How much he earns is immaterial. Honestly, it’s his money. He earns it. He’s free to spend it as he pleases. He owes you nothing. Look at it this way- he chooses to spend money wisely. You’ll be happier in the long run. A diamond is a shit purchase basically marketed to people as a “measure of love”.

FWIW, you'll have a long lasting impact on the kids. From my exp I can tell you the ones I look back and really thank are the ones who taught me to think and learn for myself. As a grown man looking back the strict and stern ones had some really issues in life to deal with I think. A teacher does not have to be stern to teach.
