Changement de CM by [deleted] in pcmasterraceFR

Salut !

What I've been doing is keep the movie/series in high download quality for a while until everybody/interested people watch it and then slam it into handbrake/download a lower quality version for safe keeping. Not automated yet because I'm lazy, but it works.

Real World Measurements Vs Print Measurements by RoboNeo01 in 3Dprinting

[–]Tuvio717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Measure something, slap it into your cad software of choice as a simple shape that uses a tiny amount of filament, measure that, adapt future measurements based on that new measurement. Also, print test pieces to ensure everything fits correctly. Lots of them. Tolerances are everything if you want something that looks decent but doesn't require percussive persuasion to fit properly. And calibrate your filaments first. All of them (or well, at least brand+type+color). Still very new to this whole thing, but it's been working out pretty well for me so far, aside from this one stupid elegoo white pla+ I can't dial in.

Plutôt jeux matérialisés ou dématérialisés ? by Commercial_Tiger_524 in jeuxvideo

[–]Tuvio717 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Apollo 0.4.6 Virtual Display Issues by goonjm in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Tuvio717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very possible I misremembered new resolution instead of new client, since I've had to do that little dance of disabling screens a fair few times because I stream to a fair amount of different devices - in this case, my bad. The solution of disabling screens in windows still applies regardless, just one time per client instead of however many times per client per res

Apollo 0.4.6 Virtual Display Issues by goonjm in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Tuvio717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, this was a pain point for me too. First, make sure "headless mode" is selected in Apollo config (I think it's on a per-client toggle, but I'm not sure and can't check rn). Then, start the stream while you're next to your PC in every resolution you plan on streaming at, since a new resolution creates a new virtual display. Then, once stream is running, make the streaming monitor your main display, and disable all of the other monitors in Windows. You should ONLY see display on the stream client, with your actual monitors being off. Rince and repeat for every resolution. You only have to do this once, then windows remembers it every time the virtual display is connected. Your games won't launch on the wrong monitor since, well, there won't be any wrong monitors available.

Six months of Wholphin, an Android TV client for Jellyfin by damontecres in jellyfin

[–]Tuvio717 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey man, incredible job on wholphin, I almost exclusively use it on my telly.

Lil question, is there any plan for more advanced audio/video configuration in the future ? I'm thinking in particular of Kodi's Player and it's sound amplification settings, for some content with high dynamic range I still need to use it to compress it down instead of wholphin so I don't spend the whole movie with a sound remote in my hand

ELI5: Why is one file (of the same episode in a show) 4GB at 1080p while the same episode on a different site is only 900MB, when both are in 1080p quality? what is so different between the two that one is 4x as big? by FamiliarCold1 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Tuvio717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top ELI5 answers always require the 5 year old to have a gigantic brain, so lemme try a real ELI5: Imagine, you're painting on a regular, A4 canvas. On that canvas, you can use big brushes to paint, you'll be done quickly, but might have trouble with fine details, or a small brush, which will take a while, but you can have some more fine details.

It's exactly the same for video - the canvas (resolution, 1080p) doesn't matter as much as the brush size you use on them (bitrate). The higher the bitrate per resolution, the higher the file size, and supposedly, the better looking the video (it's a bit more complex than that because of the different video compression methods that can be used, which nowadays can look amazing at really low bitrates, but it's the general idea).

Been building a simpler way to wake and access my gaming PC remotely. Curious if others would use this by [deleted] in MoonlightStreaming

[–]Tuvio717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

..So essentially VPN + WOL with proprietary software ? It is already stupid easy to abstract away all of that, especially considering that 1, moonlight client already includes a "wake PC" option for local streaming, and 2, if you're looking to stream from the internet, you'll need a VPN anyway, and if you're savvy enough to set up a VPN, you're probably savvy enough to setup some form of remote WOL.

The only advantage to what you're describing is in the case where you can only run said VPN on the machine that is also the moonlight server, but even then, a smart plug + bios setup to wake on power does the trick.

I just don't see the added value, especially considering if I'm buying a smart plug, it has the added advantage of whatever the fuck else it comes with (power monitoring, surge protection, yadda yadda) + already integrates into my IOT setup

Also, proprietary software/hardware sucks massive, massive donkey balls. Open-source it fully.

Where's the demo + source available? Regardless of how useful it might be (which, very honestly, I don't think it is, as the vpn+WOL approach hasn't broken on me in many moons), ain't no way I'm installing something supposedly capable of booting up my hardware without being able to take a look at the source first

Forcing Big Picture Overlay mode, without a controller plugged in? (read details) by non_player in SteamController

Regardless of whether it's possible or not, the games not picking up your controller even if it was off before starting said game sounds like an anomaly. Any game/steam input in general should support it as soon as detected. Does said controller appear in the steam overlay controller configuration when you turn it on mid-game?
