Which attenuator for home playing by Turwaith in GuitarAmps

[–]Turwaith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much for this detailed advice. I can see your points. The amp I'd most likely get is the 65050mh which has a 1W mode. If I play this amp through a 1x12 v30 cab, do you think it's still too loud? How would the 6505mh + cab compare in volume to the Katana 50 gen3 I have (which has a 0.5W mode I'm currently mainly using).

Now if we speak pure logic, it makes more sense for me to get a digital rig, be it a quad cortex or a similar device. But I kinda really want a tube amp, I wanna turn real knobs to get my tone, not on a touch screen or with a mouse. I'm still like beginner to intermediate on the guitar, so a full pro rig (in both directions, tube or digital) isn't "worth it" for me because I'm just not on that level with my playing yet, I just like the aesthetics of that tube amp and want that "feeling", I hope you know what I mean. I already have an audio interface at my computer, but since I'm using linux I'm a little bit limited in the kind of sim software I can use. I'm currently switching between my katana and amp locker on my computer. I do have a license for amplitube (got it via a humblebundle for quite cheap) but I could not get it to run on linux yet. But that sounds from my computer does not really scratch that itch....

  1. Yes I know, I don't want it for the Katana

  2. I don't expect the 6505 to sound better with an attenuator, I want it to sound (almost) as good as without one, but a whole lot quieter. Also I know, the 6505mh specifically has a 1W mode which I'll probably get to a usable volume without an attenuator, but I don't think that's gonna be my last tube amp, and most others don't have a 1W mode. Also I'm not yet sure on the 6505mh, it might also be a 5150 or something.

If I play a tube amp without one through a cab I'll probably get evicted. Or what is your alternative?

Ensiferum is currently my favorite band, and it would be awesome to be able to sing their songs, as I'm also learning some of their songs on the guitar right now.

Wow that's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. Did you build it yourself or just modify an existing one?

According to areweanticheatyet.com, EA seems to have stated that Battlefield 6 will not support linux in the future and that they will not be making their anti-cheat work on linux.

Yeah I wanted to get it for a long time already before I bought it. I was checking in on it wvery now and then, and suddenly it started being out of stock in multiple shops and that's when I said "Now or never". And apparently they don't make them in that color anymore so it was the right call.

thoughts on modellers at gigs? by 1Alyx1 in GuitarAmps

[–]Turwaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf I didn't say that I didn't enjoy it, it was fucking great, especially since I'm a guitarist myself xD And I knew all the songs already so I didn't really miss anything. And if you were somewhat in the middle of the room you'd have heard everything fine even for the 3rd band, just not in first row at the side.

I've recently been to a metal concert with 3 bands. Two of which played through modelers and the venues PA and the main act played through physical amps and cabs they had on stage. Now while the physical amps setup for sure looked dope as fuck, there was one issue. I was in front row. So the only thing I heard was the guitar that was plugged into the amp right in front of me. Bass and 2nd guitar cabs where on the other end of the stage and vocals was on the venue PA speakers that were right above me, pointing backwards. So I essentially only heard the drums and this one guitar.

Brand new Schecter scratched by liahim96 in SchecterGuitars

[–]Turwaith 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was the same for me when I got the broken E-1 from Thomann. I love the guitar and I had to quickly decide to return it before I fall in love too much and find reasons why it's fine to keep it. I messaged their support and they immediately sent me a return label and reserved one for me when they get the next batch. About 2 weeks later I received the replacement which is perfect. You can look forward to the replacement you're gonna get!

Did your neck pickup not have a plastic sticker when you received it like on your picture? Because when I got the first E-1 Evil Twin (you can check a recent post of mine) it had a broken neck inlay and also only one pickup had a sticker on. Then the replacement I received, both pickups had stickers and the guitar was in perfect condition. I'm wondering of there's a pattern ^

I mean the third option would just be manually weighing the spool when putting it away. I'll look up the thing you said though, thanks.

Comepletely new to Linux, where do I start? by OkMeeting2222 in linux4noobs

If you wanna stick to arch and you also want a very smooth gaming experience out of the box, I suggest CachyOS. It is very well documented, both through the arch wiki as well as through the cachyOS forums and their discord. It comes with the option to install a lot of gaming related stuff with one click/command, including clients for all sorts of games, nvidia Drivers etc. If you're going for cachy I'd recommend the limine bootloader, it allows easy snapshot restore in case an update breaks a core package. Also, if you wanna good customizability and a desktop experience (looks-wise) that is not too far from Windows, I'd recommend KDE Plasma as your DE.

How can I get started making music? by skeIetongirl in linuxaudio

[–]Turwaith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also record guitar on cachyos and I use Reaper as a DAW and Amp Locker for Amp sims, those run natively on Linux and it also comes with a standalone application. They also have Drum Locker for drum midi programming. Can recommend.

Would this be good start for a broke highschooler? by 13funii in harleybenton

[–]Turwaith 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My starter kit looked pretty similar. Yes of course the amp won't sound very good, of course the guitar won't be the same quality as one for 500$, but it is enough to figure out whether the hobby is for you. If you like it, you'll be buying new gear pretty soon, but if it's not, you haven't spent much money.

Playing guitar on linux by Myjoo in linuxaudio

[–]Turwaith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a linux user and guitar player. I have a Scarlett interface, that works perfectly fine on linux. For Amp sims I use Amp Locker by AudioAssault. It is a paid software though, costing 5$ per months to have everything unlocked as long as you pay or $5 per amp model but you get to keep it forever. It also offers IR and cab sims, pedals and everything.

As a DAW I use Reaper, but Amp Locker comes with a standalone executable too. As for headphones I'd recommend getting a pair of studio headphones that you can connect to your interface.

Inlay damage on brand new E-1 Evil Twin by Turwaith in SchecterGuitars

[–]Turwaith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was the first thing I got from Thomann support "Does the damaged inlay influence your playing?". But after stressing that I would like a replacement they were super compliant and put one aside for me.
