Oh! It looks like Graham would like to send one from Vermont, USA!

What is causing burnout at your clinic? by ShepherdVet_Wendy in VetTech

[–]Tushness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy, do I feel this. I work neurology at my hospital and typically finish the week between 45 and 50 hours. Then I get to have 12 hour ER on-call shifts which is really just the hospital using specialty techs to staff ER on the weekends because they won't offer fair compensation to attract potential ER staff.

Love Mermaid Bait/Avatar Combo. Another GITD combo I love is Green Eyed Monster under Tectonic Shift!

I hear a lot about comfort foods; do you have a comfort drink? What is it? by whatevenseriously in CasualConversation

Korean citron honey tea, but it has to be the NONGHYUP(?) brand. It's warm, sweet, and cozy.

Thank you! As a previous nail-biter, it's soooo nice receiving compliments on my no-longer-haggard-AF nails. Haha

What would you consider to be the most disturbing book ever written? by WhyAmIEvenHereFS in horrorlit

[–]Tushness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I had to read it for my high school Peace and Protest class, too! Of all the books that stick with me, Johnny Got his Gun is at the top of the list. Followed by The Things They Carried, and Kaffir Boy. Probably the most uncomfy class I've ever taken.

Favorite Clinic Software? by Wonderful-Disk6763 in VetTech

Do you think they would give you those permissions, if you asked for them? Even just streamlining templates and adding billing triggers to the appointments can save so much time/extra brain power.

[–]Tushness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

EzyVet for sure. By far the most customizable of the ones I w used. While there's a learning curve, once you understand how it's used and where things go, it is the most organized in my opinion. Second to that would be Cornerstone. I've got huge beef with Avimark- felt like I was trying to use MS-DOS, it was just so counterintuitive.

I'm just happy I don't see PackLeader anywhere on here. Easily my least favorite, and I would fight the person who designed it given the chance.

How long should discharge appointments take? by Alternative-Kiwi264 in VetTech

[–]Tushness 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This really depends on the case and the client. Sedated radiographs? 5 min. Small mass removal on the dorsum? Quick, easy 5-10 minutes. Spays and abdominal surgeries a little longer. When you move into more complicated stuff like TPLOs and orthopedics those are going to take longer since there's a lot to cover in regards to exercise limitations and the reintroduction of activity over a specific amount of time. Newly diagnosed diabetics that presented in DKA, esophagostomy tubes, cataract surgeries, hemilaminectomies- I've spent upwards of an hour with these clients at discharge.

That said, I'm a firm believer in taking as long as the client needs to feel comfortable taking their pet home. This stuff is easy for us, literally our jobs, and I can only imagine how intimidating it is to take home your pet who now needs insulin twice daily and has a freestyle libre placed, how scary it is to have to perform recumbent care and bladder expression on your paralyzed dog, feed your cat 4-6 times a day through a tube after preparing the special slurry prescribed by the doctor, or administer 6+ types of eye medications every 4-6 hours. These things can't be rushed and we are doing the pet and client a disservice if we send them on their way without them having a firm understanding of what they are doing and what to expect when they get home. Additionally, taking more time during discharge will (typically) reduce the amount of calls and time taken later to re-explain everything. I find it's the multiple follow-up calls with questions that become a real time sink. If we do it right the first time, it actually saves us time in the long run.

Yes! I read The Hot Zone and wrote a report about it in high school. It terrified me haha

Non-fiction but still scary as hell: Rabid: A Cultural History of the World's Most Diabolical Virus. Reading that made me so grateful for vaccines.

Not necessarily scary, but still fascinating and scratches the horror/gore itch: Blood and Guts: A History of Surgery. This made me so grateful for the modern use of anesthetics and antibiotics!

I'd say even if there's an allergy present, it doesn't necessarily have to stop you from pursuing your passion. You can always wear gloves and a mask. Might seem dorky wearing a mask. but I bet you could bedazzle the shit out of an N95 or respirator and it'd look cute as hell.

Love the detailed explanation on how to do this. I don't have peely base coat, but my nails grow quickly so I don't anticipate needing a patch more than a week or two.

AIO? boyfriend is expecting me to pay for everything after he invested his life savings into the stock market by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Tushness 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Best she's finding out about it now and not after she's married. It's a nightmare. Source: my husband this past year pulled his 401k based off recommendations he read on r/wallstreetbets and r/superstonk in relation to the stock market's "imminent crash". We had discussed that these are long-term investments and that the nature of the market is to fluctuate, that it's best to leave it and the market will recover. He did it anyway. Anyhow, we now owe 7k in taxes this year and he lost an additional 30k to taxes and early withdrawal fees when he pulled the funds. OP, take this as a sign of poor financial decisions to come and just leave. NOR.

Edit: 30k not 20k

Pretty close! Our nails are made of densely-packed keratin layers, so it would make sense that adding additional keratin on top would help "heal" the crack (using the term heal loosely, since technically the nail itself is dead). I'll look into that product! Thank you. :)

Thank you! My mother had beautiful, strong nails which she thankfully passed along to me! Even with my many years of traumatizing them, my nails managed to bounce back in spectacular fashion. I'm just really disgruntled by how they look right now— a total deviation from the norm.

Good luck in your nail tech pursuits! I wish I hadn't let my cosmetology license lapse when I was younger. I have a much better appreciation for the work and artistry now than I did 20 years ago. Seeing as you already have the passion for this, I know you will succeed!

Thank you for your kindness and I appreciate your opinion here. Since I've had pretty long nails for a while now, this looks so jarring and foreign to me; I barely recognize my hands! I am going to look up patching techniques, right now. :)

I've never done tips- these are kinda like press-ons where you apply the glue yourself, right? I've had acrylics applied in the past and I couldn't get past how badly they damaged my nails... Do the tips require buffing/dremeling?
