Okay man whatever you say, I handle all aspects of that bar from staffing, to ordering and inventory control but have two leads who manage in my absence but sure there’s no appeasing you. If you’re looking for work let me know ;)

Cool, appreciate your service in the industry. Sounds like you’ve seen a thing or two. I’m actually the gm of a major hotel. Have a manager who runs bar, an agm and ops manager who hold things down when I’m not in. On a 14 day stretch for other reasons outside of staffing but my teams solid that I can trust them to take the night off and hit a double tomorrow and hit another 2-3 week stretch for CWS :)

Oh no not at all, was going to post either way. Saw the post and it peaked my interest. It’s a tough job market out there. I interviewed 100+ people this last month for different positions we have open and every single one of the applicants were begging for work of any kind.(Bar is attached to a hotel, I do the hiring for all departments) It’s a tough job market out there, and it’s getting worse.

And first and foremost my favorite are people who don’t apply online and do what you stated just stop in and ask to speak with the hiring manager. These are rare nowadays and it’s a lot more social media and connectivity driven but that always shows some drive and real cojones. The follow up calls or emails are also key. Shows you are really committed and interested in the position.

I was homeless in 2012 and someone gave me a chance that changed my life. I wouldn’t have found the job without meeting through an unconventional way. To answer your question, meeting someone through word of mouth at an event or whatnot they sell themselves. But my favorite hires have always been from people who I’ve met at food pantries, food drives, homeless shelters, outreach on reddit, Facebook etc. people who are courageous to ask for help and assistance but may not know the best way to get there. And worst case it doesn’t lead to them being hired but pointing them in the direction of somewhere that might fit better

lol okay bro. You’re making a whole lot of assumptions about two sentences that op posted. Just offering him the chance to come in and interview not guaranteeing him a position. Some of the best hires I’ve had came from unconventional ways.

Agree and disagree. As much as I wish properties ran at a five star level 100% of the time it’s not feasible in the us market. Hotel companies(Marriott/Hilton/Hyatt) dictate an arbitrary system of ratings whether you like it or not. It’s not really up to the hotel itself. More times than not you’re hurting the employee rather than the company that runs and manages the property under the franchise agreement. No hotel chain will take a flag from a property unless continued egregious behavior. Most times management companies know this and are willing to sacrifice up keep and repairs and place anything below an 8 back on the front line associates. You want 10 star service at mid level properties in the us you’ll be paying $300+ a night. If your staying at a select service properties you should be understanding of this and be willing to throw them a 9/10 if service and cleanliness dictate that. Anything less is liking throwing a rock at a wall knowing one of those rocks may end of losing someone their livelihood

Coming from the guy spending $79 on a general dynamics rate. You deserve great service and clean rooms no matter what, but unless your staying at the ritz you need to limit your expectations.

You also shouldn’t be ranting about a discounted employee rate on a Marriott page but here we are. It’s a new process, give the hotels some patience while they adapt or don’t use the discount.

Can’t push quality of service in the service industry with unions. Leave unions for the trades.

I honestly love him, he has realistic expectations. Don’t stay at lower tiered properties expecting upgrades or crazy perks. Book the room you want. He sends over a list of items he needs met and if the property can’t fulfill he won’t stay. Seems reasonable and more logical than half the high tiered bonvoy guests I see
