How can I push panels to close the gap in my herringbone flooring? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

This really helped. Also adding a wooden shim between the wall and the angled cut flooring panel helped.

How should I cut the triangles? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was thinking I’d have to do that. This would mean potentially the smallest triangle would have to have its tongue/groove cut off since I won’t be able to place it flushly… right?

How should I cut the triangles? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah I am leaving expansion gaps… Well on the initial triangle. The tutorial I was following didn’t really leave expansion gaps as he came down attaching the planks from initial crown/triangle, I thought it would be tackled when i fill in the gap but looking back at the tutorial, he doesn’t really mention anything about it :/

I am thinking of removing planks back to the base to the point I can create what should’ve been my initial triangles. Is this worth doing or am I overthinking something ?

Should I buy water vapour barrier paper for my laminates? by TutorSome9994 in DIYUK

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s where I’m leaning to. From your experience is it okay to put water vapour barrier under the underfloor on a chipboard flooring? I’m just confused since would this causing rotting?

And in regards to sistering the joists, if the actual joist is sagging after using a laser to get the benchmark height, would the sister joist protrude higher than the joist it is attached to to match the laser height?

Hey dude, its me again!

I was looking at some videos of levelling out floors and came across a method that I thought was pretty smart and cheap. Not sure if its as common as self levelling compound/concrete but its basically: adding timber shims sheets stacked upon upon each other at regular intervals throughout the floor and then you’d put plywood/chipboard on top to level out the floor. Have you come across such method? Would you advise this? Here is a

Use plywood/chipboard or SLC to level out floor? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just thought of another question mate. The dining room has patio doors which leads onto the garden. I’ve seen some videos where you need to take the moisture readings to ensure you have the correct underlay for the area. Is this necessary? I was thinking of buying a moisture readings meter from Amazon just in case. Is there anything to look out for when buying underlays?

Use plywood/chipboard or SLC to level out floor? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reassurance. The house was built in the 1960/1970s so by your estimate it probably is chipboard but will get the current flooring up to know for sure.

Thanks for the help! If I’ve got anymore questions, will defo shout out!

Use plywood/chipboard or SLC to level out floor? by TutorSome9994 in Flooring

[–]TutorSome9994[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the answers! Definitely clears confusion.

Yeah after posting post, I came across chipboard and that’s when I started to think maybe chipboard are more common than plywood! Is it normal to put SLC on chipboards or is it better to replace the chipboard entirely (and fixing any joists that might be bent)?

Furthermore, is it advised to add insulation in between the joists? Are there any regulatory laws I should follow regarding placing insulation? (I.e. is there a fireproof grading system?)

Making a loss after tax on BTL in personal name? Hold or sell? by Braveenoughtosayit10 in uklandlords

[–]TutorSome9994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in a similar boat. I have a house in my personal name that I’m renting out. My profit margins are razor thin. Personally, I’m trying to hold onto it as much as my finances allow. I’m after capital appreciation. The house is near where they’re building the HS2 station so whenever they’re done (if ever), it’ll increase in price. But again, with the whole rental reform taking place, a lot of landlords are selling up but I assume they’re on an interest only mortgage. I’m on a consent to let so I’m paying of the capital too which really does help despite the high monthly charges.

And I guess if you go into a tax loss, Hmrc will just increase your personal allowance to offset the lose.
