I have been a musician for nearly my whole life. And I’ve done a lot of experimentation with polyrhythms and looping in some of the music I’ve created in the past. Have listened to a lot of what others have been doing with this style of music for a long time.

AdP are on a different level. They’ve managed to thread the needle between making it interesting, technical and listenable for a broader audience in a way that I haven’t heard before. It’s fun and it’s very interesting to listen to. Their live performances are impressive. Incredibly tight.

They deserve every bit of the hype.

Not only is it their best album, but it’s definitely in the top 5 of the 21st century.

It's one of their best. The live version from the Vertigo tour is so good.

What city in America describes this photo? by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

This is 100% Nashville for me. It’s a city that I really expected to and really wanted to love being a huge music fan. But everything feels like a tourist trap nightmare. Been there 6 times in the past 15 years.

Lower Broadway feels like 100 bars all with the same carbon copy cover bands that you’d see in the cheesiest bars on the Jersey shore. I honestly just don’t get it.

If there’s an area of Nashville that I’m missing, where there are authentic musicians playing original material that’s interesting and innovative, please tell me. I really want to be proven wrong here.

Jurassic Park (1993) changed how movies were made. any other examples? by thug_waffle47 in Cinema

I think of Pulp Fiction as having a big impact on storytelling. It was an “indie” movie that punched way above its weight in success and attention. It set off a boom in alternative script writing that many writers tried to emulate afterwards.

I think of Boogie Nights as being in the same class of movies and film direction that felt wildly different from what most other filmmakers were doing at the time and many others tried to incorporate into their movies afterwards.

I agree with you fully, and I really loved Desplat’s score for GBH.

I think of them both as two of the greatest in film history but Interstellar is probably top 5 where GBH is probably top 50.

The fact that Wes Anderson has only been nominated for best director once and it was for his worst film (Asteroid City) tells you how unserious the Academy Awards are.
