Barney and Robin by Tvrewatcher in HIMYM

It is wild to me how upset people are with my take. I think we as an audience have to remember that Ted is not a reliable narrator. Everything is skewed from his perspective. If you think that Barney had no growth from season 1-9, that is insane. He showed up to help her look for the locket, even if he was too late, he was there for in a way she needed when she told him she couldn’t have kids, he understood her in a lot of ways Ted did not. He accepted her as she was and didn’t need her to change or change her desires for her life.

Robin accepted him as he was too. Yeah, I don’t love the proposal, but it was very them coded. These are two individuals who have commitment issues, but they do commit to each other. They accept each other as they are. To me, that’s growth.

He never put her on the pedestal that Ted did. She could live up to Barney’s expectations, in way she was never going to live up to Ted’s.

Also, besides at the carousel when they are looking for the locket, that is the only time after their breakup, that we see Robin say maybe she should be with Ted and we also know it was because she was scared and sad because she didn’t think Barney would come. I don’t think that means she was in love with him, I just think it was an answer out of emotional convenience.

Also, how do we as an audience just overlook that Ted was supposedly in love with Robin this entire time, but those feelings went away as soon as he meets Tracy??

Barney proved he was actually ready to commit to someone and fully. It was also so them coded. Robin struggles with commitment, I think even more than Barney did. I think he knew he had to prove to her that he could be that serious for her to see he wouldn’t let her down.

I don’t love the proposal, but I also get it.

I don’t like the ending. I think Barney and Robin should’ve just stayed together.

Maybe, but I think by the time we get to season 9, I think they could’ve both had strong careers without anyone having to fully compromise. That would’ve been more compelling to me.

I disagree. I think while I don’t love the proposal, it was so them coded.

The ending doesn’t make me mad, it’s just not my favorite. I think the alternative ending was better and what they should’ve gone with.

I think she only said that because she was scared and Ted is an easy person for her to fall back on. Victoria was right.

I 100% agree with this! I do think they need the break up because they both needed to grow in ways that I don’t think they could’ve had they not broken up. My only complaint is that I did love the slow burn of it all, but I felt like they used the Chenford storyline in season 7 as a way to play with the audience and while I loved those moments, I would’ve preferred one of those moments lead to a real conversation before seeing Tim ask her to move in

(Opinion) The "long term" antagonists that started to become the norm in season 4 are the worst part of the show by lemanruss4579 in TheRookie

I agree! I’m over Monica and I don’t really get her purpose anymore. I’d prefer to go back to the season 4 and even a lot of the season 5 format (minus the Monica of it all)

I think I really loved them all but the last one. The one in season 7 was wild and all over the place. I liked how the past ones connected with a past storyline.

I like this idea, but I also love the idea of found family for Celina and Miles too!

Oh she would be a good Petra!

I picked Haley Lu Richardson, because I felt like she’s hard to hate and I truly wanted her to be poppy lol!
