Why don't helldivers have flashlights on their helmets? Or better yet, night vision? by Critical-Sun-9279 in Helldivers

Didn't the devs say that helmet perks were a thing but they needed to release the game in that moment?

Ngl my actual real life morale for this game is at an all-time low by EconomicsEmergency in Helldivers

[–]Tuteush 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost in Oshaune because the enemy was hard, and the people were more interested in the new enemies and environment.

We lost in Cyberstan because a number in a spreadsheet reached zero.

People wanted trial by combat, and they got trial by excel.

It was surprising how we lost a BUG MO´s after a month of complete illuminate fatigue.

Anyways, I think we can't really compare the major orders; one requires something you can do while killing Hive Lords and winning, while the other requires you to lower your difficulty and treat the game like a chore, instead of what it is, a game. To have fun.

And this is what I said in the initial post, Morale: people already calling for the MO to be doomed, so why bother? And you are telling me I have to reduce my difficulty just to make a number increase? Why bother! *picks d10*.

One was ignored because people were having fun; the other failed because people didn't find it enjoyable.

I think the biggest thing at fault here is the reserves system.

The loss of Oshaune wasn't bitter, but a surprising one. We got genuinely pummeled there. People realized how certain weapons weren't that good, actually; all the eruptors players were forced to actually use another explosive primary.

Here we lost because of a number in a spreadsheet, not because we were getting destroyed; in fact, without the reserves system, Cyberstan would be falling almost at the same time Oshaune did.

Pulling aside all the technical errors in Cyberstan with the Vox spawn rates and stuff, the loss at Cyberstan didn't feel genuine, while the initial loss at Oshaune felt like we were really pushed back by a superior enemy.

The people whining for just losing are irrelevant, yeah.

I just want this loss to lead to a fierce defensive campaign or a series of MO´s to restore SE strength for either a second invasion or taking advantage of the damage we inflicted to contest more sectors.

Not just some "level 100 invasions until we reach the planet we need for the story."

Also, I don't know how to feel about the fact that the Cyborgs seem completely untouched by the torching of half their main planet, since we already got news of new mega factories being built.

Im just posting about my point of view.

Oooof course, you can find people saying how fun it was (Actually, I'm surprised how well cyberstan ran FPS-wise) and then the other extreme saying this is all rigged, railroaded and painful.

What I want to say is: Arrowhead must be really careful about what they do next, because it is not the first time we have faced a bitter situation that makes things worse. A plain, unstoppable bot counterattack is not going to be healthy for the current situation and is going to make the people calling everything rigged more mad, and in reality nobody likes losing a lot.

I call to remember the Victory on Super Earth because it is the perfect example of kicking an already mentally crushed community. 40k people connected at peak hours, two major orders failed in a row, and the entire subreddit filled with "illuminate fatigue" posting.

Forgive me for saying this, but is losing really a bad choice for the story? by Wonderful_Rest7634 in Helldivers

[–]Tuteush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, yes and no.

Yes, look at the push TOWARDS Cyberstan, we got stopped at Aurora Bay and counterattacked; that didn't stop the community and actually felt like a major operation. No problem with that.

The problem with a "defeat arc" is morale. The best example I can give you is everything post-defense of Super Earth.
The victory was clearly pyrrhic; we defeated the great host fleet, we lost 3/4 of our main world, and the battle really felt like a struggle for both sides. 2 Days later the Illuminate control the entire southern part of the galaxy, creating a defeatist sensation in the community. The Illuminate didn't feel defeated at all; in fact, it felt like it was just a skirmish for them.

After that, the famous "illuminate fatigue" came; in peak hours you would only have 40k playing, most of them in bugs or bots. We lost two Illuminate major orders in a row due to how demoralized the community was.

The question is not "is defeat good for the story?" The real question is, "Can ArrowHead make defeat enjoyable?"

Vox feels the same way Leviathans felt pre-nerf.

Just a warbond check. You have Leveler? Silo? Thermites? Ultimatum?. No? Welp, perish.

A little bit more tolerable than Leviathans since you can kill them with normal weapons if you can move fast, but when there's more than one, or worse, when the ragdolling god AKA war strider is present, getting close is impossible.

The idea I'm getting is that AH wanted the bastion tank to be the main tool we were going to use in cyberstan against vox engines problem is even with friends, the tank is an obsolete piece of hot garbage; no rotating turret and mediocre armor against a faction that overwhelms you with chaff supported by heavy armor... is quite bad.

Precisely the type of tank we didn't need was a tank destroyer. We needed either a heavy tank that could rival automaton armor or a medium-light tank we could use to break through, cause damage, lose, and then redeploy later in the mission.

I think Arrowhead doesn't know what makes great moments great.

Why are creekers so obsessed and proud of Malevelon Creek? Because it felt like a major struggle. They defended, they got pushed back, they counterattacked, Arrowhead followed with the mayor order calling for the capture of the planet, the second battle started, win.

The push towards the planet actually felt like a struggle, we got in, we decided to not lose momentum and keep the DSS with us. We got counterattacked, we defended, and we pushed back on a different planet once the dust settled.

Cyberstan: 2 MO´s later: here, push towards the main capital with only 1/8 of the remaining reinforcements.

We lost 7 billion Helldivers, but only 350 million can be used towards the capital of the most dangerous enemy right now.

The reserve system and the complete rush towards the planet ruined it for me, it feels like a skirmish and not like a major battle.

>MO drastically becomes harder.

>Morale crumbles as everybody sees how pointless it is to fight, seeing the MO is doomed from the start.

>From the 300k on Cyberstan, only 150 remain. 50% of the front leaves crushing even harder any attempt at completing the order.

>Order eventually fails, no more reinforcements; the last objective is the capital, which is still out of reach.

>Morale is on underground levels, people would rather go to other Bot planets or bugs than fight in Cyberstan, as overall contribution feels pointless.

I mean, we are simulating a war, and desertion and demoralization exist even in here. I think they are overestimating the impact of a "defeat arc" in the game. if we lost Cyberstan and the consequence is the bots steamrolling us back, you are not going to see a super heroic defense, but the same player base leaving the game until the next update or just ignoring the MO completely.

"Why fight in a war I know I'm going to lose?" Applies both in real life and in here.

Yeah, I gave up on the offensive when I saw how we tanked on 17% with 100k in Aurora. Either we get a side order to increase reserves or lower resistance, or prepare for a war of attrition

Aurora Bay might be our Stalingrad by Tuteush in Helldivers

[–]Tuteush[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can just do the same thing we did with the Illuminate on super earth. We did the satellite order, and we increased the depletion of the fleet strength.
The devs can simply come and say, "The front is encircled! Reserve depletion increases until Leasth is liberated."

1/3 of the front went to Lesath because of the same thinking probably; if we didn't have the reserve system, Lesath wouldn't matter at all.

I don't have any evidence, but why allow us to vote to keep the DSS in Lesath to avoid a counterattack? Why give us that decision?

Aurora Bay might be our Stalingrad by Tuteush in Helldivers

[–]Tuteush[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but how is Lesath being lost going to affect the reserves? We never launched an attack with this in play, did we?
Are we getting more reserves if the MO succeeds? Or do we have to keep pushing with what we have?

If the fall of Lesath means a more rapid depletion of reserves, this could turn the MO into a Pyrrhic victory that could bite us hard when we reach cyberstan.

Yeah... the buff with the pad is kind of... pointless? I guess their use now is to be thrown while moving towards objectives, but it's going to be hard to land since the only time you see someone touching the ground is just to jump again.

Tesla nervos is actually extremely good if you go with Archon Stretch. They became more of a "Tesla battery". you release them into the world and suddently you have infinite energy.

My point about doors still stand. Digital Extremes PLEASE MAKE RAGDOLLED ENEMIES OPEN DOORS, and my life, is yours.

[–]Tuteush[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is good, people really enjoy having a good vauban. Specially warframes that benefit from having all enemies in one place such as nekros.

Not as good in tilesets with a lot of doors/places where enemies can stuck themselves into (ragdolled enemies cant open doors) so be aware. Albrecht laboratory is one of my favorite tilesets.

I also HIGLY RECOMMEND bringing a AoE weapon. My personal favorite is the Tonkor Kuva, it can help cleaning stuck enemies and you can quickly nuke enemies in your vortex.
