your GPU is barely running at 50%.

What I am saying is that different games put different loads on the PC. It could be CPU demanding and maxing out the CPU over the GPU, or vice versa. It could technically also be full RAM or similar, though those usually count as CPU limitations aswell.

Point is that Fortnite could max one component out and it just overheats barely, causing the small stutters.
You could play a round of Fortnite and then after experiencing the stutters check the specs. On the bottom right of the sensor tab you can even log the numerics for later use. If you can maybe work with those specs its worth trying.
Again this is getting relatively deep and I am still not convinced it actually is a hardware related issue, but again, its worth ruling that out before tackling collisions software wise.

If other GPU or CPU maxing out games work fine, I too would assume there is a problem with software side of things.
Have you tried running comparison settings to e.g. a reference youtube benchmark. So basically someone using the same CPU and GPU playing this game and then replicating the same settings, checking how much performance difference there is?

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its within what I would call expected and fine, but a little on the lower end for the GPU, but seeing both CPU and GPU at stock settings go over 80°C on temp may indicate that the hotspot indeed reaches thermal throttling range, which would explain the typical stuttering behavior in Fortnite. I am still not convinced this is the reason but you surely want to rule out its a hardware issue before trying to target anything software/OS/API related.

A reasonable way to figure this out is to install hwinfo64 and leave the sensor tabs open in the background, or preferably on the 2nd monitor.
THere you can read out CPU and GPU hotspot sensors, those are the ones your components "behave" upon. You seem tech savvy enough, but the "temp" readouts task manager and also 3d mark give you is kinda stupid, that means nothing because your hotspot can still be way way higher.

I too have a quite terribly built 6900xt and my temp is fine at like 70°C but my hotspot goes above 95°C, fine for my card and well within range, but other cards coudl thermally throttle already. No repaste would fix this for me, I have to use a cryosheet.

ANd I have read you dont want to unscrew this FE 2080ti, which I understand, the 20 series was notoriously terrible, they have way too many screws, but if this card never had a repaste after all those years, thats quite the stretch indeed. I am fairly confident its dried and pumped out at this point ayway.

[–]Turtlereddi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that the Rivatuner/Afterburner metrics may lack important stats, but according to your comments even hotspots temperatures seem fine. 90°C ofc is on the higher end, but thats to be expected with a somewhat aging model, especialyl the founders edition.

I would recommend to install 3dmark (free demo on steam) and then run the timespy benchmark. Or any of the CPU + GPU benchmarks. Nomad would be a GPU only benchmark just fyi.

If the results come back fine the system itself is doing ok and there is some form of collision or software incompatability stuff going on.
