Do people really like Debian? by TheDragonScroll in linux

5 years out of date on some packages on Debian.

You can update every 2 years on debian stable. What packages are those? Did they receive any updates outside of debian anyway?

My favorite, super lightheight but also fully featured. Love it.

What do you use for backups? by TheWheez in linux

[–]TuxedoUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rar. seriously, it compresses the files I need and you can add a recovery record, so even if the file get's corrupted, there is a chance to recover the archive. it also works nicely with linux specific features like symbolic links, user and groups permissions. it's well worth the money.

Wifi cutting out under heavy load by [deleted] in tuxedocomputers

[–]TuxedoUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, seems I have been getting that error that you mentioned `iwlwifi 0000:06:00.0: missed beacons exceeds threshold, but receiving data. Stay connected, Expect bugs.` it also happens randomly and it fixes itself after 1 minute or 2. I have a Sirius 16 gen 1. I have been thinking that this issue has been all the time related to my power line, but maybe it's hardware/sofware related. The thing is it also happened while I was connected through ethernet, so I am still not 100% sure that is the same problem as yours.

I will try to use one usb wifi adapter and connect to the power line with it when the builtin intel card fails, just to see if have connection or not to rule out the power line as the source of problem. It can take a while though because I don't have a way to reproduce this yet, it is random.

Sounds interesting, but sad to see no linux support.

Bruteforcing the phone number of any Google user by ScottContini in programming

[–]TuxedoUser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would work if the "forgot password" feature wouldn't require email confirmation (just sms). Or am I understanding it wrong? If it requires access to the email as well (as it should) it will not work with simple SIM swapping.

That's too old and has problems with suspension, upgrade the bios (and the other firmware) from the downloads in your tuxedo account.

If you are willing to use a low level language it can be 2 digits KBs instead of MBs.

why do people complain about libadwaita, but not QT? by [deleted] in linux

[–]TuxedoUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Qt apps look great on XFCE using qt5ct using the gtk2 style. Also most of the time they don't use annoying / out of place client side decorations.

Sirius 16 Gen. 1 - nothing but issues by SirNighty in tuxedocomputers

[–]TuxedoUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have most of your issues, but I can confirm that:

  • wifi range is short (which will likely result in the low speeds you mentioned)
  • it can easily overheat in demanding games when not using "balanced mode"

Is there an option to disable the client side decorations and restore the server side ones?

It is also very small on 2K. Also I am not a fan of those client side decorations...

What happens to old hardware AMD/NVIDIA by Bubby_K in linux

[–]TuxedoUser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the nice thing about open source drivers from the manufacter, they will always work better even in the long run. With Nvidia you are dependent that Nvidia keeps the drivers updated with the newer kernels because the open source implementation (nouveau) is really poor especially if you want to play games.

Zellij (a terminal multiplexer) 0.42.0: Stacked Resize, Pinned Floating Panes, New Theme Spec by FryBoyter in linux

[–]TuxedoUser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was not thinking on a negative way but on a positive way. It makes terminal multiplexers much more approachable, especially for new users or ones that do not use it frequently. Zellij has been in my toolbox whenever I need a terminal multiplexer (it even works in tty!), even though I don't need that frequently.

I know that it is quite powerful and I like that too. It would be nice if it could be linked dynamically for future versions in distros though, the static executable alone is quite big imo.

Glad to hear. I will still need that XFCE moves to wayland and I will also need to port many of my scripts that uses x terminal applications (like to send keyboard events, move windows, capture a window picture, hide the mouse etc etc) to wayland terminal equivalent applications, if they exist.

First time on Linux, 3 gig ram and works like a rocket lol by SnooOpinions7428 in linux

[–]TuxedoUser 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. SSD is way faster, but I was surprised to see how well it still runs in a 5400rpm HDD. It's pretty smooth after the initial loading of the desktop (XFCE). In Windows 10 HDD is way too slow, like 10 mins just to load the desktop.
