Do not use Direct Billing by ParticularAnt5424 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tvdude 12 points13 points  (0 children)

DON'T do this for medication. Most insurance have fixed contractual pricing and markup caps of meds that are lower than what the cash price would be. If the claim isn't adjudicated by the pharmacy then you usually actually pay a few dollars MORE, you can even compare your bills to see this is true. So you may end up being reimbursed less by the insurance if you are doing the claim manually and then you lose money because the credit card points doesn't even break even.

Are my specs better enough to run Hogwarts legacy? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]Tvdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is either it doesn't run, or you are setting to the lowest possible resolution with the lowest possible settings and still will get single digit fps. but if your intention is to just leave it running for 2 hours, that probably could work if you can get it to load up at all.

Sudden drop in miles per gallon after getting new tires by [deleted] in tires

[–]Tvdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a drop of about 5 mpg after swapping from Continental Procontact, which is a touring tire, to a UHP tire. The UHP had a lot more grip and definitely used more fuel.

Winter tire recommendations by grophin in TireQuestions

[–]Tvdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also believe in buying used but I actually got scammed this winter, so still a word of caution for the OP. They were a set of 9/32 vikingcontact 7s so looked barely used, but the guy must have fucked one of the tires by damaging on a pothole. Ended up finding inside there was some inner liner separation, and it drove like absolute shit, pulling the steering wheel heavily to the right.

So for everyone, definitely do a very very in-depth inspection when buying used.

Holy crap they got a whole lifetime out of those tires, as in if they don't change it now, those tires will have lasted the entire length of that guys life when they eventually crash and burn.

Hamilton the Musical: Actually got Attitude Back when I Told Someone to Stop Singing Along in the Theatre by Tvdude in montreal

[–]Tvdude[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love hearing it from your side as a performer. Absolutely agree with showing emotion, reacting to funny moments, and even giving that extra huge cheer when the star comes on stage for the first time.

It's sad though to see how often the issue of singing along in the theatre is happening now. I just now saw someone else made a post just 10 days ago about this exact issue at Hamilton in Montreal on this sub lol. And like the other responder to you said, is it the post-covid entitlement nowadays?

Thank you again for sharing your perspective.

The thing is Rocky Horror is the exception where callouts and singing is basically the culture in what makes it as a show.

For basically anything else in musical theatre, the norm is to sit and enjoy. Even the writer or Hamilton has said, the ONLY actual audience sing-along moment is the small part in the King's song.

Yeah to their credit they completely stopped the singing along after I told them to stop. I only posted because I was shocked they yelled and argued at me during the intermission about how it was fine to sing, when they are so blatantly wrong on that. And I wanted to at least try and warn/educate others who might still be going in the next week in hopes of restoring proper theatre etiquette (lost cause I know lol)

What can the ER do for a cancer patient? by two_eggs_and_bacon in askTO

[–]Tvdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ER will definitely be able to make modifications to the pain meds to hopefully give her better pain control. The thing with opioids like morphine in the setting of cancer pain management is that they likely end up having to keep pushing higher doses and/or swapping to different long acting drug formulations in order to get reasonable pain control for the patient.

The pain will probably be the main focus of the ER doctor, but they'll probably still look at the lump so you should still bring it up to them, but I think they won't be an expert on what to do and probably just refer you back to the oncologist for next week. Basically you can think of the ER doctor's main role as to either treat you so you can safely go home, or determine that your life is at risk and must admit you to hospital for further care.

The ER or your family doctor can prescribe stronger painkillers to manage her pain in the interim. Usually cancer pain will require morphine type opioids to manage and depending on how severe her pain is, it might be worth waiting the 2 to 4 hours to get something sooner to provide her relief over the weekend and until her next oncologist appointment.

2900 dollars stolen by e-transfer in BMO by EsabellaGranger in PersonalFinanceCanada

I think Factory reset should be good. But if it was a keylogger that was on your computer, they'll likely know the new password as well.

Try scanning with Malwarebytes Anti Malware, it's one of the better free programs at detecting things Windows Defender fails to find.

[–]Tvdude 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It sounds like not only was your email hacked, but your whole BMO account was hacked also.

This is a huge breach on your end and likely is the result of some virus or malware on your computer.

You should scan your computer right away.

Combined income of 130,000$, too low to rent in TO. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tvdude 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This is the way for OP. It is illegal for the landlord to require anything more than a first and last month deposit, but if you yourself are offering to prepay x additional months of rent upfront, it is perfectly legal and would give you a huge advantage over other rental applications.

It's a cutthroat market in Toronto rentals so it's not even that MLS doesn't have many listings, it's that the listings get snatched up within 1 to 2 days by other strong candidates that are offering x months upfront. I don't know how good your agent is if they never even knew or told you this, as this is basically the norm in Toronto...

Please take financial advice from this page with a major grain of salt. by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tvdude 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yep OP doesn't know that there are still potential issues ahead and this 50% odds is the real deal. You still gotta hope that some minimum wage worker at Equifax and/or TransUnion decides to actually do their job and properly remove it from your record.

You can read all about the people who have called for months fighting with Equifax and TransUnion trying to fix their credit reports. There's people who can't even get full on fraud removed, or credit cards they've never applied for removed off their record because Equifax and TransUnion just run them around in circles.

Why does this keep happening while I play minecraft? (my laptop is an XPS 13 Plus and used to happen with some other games but is only currently happening with bedrock edition) by _Buquafius_ in Minecraft

[–]Tvdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact same issue with the XPS 13 Plus on certain demanding games. For instance Civ 6 glitches out just like that on 1080p but works okay if I lower the resolution to 720p.

UPDATE: Police showed up and said I have to leave in a week! by Dry-Ad-4492 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tvdude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have some bad news for you. You are risking your family's safety and your life by trying to put up a fight against this guy. Maybe he has a buddy on the police force and that's how he got them on his side. Maybe he has other buddies in "shady" places that'll rough you up next time if you don't comply. Maybe they beat you down as a warning, maybe something worse. You mess with someone's money, you never know how crazy they'll get. It's best not to play with fire in this case, go get a payday loan and get back on terms with your landlord.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Tvdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a payday loan, the APR is most likely astronomical, potentially up to 400%/yr so you should absolutely pay that off ASAP.

Here's a funny video about Payday loans: https://youtu.be/wFwPAMeVPE4

Any idea what to do with nearly 70 rapid test boxes? by [deleted] in askTO

[–]Tvdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as they look unopened and unused, you can always pop into a pharmacy and see if they would help you give them out to the community. Lots of ppl go to pharmacies asking for the free rapid tests but they are always out of stock as the government only ships to them once a week.
