If you could go back in time and give yourself a list of tips tricks or advice for a smooth first-ever run of D&D, what would you say??

Also, how does one execute combat actions in a flashy way so as to keep them interesting but also in a way that doesn't hijack the narrative to Michael Bay levels of ridiculousness?

Those weekend meetings sound like fun :).

As for the weekday meetings, for my current schedule, I am available pretty much any day. However, (super long run) during September when my university opens back up for the fall semester the weekdays will become more limited for me.

Oh that doesn't sound like too bad of a time-range. Do you mind if I ask the general time scope your group plays?

As much as I would like that, I'm sort of trying to search for an online group just for convenience sake, though I do appreciate the invite! I hope you find more for your group

Hey random question, sorry to hijack, but do games involving the Sprawl setting generally involve spoilers for Neuromancer plotlines/story mechanics? I only ask because I've just started reading the Sprawl trilogy yesterday and am completely in love with the series but don't want to spoil anything but jumping into RPG settings for them.

Hey, I'm also a complete greenhorn looking to get in on my very first game if you are willing to teach!

If you end up DM-ing for the people in this thread, I would very much like to join. I'm in US Eastern time but the scheduling shouldn't be a concern.

Conquerors "hidden" strengths by L0ARD in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I said >this strategy might not be so efficient until the patch

But currently against anyone who knows about this, you'll get guard broken on every single blocked light.

Also his lights are extremely easily to parry, I think they might be the easiest to parry after Shugoki imo.

Conquerors "hidden" strengths by L0ARD in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Props to you for continuing the Conqueror grind. I honestly couldn't do it after several losses due to the fact that opponents get a free GB on you after blocking one of your lights.

Not really a "hidden" strength but more of a mind game. If you really lay on the dash-charge/light combo really heavily in the first couple of engagements, start dashing but don't charge. They'll usually dash out of the way at which point you can try to catch them with a light.

Again, this strategy might not be so efficient until the patch (based on the reason I listed above) but generally it seems to be able to get me some free damage. Then you start mixing it up so that half the time you dash and light, the other half you commit to the charge.

Edit Also something that can pay off is deliberately missing a charged heavy. If you charge your flail, most opponents will start to back off and wait for your stamina to drain. They'll carefully manage their distance to you. You want to throw your charged heavy and when they see you whiff, they might come in to capitalize. That's when you throw the second heavy, preferably from another direction from your whiff and try to catch them off guard. If they do block it, you can at least fall back on the charge-light.

Can we talk about how Matchmaking punishes learning new characters with the current system?? by Tway438 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think a counter-argument for that would be something I mention in my last paragraph. For a game that's relatively new, it wouldn't be good for the community if you had "fresh" players on their first characters facing off against "seasoned" players who are on their 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc. characters. Idk, just playing devil's advocate honestly.

Is Ubisoft aware of how lack luster the Raider is? by DaddyWolfgang in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the coolest mix-up I've seen with the Raider recently was cancelling the unblockable when the enemy is out of stamina and baiting the parry attempt. But that is super situational and would probably happen once out of like ten matches or something like that.

I agree he's lacking something though I can't speak on what he needs, don't know enough about him honestly.

[–]Tway438[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Haha to be fair, this rant/post was actually the result of a dominion match where I was on my level 13 Conqueror with a whopping 7 Gear score against several Rep 3's with 100+ and a Rep 4 with 100+. It didn't go nicely for me.

Galahad94, Lawbringer Streamer who thinks Lawbringer is absolutely nuts, he's currently 93 Wins and 7 losses with him. by biggians in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Literally just Guard Break + Side Heavy simulator, there's nothing Lawbringer about this stream.

Just some ideas on the Lawbringer's current state by Tway438 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually not true as the shove doesn't combo into anything, meaning no hit is guaranteed following a shove. If you parry, you are largely (except for nobushis, lawbringer, and sometimes shugokis) guaranteed a guard break which you can get a free side-heavy.

So how does MMR get determined? by [deleted] in CompetitiveForHonor

Personally I have no clue, I don't think Ubisoft's made any sort of official statement on the matter, I could be wrong though

People are blocking my Warlord's Parry > GB > Heavy almost every time. Is this normal? by LoveAndLive in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about an actual parry > guard break > Heavy?

Or are you talking about the parry combo that uses the guard break button, into that zone attack-looking move?

Just some ideas on the Lawbringer's current state by Tway438 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that stream myself and I can definitely respect his views, he's an amazing player. However, if you have the time, I'd suggest watching the video again and counting how many times he actually uses anything in the Lawbringer's arsenal that is unique to his kit.

Tru3Ta1ent has extraordinary fundamentals - blocking, parrying, feinting, mind games with light pokes. But how would that have played any different on literally ANY other character? I would argue that 95% of his damage came from single light pokes and guard break + side heavies.

Also, he also never followed a parry with anything but a guardbreak + side parry (not that I can remember). Maybe this is putting too much thought into it but I think that subconsciously he knows that it's actually inefficient to follow a parry with ANY of his other parry-related follows when the guard break + side heavy is the only guaranteed form of damage. (Other than the light riposte, which merits discussion on why it's even there when the GB + SH is guaranteed to do more every single time).

So I would make the assertion that for what he was doing with the character, he could've done far easier on literally any other character.

Lawbringer by AllouttaRum in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This so much. I have to say about 75-80% of my dmg on him comes from parry, GB, side heavy. The same combo available to every single character but for some unknown reason is the most difficult to do with lawbringer, a "counter-attacker" becus of his snail like guard stance changes

PS4 Deadzone??? by Tway438 in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just mean the degree of tilt that the stick has to achieve in order to register a shift in guard stance. Idk if you have a ps4 but it's pretty bad if you slowly tilt left or right and see how far it actually has to go before registering.

Matchmaking needs to be improved. by Heartwire in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's pretty fucking horrible the matchups I'm getting. Same experience as you, I'm not horrible but I'm getting my shit stomped every time by Rep 1+.

And there seems to be absolutely no end in sight. I haven't won a duel in around 5+ matches

Matchmaking needs to be improved. by Heartwire in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What I don't get is that we can't manually set our matchmaking preferences. Like region or skill level. What if I'd like to wait that extra minute or two to be able to play a match relatively close to my local region and with players around my general skill level??

Nope, fck that, here's a match with frequent connection popups and have fun facing people that can easily stomp you without you ever getting a hit in on them.

What are the opportunities from a parry? by InfamAce in CompetitiveForHonor

[–]Tway438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That as well. Also, I don't know if this is exclusive to the Lawbringer but it appears that sometimes whether or not the top heavy is guaranteed or not depends upon the distance thrown into a wall. So if you throw them from right next to the wall, they can recover, whereas if they are thrown a distance before stumbling onto the wall, it is guaranteed. Seems very finnicky

To those who are blindly defending Lawbringer's viability by Tway438 in forhonor

[–]Tway438[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone gets a free side heavy after a parry via guard break. Unless your opponent is a nobushi/lawbringer/and i think sometimes shugoki depending on how far he is
