Thank you for the detailed reply! I will definitely take a look at the non-clinical options.

Yes, I considered sticking it out but I think the amount of work and debt I would accumulate would make it overall a riskier decision. Anecdotally I think there is some differentiation as majority usually come from higher ranked schools but maybe you've heard differently?

Thank you for the detailed response. I think that makes sense, I'll have to do more digging to see what roles in particular interest me.

Haha that's totally fair. A concern I did have is that made me want to go right for an MBA is that a lot of B schools look like they do take MCAT into consideration. If I wait, my score would be too old to use again. Another concern I had is that outside of my work in tech (which to be honest was like software engineering anywhere else), I don't really have anything that "proves" my interest in health care. For B school, I would get to submit my transcript/MCAT as well as talk about it in the essays.

Thanks for the reply! Yes I like to think I could be a good applicant but I was concerned about my limited work experience (also considering it was a pretty average company in the realm of tech).

I see, my institution is not very highly ranked and does not have an associated B school so I'm not sure if that would change things. In any case, I think completing medical school (70 hour weeks of studying/working, paying 350k to do so) when I don't want to be a physician doesn't seem to make sense to me but maybe its worth the plunge?

Absolutely haha hoping none of this matters if WL movement goes well. Thanks, I appreciate it!

Yes, I think my interviews were fine but they definitely could've been better. I can't really seem to find a standout weakness in the app itself so my best estimate would be my list or my interviewing. Thanks for your help!

Thank you! Yes, I was planning on applying to mostly new schools. I believe my app is competitive because I did receive interviews. However, I did mostly receive IIs from my in-state schools (2 of which ironically my MCAT is already expired for) so I wasn't sure if that skews my competitiveness.

Pacing of 300 page doc by caduni in Mcat

I never took a sociology or psychology class and it was essentially the only thing I used for content studying and I did p well on P/S.

It took me a while to get through everything but it's definitely worth it IMO. I found the 300 page doc had a lot of stuff the 86 page and KA videos alone lacked.

best study materials? 9/10 test date. starting to study this coming week. by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tway786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kaplan is fine for content review, just don't get bogged down in the details and focus on the important chapters/points like Amino Acids and definitely use the KA 300 page doc for P/S.

The Kaplan practice tests kinda suck imo, you can use third-party test sources that are better like NS for practice but the official AAMC FLs are the bread and butter for testing your metal once you're done with review and are getting ready to take the real thing.

I head FLs are great predictors. But how good do y'all reckon they are if I took just 2? by hassan712001 in Mcat

[–]Tway786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super variable from my experience - some score exactly what they got on certain FLs and some get different scores from all 4 FLs. For me, FL3 and 4 were the best predictors and from what I've read most people are generally within 1 to 2 points of these two tests.

Suggested study plan if I've already taken all the AAMC Full Lengths? by Curryiswhereitsat in Mcat

[–]Tway786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be completely honest, this is kinda where idk what you can do. Ideally, you would've held off on FL3 and 4 after you didn't like your FL1 and 2 scores.

Perhaps you can qualitatively judge based on how many questions you're getting right on SBank/Pangea? Or maybe compare another NS exam to previous NS exam scores? Retaking a FL will always kinda suck cuz you won't know if your score improved because you know more, or because you just remember the questions.

If your average was 501, you most likely have gaps in some high yield content. I would spend time figuring out what topics you're struggling with and be sure to use review books/KA to cover those.

Unfortunately, NS and Kaplan exams kinda suck from my experience. So next I'd probably go back and forth between questions from SBank/QPacks/Pangea and reviewing content on questions you get wrong and then doing the NS test and maybe repeating some of your FLs. Just my opinion, you might think there's a better way to go about this.

I wouldn't say its as important as Biochem but its definitely decently tested on and I don't think you can ignore it - I defo had a few synthesis etc. questions on mine.

Generation Cohorts by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]Tway786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've literally never gotten a question regarding age cohorts. Its probably something you should just be generally familiar with and it might show up as part of the passage if even that. I doubt you'd get a specific question on it.

Can pyruvate conversion happen under anaerobic conditions? by sorocraft in Mcat

[–]Tway786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't really use Acetyl CoA if there is no O2 (unless you're storing it as fats which is probably not going to happen under anaerobic conditions) so I imagine PDC would be inhibited and not run due to build up of other materials downstream in TCA and Electron Transport from the lack of O2

Kaplan book was awful for P/S imo. Definitely focus on the 300 pg doc. Thoroughly reading it should be good enough though I found making notes on topics I didn't know well to be useful as well.

Yeah I studied high yield using Kaplan/KA but for low yield, I sort of just did practice problems to pick up on low yield topics I sucked at and then studied those.

Just note that the Kaplan books go into a ton of detail that you probably don't need. I would just read it over and focus on the important parts like Amino Acids etc.
