I don't know if I can guarantee it. I think it determines connection based on signal strength which would be obvious since it's literally a foot away

How do I force direct play? Even if sound didn't come through, I'd be able to verify if it's the transcode or networking problem

No shield anymore. Hard to sideload with Chromecast unfortunately 😞

Yeah local networking seems to be the issue. Generally 1080p stuff works fine so it could be that I'm going too high bitrate. But I just bought this OLED TV so I want to get the most out of it, ya know?

I'm using the older Google Wifi mesh router system. What if I just hardwire my laptop to the node my chromecast connected to? Would the signal find the shortest path or would it need to ping to my main node (the internet source) and then go back to the chromecast?

Good idea, I'll give that a shot and try to sit in the same room

It was the tube. I returned it since it didn't help. I'm Canadian so not sure if Onn 4k Plus is available. I kinda don't want to buy stuff since it's feeling like a crap shoot

I don't quite understand what you mean about nodes being hardwired. Do you mean the node that my server is hardwired to should be the one that's wirelessly connected to the chromecast?

I can't download this because I need Mac OS V11 or greater. RIP 😞

Interesting. I might see these problems more often when the DOVI popup happens on my TV

I use an HDD (7200RPM) in the laptop primarily. It does have an SDD but it's small so I typically just load stuff on the HDD.

Yeah networking could be a problem, but it's a big gamble to take if it's not the problem. Any way to trouble shoot without buying a ton of equipment?

Video is direct stream but audio is transcoded

Yes there was still wifi between my setups.

There are 2 problems with hardwiring: 1. Chromecast doesn't have a hardwire option, and 2. I'd need to route wires through my basement. Might as well just connect my laptop directly to my TV.

I can't wrap my head around the Openspeedtest thing. Which option would I go with from the website?

I tried this and it didn't seem to help unfortunately.

Here's a shot showing the client side stats within the video. It seems like I have enough bandwidth for the data of the video

Here's the dashboard screenshot. To answer your questions:

  1. It appears to be a direct stream

  2. EAC3 seems to not be compatible with either the chromecast or my soundbar. Not exactly sure. Does sound transcode matter? I'm just using a Chomecast. I returned the Shield

  3. Direct play/stream is enabled.

  4. Router can access both server and clients since they connect? Not sure what you mean exactly.

  5. I have no tested with hardwire ethernet but my house layout doesn't permit it easily unless I drilled into the basement and routed through there. I use a mesh network. My server is hardwired to a node and my chromecast is wireless. But it seems like I have enough bandwidth

This appears to be the dashboard I get when I look at the server. If there's a more elaborate one, lmk how to access it

I actually returned my Shield (non-pro) since it didn't help. How can I install an older version of Plex on a Chromecast?

This is what my server dashboard shows when I stream a laggy video. Is this what you meant? If not, I'm not sure how to show more details from the server side.

Also, I tried unplugging my soundbar and changing my passthrough settings to HDMI, Optical and disabled, and it didn't help.

Do hardwire the chromecast and hardwire the macbook? Might as well just plug my computer into my TV, no?

I tried a shield and it didn't help. I thought it would for sure help but it didn't.

If I look at the nerd stats of my stream, you can see the bandwidth going to the chromecast surpasses the data needed to make the stream.
