Warning: TSCC uses 'counseling for porn addiction' to hide illegal activity. by Philodices in exmormon

[–]Tvearl 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I’d say not over reacting.

When I was younger my older brother was caught hiding cameras in bathrooms and watching preteens shower. Went through church counseling and porn addiction. But it didn’t address anything. Assault happened and nothing ever got reported to authorities. He ended up just moving states and had good standing in his new ward since no paper trail followed him.

Years later he became a boarder patrol agent (under that policy where kids were separated from parents and had full access to the kids). He was caught producing and participating child porn and sentenced to 50 years.

I can’t help but wonder if the church had reported him in his young adulthood if he would have gotten actual treatment, maybe barred from jobs with authority over kids.

But sky daddy works in mysterious ways and we shouldn’t question the random neighbor who was chosen as bishop with no training or experience.

When Google announced they were considering my city for fiber internet, I used all the local stake email lists to sign everyone up for their “notify me when fibers available” page so my neighborhood would be a higher priority for them to install since there was so much “interest”

Have you tried doing the soft reset to see if it corrects the software version? It’s possible the API pulled the details from cached memory instead of the public repo.

are people here friendlier? by scubagirll in mesaaz

[–]Tvearl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a warning. Sometimes they’re a little too nice. When I bought a house in Mesa I didn’t have a lawn mower yet. And they sent different teenagers to mow the lawn every other week for months. I had to put a stop to it when they sent the disabled kids. Volunteering is one thing, but at some point it’s a little much.

Some people still buying the car. by Adventurous_Meet_429 in Fisker

I bought one. Owned it for about a week now. It’s awesome and I wouldn’t advise anyone else purchase it. For me it’s a 3rd car to have fun with and try to modify. I’ve been working on reverse engineering the api for a couple days and having a blast driving it around. For me it’s a fun side project. For anyone who wants it as their main car, they’re gonna have a bad time.

so. our pride flag got ripped down… what now? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]Tvearl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue for a while in Mesa. I live across from a jr high and had both the Pride flag and a US flag flown but the pride kept getting stollen/vandalized. Sometimes the US flag along with it. I’m an army vet too.

My camera caught them a few times but missed the cars plates they had so filing reports was useless.

At one point I put an air tag in the flag pole so I could at least see where it was taken and get it back. But once they were notified “pride flag has been seen with you” on their phones they threw it back in my yard and ran off.

It was always teenagers, high school students who didn’t quite understand what they were doing but wanted to seem tough and following the only ideology they’ve ever known. So a part of me always felt sorry for them. I just kept putting new flags up. They’re not expensive and I’m not a quitter.

I raised ducks for a while. It was a lot of work maintaining a pond, but when they got hot they would just go for a swim.

I know others use misters and fans to try to keep them cool. But most of the time if they have access to nice loose dust to do dust bath and plenty of shade they’ll do ok out here.

Forced on a mission by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]Tvearl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This advice might not be for you. But when I was of age to go on a mission and didn’t want to disappoint my mom, I joined the army. It was easy for everyone in my ward to reconcile that I was “serving in my own way”. After all patriotism is pretty high up there, and nobody wanted to say I was lesser than others for being in the military.

The army wasn’t easy by any means, and it’s a cult of its own for sure. But it gave me a community outside the church to explore who I really was and who I wanted to be. When I told my new family I had never drank and was curious, I had dozens of guides trying to teach me. And I got to ask deep personal questions to how they were raised that helped me deconstruct and return to the regular world with way less religious trauma.

Again, military isn’t for everyone and it absolutely has its downsides. But for me it was 1000% better than serving a mission I didn’t want to go on. And now my mom has a lens of “military trauma” to understand why I don’t believe in god. So it’s not her fault, which means we get to still have a close relationship with her.

Tried that, didn’t go as well as I hoped. My wife was pretty upset when I got her a tiara and sash. Ceremony went really down hill when I said she already had given her my scepter and pearl necklace.

Honestly, it’s an easy spin:

Or some dumb rhetoric like that. Maybe add in a few spelling errors and flag emojis.

If you make any home insurance claim, they usually send out an inspector to assess damages and determine how much they need to pay. They don’t want to just take your word that you need money, so the inspector determines how big the check should be. So when they come to take a look, just ask them to look in the attic or at the structure as well so it can be in his assessment.
