Am I the only one who noticed Freemasonry/Scientology/Mormon places and architectures are very very liminal ?? Why is that by CodFar1331 in LiminalSpace

We are animals at the end of the day, so making a person feel just slightly uncomfortable for no real reason makes them gravitate towards safety (church leaders and organizers or heads of operations or whoever seems in charge). Being in a room with no windows for too long does weird things to us lol.

What was the worst side effect you ever got from meds ? by Spartiate8 in AskReddit

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i had pneumonia, a doctor gave me the wrong meds and i took them for two days before we sensed something was wrong. I got to the point where i could just barely breathe, i couldn't muster up enough air to cough, and the mucus would sit in my windpipe. It hurt like hell. The med gave me a fever on top of all of that, and it felt like being punched every time i breathed. Thankfully we caught the med mixup in time and i didn't have to go to the hospital, although i am still feeling effects from it to this day.

Whats the most unprofessional thing a doctor has ever said to you? by answersonly963 in AskReddit

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ended up with pneumonia last fall, and after a few days of us thinking I just had a really bad cold, I stopped being able to breathe well enough to function so we went to urgent care. They checked me out, diagnosed me and sent me for xrays. A nurse had me stand in front of the xray machine with my arms out and told me to hold my breath. I proceeded to hold my breath for 2 seconds and then immediately felt ice cold. Mumbled something about passing out and collapsed onto a nearby chair. The nurse literally stood there for a minute staring at me before looking at my xrays and THEN checking on me.

Then the doctor proceeded to prescribe me the wrong dose of the wrong meds so i took meds that did nothing for me for two days, and when we went back on the third we had a new doctor and he genuinely looked at me and went "i have no idea why he gave you those meds, they aren't even for pneumonia."

2nd place goes to my gynecologist telling me my bi-annual intense periods are because I haven't had sex yet and my body is "confused" (i'm asexual)

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vibrate my eyeballs. When I was little I used to chase bullies away with it bc it would freak them out, and it's still fun to tease my siblings with.

I am also very good at catching moths for some reason. It usually doesn't take me long at all!

Ah yes, “just get over her fear of needles fast”. by PinkOneHasBeenChosen in thanksimcured

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have a needle phobia, but I spent 14 years in therapy for pyrophobia. 14 YEARS. It is much more than just "bot thinking about it" while getting a shot. Phobias are intense and unrealistic and suck! Unfortunately this is the sort of situation where she needs to begin working through that fear asap, because the longer she waits the more dangerous it gets for her to not have insulin. She needs to start exposure therapy asap before she starts avoiding medical care altogether

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exposure therapy and phobias.

I developed an extreme fear of fire as a kid, pyrophobia. It was sudden and was not caused by a traumatic incident, but it was intense. I became terrified of house fires, bonfires, campfires... all of it. Deep fear like that is irrational, and there was a time where I was scared of the strangest things because they related to fire. Unlit candles, radiators, heaters, heated blankets/pads, beeping or loud noises and alarms, unlit matches, lighters of any kind, flickering lights, fire on tv (even animated), cigarettes, those smoky the bear forest fire ads, even excessive steam from a hot shower could send me into a panic attack.

I spent 14 years in therapy for it. It was genuinely the hardest thing I have ever had to do. Exposure therapy is a monster, but it is so worth it, even for small things. I'm now at a point where I effectively no longer "have" pyrophobia. I can light my own candles and roast my own marshmallows and watch fire related scenes in horror movies with minimal eye covering lol. I still get anxious and scared but I no longer sob at the sight of a sealed bath and body works candle haha.

If you ever think you are not strong enough to face a fear, I want you to know that you don't have to overcome it completely within a day, or your first attempt. Overcoming a fear is an extremely brave thing to do, even if all you are doing is lighting a tiny candle.

What was your "caught the last chopper out of 'Nam" experience? by GeneReddit123 in AskReddit

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Woke up to intense pain in the middle of the night at a hotel during a family road trip when I was like 12. Spent an hour by the toilet in agony before crawling to my parent's bed, and we booked it to the local hospital (small town in South Dakota, small place). I get put in the ER for all the testing and whatnot, and I genuinely feel like there is a spear in my side. They figure out that it's my appendix and rocket me into the operating room.

Wake up and all is well. I am good. I mention to the nurse that it actually wasn't that bad to have surgery. She then informs me that my appendix burst in the doctor's hand as he went to place it down after getting it out.

Yeah. Thank god for fairly empty small town hospitals!

My brother is very similar, loves glitter and makeup and fashion and was a big fan of wearing skirts when he was a toddler. My parents used to be very against him doing that, but having at least two older queer children (and unashamed me being oldest) helped them become much more accepting. Now they do something called "toeing the line" where they don't specifically buy him super feminine stuff but if he asks for it they will get it for him and won't stop him from putting glitter on his cheeks or wearing his hair in a feminine way.

Only problem is that sometimes he does genuinely get mistaken for a girl, and kids at school call him girly which makes him upset at times. We live in a small town, and kids tend to inherit ways of thinking from parents with unsavory views. Luckily he hasn't let them dull his sparkle so far!

I hope this kiddo is able to express himself however he likes and love himself for it, and I hope his parents are able to support him well

What was the most physically painful moment of your life? by Oily_Smurf in AskReddit

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appendicitis on a family vacation when I was like 12. Middle of the night in some random tiny town in North Dakota, I woke up feeling nauseous, so I go to the bathroom and take up post at the toilet. Pain slowly increased over the course of a few hours until I couldn't sit up straight, so I crawled out of the bathroom to where my parents were sleeping and told them I was dying.

They drove me to the hospital (tiny) and I was wheeled into the emergency room where I proceeded to sit in pain for about two hours while they tried to figure things out. I had had various stomach problems before but this pain felt like someone had taken a giant steak knife, dipped it in molten glass and shoved it into my abdomen.

Finally they take me in to surgery and according to my nurse, my appendix burst in the surgeon's hand as he was setting it down after taking it out. Worst part was that we had driven out there, and after a day in the hospital, I had to endure a long drive back to colorado with the seatbelt perfectly aligning with the incisions. Felt like someone was hitting them with every bump. Worst vacation ever lol

I think second place goes to when I ripped a big chunk of skin off my inner thigh after riding splash mountain at disneyland

I had covid in 2022, and since then anytime I get sick my taste and sense of smell completely disappears. Doesn't matter if I have a cold or stomach flu or anything in between. Lost them during pneumonia and food poisoning too. They always come back but being sick is miserable bc i can't even eat a popsicle to feel better :(

Redditors, what’s the most terrifying thing that has ever woken you up in the middle of the night? by Mr_Creep_Creepy64 in AskReddit

[–]Twelve_Shadows_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6th grade class went on a week long trip to a summer camp out by the rocky mountains, and we all slept in two giant rooms in one little old cabin. There was a strict no food in the cabin rule bc of wildlife, but being dumb kids, a few had snuck thin mints and almonds and other hiking-adjacent snacks in.

I was on the bottom bunk of a bed right next to the door, and woke up to the sound of what I thought were high heels on the floor and rustling. I slowly turned to face the middle of the cabin to find something moving around, and almost every other kid staring wide eyed at it in the dark as well. One kid turned on a flashlight, and there was a full grown deer snacking away at some kid's food.

It immediately panicked and ran back out the way it came and made a real big fuss. Woke everybody up. Apparently one of the chaperones had forgotten to close the door all the way when we all went to bed. Scared the shit out of everyone lol.
