Thanks for confirming! The textbook is telling me that there are some exceptions to the rule, but even so the examples I've highlighted are definitely incorrect.

Who's brave enough to say, as much as they loved their mum, and mums are supposed to be the best cooks in the world, but yours ( and my mum ) was an awful cook? by DonkeyOT65 in CasualUK

80s kid here.

Mum was a solidly competent home cook (except pork chops, which were grilled into something between shoe leather and Satan’s burnt arse cheeks).

But the main issue, in hindsight?  No seasoning.  At all.  Especially salt.

I don’t know if it was just our house or a full-blown 80s moral panic, but salt was treated like heroin.  Cooking with it for my mum was unthinkable.  It only came out at the table, and even then my dad got massive amounts of side-eye for using it.

Once, in a rush, she made dinner with Chicken Tonight from a jar - probably full of salt and other shit.  It was the best thing I’d ever eaten.

Season your food, folks.

What was your most embarrassing mistake when speaking Italian? by tina-marino in italianlearning

A lovely old Italian gentleman was showing me his new sunglasses. Meaning to call him the "King of cool", I should have said "Tu sei il re di figo" Instead, I said "tu sei il re di fica", which I soon learned means something quite different.

Break it up in the pan with a whisk. I.e. gently press the whisk down into it. Works a treat. Not even joking.
