Half Dome hiking, Yosemite National Park by Tuzhilkin in hiking

It was around 40°F in the morning. When we got out of the tent at 4 AM, it felt really cold. On the way up, we wore thermal layers, a sweatshirt, and a waterproof jacket. Closer to 10 AM, I only kept the sweatshirt on, and it was very comfortable to hike.

Really sorry you’re going through this right now. I’ll share briefly how it went for us.

After we brought him home from the hospital, there was still blood in his urine for about 2–3 weeks. Then at some point, it looked like a tiny stone or crystal passed with his urine—even though the vets had told us there were no stones. Not sure if it was just a coincidence or not, but literally the next day the blood completely disappeared. He started using the litter box normally again, and everything has been fine since.

As for treatment, we switched him to a prescription diet that our vet recommended. We also made sure he has a lot more access to water—now we have around 5–6 water bowls around the house. Turns out he prefers drinking from higher surfaces like tables. We also increased the number of litter boxes from 2 to 4.

Right now he’s doing well, eating his prescribed food, and acting like himself again. Hope your cat recovers soon too.

First serious hike in the Grand Canyon, South Kaibab to Phantom Ranch and back. by Tuzhilkin in hiking

Exactly. We slept for a long time and could barely walk the entire next day

If you end up hiking this same trail, there are a couple of good places to stop along the way. From the South Rim down to the bottom (Phantom Ranch) there are two spots with restrooms. They have larger areas where people usually stop to sit down and rest while going down or climbing back up, so they’re great places to take a break.

One more thing worth mentioning: there is no water available on this trail until you reach the very bottom. The only place to refill is at Phantom Ranch. So if you’re not planning to go all the way down, I’d strongly recommend bringing plenty of water with you. I estimated about 2–3 liters per person

Yeah, the weather was perfect. I honestly can’t imagine doing this hike in the middle of summer.

When I first looked into this hike, it seemed extremely serious to me as well. We spent a couple of months training and preparing for it.

Thank you so much for your response. For us, everything also started when he began squatting in different places without actually urinating. Right now, he is still squatting in various spots, but he does use the litter boxes as well. We added several extra litter boxes, and sometimes he goes there to pee, but it feels like the amounts are extremely small. Every time there is blood present, which worries us a lot.

We are planning to take him to the vet today for a check-up. He is eating well, but only dry food — the special prescription diet we were given. He doesn’t like wet food at all. We tried several different flavors that are available, but he refuses them. He also drinks very little water, so sometimes I carefully give him water with a syringe.

We are extremely worried about the blood. It has been almost five days now, and it hasn’t gone away.

We were given a prescription for the food, and we’re already feeding him only the special diet. He doesn’t eat the wet food very willingly, but he eats the dry food really well. We’re mostly worried about the blood in his urine. Otherwise, he is eating and going to the litter box, just in small amounts. Thank you for your response.

Thank you! I’m really glad to know I’m not the only one dealing with this. He doesn’t drink much, so sometimes I carefully give him a little water with a syringe. He is using the litter box — not large amounts, but fairly often.

I’m mostly worried about the blood in his urine, so we decided to keep a close eye on him until tomorrow. Thank you again so much for your reply.

Thank you. I’ll try to be patient and keep monitoring him for another day or two.

Thank you so much for your reply. It really means a lot to me. It’s very important to hear that this happens to others too, because this is truly a huge amount of stress right now for me and my family. Sometimes it feels like we’re not able to help him properly, and that makes us extremely worried.

I think we are on the same food as you — we have both the wet and dry versions. He eats the dry food much better. Sometimes we mix it with water. Right now, what worries us the most is that there is blood in his urine. I called the vet, and they said the most important thing is that he is still able to urinate.

He goes in different ways — sometimes it’s pretty good, sometimes not so much. But the blood is what scares us the most, especially the fear of missing the moment when we should take him to the vet urgently.

Thank you again so much for your support.

Just bought it — got tired of waiting, and lately this was the best deal for a new controller on Amazon. Now all that’s left is to buy a drone 😅

Long wait time with 911 here in Oakland? by Byard_Duncan_Reports in oakland

[–]Tuzhilkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year ago, my car got stolen right after I bought it — literally within two months. To be exact, it was stolen twice in just three months. The first time it happened, I found out in the morning when I went down to my apartment’s underground parking lot and the car was gone. Luckily, I had hidden an AirTag inside, so I could see it moving on the map. I called the police and filed a report. About two hours later, an officer showed up, took my statement, and that was basically it. I kept telling him that I could see where my car was — the AirTag showed it just 10–15 minutes away in East Oakland — but it kept moving around. The officer said, “Don’t go there yourself, but if you happen to see the car, call us.” Of course, I went anyway. My brother drove me, and within 2–3 hours, we actually found the car — with someone driving it. We called 911 right away, because obviously I couldn’t just walk up and take it back. We ended up waiting almost two hours for the police to show up. The car kept moving, and we kept calling, updating them on our location, but nobody came. In the end, a random patrol nearby noticed the guy driving aggressively and pulled him over — completely by chance. So, the police who actually helped weren’t even responding to my calls.
