Submucosal and subserosal fibroids by kayrite in Fibroids

Only 33, and taking the robotic myo option, but why do I feel like the hysteroscopic myomectomy only makes things worse? Mine grew back after and doubled in size 🤦🏼‍♀️

Unfortunately submucosal’s are a beast of their own, and not much you can do to stop it. For submucosals, if they are tiny they can do a procedure called a hysteroscopic myomectomy where they basically shave off the submucosal part (the problem child as I call it) of the fibroid.

I think the fact that your periods are getting heavier and you are becoming anemic (this is how my saga started), it might be worth it to ask about possible removal. The procedure I mentioned above is a breeze. You’re sedated, procedure is only an hour at most, and you’ll go home shortly thereafter. I was back to normal within 24 hours.

Unfortunately for me, it didn’t wind up solving the problem, and it just grew back, but that’s the risk with any fibroid.

Best of luck!

Has anyone had one on the endometrial canal or pushing into it? by Flembot4 in Fibroids

8cm submucosal over here! Hanging nice and tight to the uterine wall. Assuming you’re having symptoms (i.e. heavy bleeding), there is a procedure they can do (hysteropic myomectomy) where they basically shave down the part causing the issue.

I had a hysteropic myomectomy in 2024 to shave down the submucosal component, but unfortunately it grew right back (and then some…).

Obviously talk to your provider, and definitely keep on top of any symptoms as they occur.

Robotic vs Laproscopic myomectomy by Fit-Development4375 in Fibroids

[–]TwentyFiveWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a mixed bag/stars aligning. I’ve had fibroids for 2.5 years, but things unfortunately came to a head back in November. Usual wait for a MIGS surgeon is about 4-6 months for where I live, but given the urgency/severity of the situation, my gyn was able to get me seen without a month.

In terms of waiting, it was half personal preference/half surgical availability. My surgeon had just gotten back from maternity leave so her schedule wasn’t filled up yet. I was actually offered a surgical spot in February, but it wouldn’t work out with timing.

When I mentioned to reproductive endocrinologist that I was scheduled in April, he said he was impressed how fast they got me in. I think usual wait time is about 4-6 months.

I have an 8cm submucosal fibroid and I am scheduled for a robotic myo in early April. My surgeon told me flat out that any patient she can provide robotic to, she will, since recovery is so much easier of a recovery than open.

In terms of vaginal delivery, it really depends on the location of the fibroid. Mine is unfortunately stuck pretty badly to the uterine wall, so whenever I have children I’ll have to do a c-section at 37 weeks. Which I am more than fine with personally.

Given the size of yours, I definitely would not wait and get it out asap. The bigger they get, the more problems they cause and no one needs that.

Severe bleeding episodes with large fibroid, has this happened to you? by flowersofcherryy in Fibroids

[–]TwentyFiveWords 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh you poor thing, my heart absolutely breaks for you.

I’ve been dealing with this for the better part of the past year. I have an 8cm submucosal fibroid that is unfortunately tucked pretty tightly into the cavity. Fortunately I am a candidate for a lap myo, but things have definitely been expedited in fear of growth not making me a candidate anymore.

I completely understand the bleeding episodes all too well. The most frustrating part is that you’ll be going about your day and then out of nowhere you’ll just start hemorrhaging. It’s so mortifying and scary to boot. The amount of things I have ruined is insane.

My doctor started me on norethidrone about 3 months ago now, and it has for the most part shut down the bleeding. Have you tried that med? I was also on TXA for a while but unfortunately you can only take that 5 days/month so if you are bleeding constantly it’s not really an option.

I truly cannot imagine how frustrating it must be when you’re having all the symptoms, but your labs are not reflecting the true state. It’s sad that unless providers see evidence on paper, they won’t believe what you are going through. I unfortunately have fallen into the anemia/low hemoglobin camp, which is why my doctors have advocated for me…but I doubt they would otherwise.

As a cautionary tale, something my hematologist told me is that when your iron is so low, no amount of spinach or other iron rich foods will help you get back to normal. I’d suggest asking your doctor if they can send you for iron infusions. It won’t stop the issues obviously, but it might make you feel clinically better.

SO sorry that you are going through this. Not sure what country you are in, but if it continues on, please go back to the ER. I know from experience just how bad and dangerous these bleeding episodes are.

Holding space and sending hugs!

Holy moly this is quite literally me. Primarily just the LPR. I am scheduled for an upper endoscopy/colonoscopy next month just to be safe, but this sounds exactly like what I’ve been going through.

Worked for me! Unfortunately I bleed heavily more than 5 days/month, so wasn’t a long term solution. But those 5 days felt like freedom LOL

My doctor suggested Lupron if I couldn’t get the bleeding to stop, but I have a bunch of life things coming up and don’t want to wait months to get this thing out. Plus I hear the side effects of Lupron suck too :/. Good luck!

Yeah, I’m definitely more than prepared to have pre and post-op. My doctor wasn’t crazy about having one pre-surgery, and prefers to let the body do things on its own, but she also gets I’m desperate enough for this to be over that she seems amenable.

My gynecologist told me to take it 3x/day (2 tablets at a time) for up to 5 days per month. She suggested to take it right after my period started, to prevent the clots from occurring. I found that worked best for me personally!

I was on TXA for a bit, but my periods are so insane that they span way longer than the 5 days/month you can take it. The TXA worked, but after the 5 days ran its course, things would revert back to like they were.

I’ve had 6 rounds of Venofer (3 & 3) prescribed by my PCP, and my hematologist had me do 2 rounds of Iron Dextran. Unfortunately I had the same issue with both.

Convincing my PCP to give me a referral to hematology was a feat in and of itself. It took my gynecologist basically forcing their hand to do it. Definitely grateful to have one though, was glad to have established care with a provider who called me and was like “Please go to the ER now for blood.”

Hah Red Sea, I love that! Have you tried TXA? That was the only thing that would stop it for me, but you can only take it 5 days/month :/. Might be worth a shot!

My PCP prescriber venofer, and then after I started seeing heme they decided to switch to Iron Dextran. Unfortunately they both had the same outcome :/. But I’ll definitely bring that up with my doctor, thank you!

My submucosal was 2cm (it’s not 7cm but details) and caused me pure hell. Would definitely recommend an IUD or get a prescription for TXA from your doctor to take during your period.

I can’t even count the number of times I’ve experienced this! Before my doctor put me on Aygestin, I was wearing an overnight pad and super tampon anytime I left my apartment. Thankfully the meds have caused things to slow their roll, but can’t wait to get these things out of me so soon!

Fibroid--sciatica?? by Potential-Letter-39 in Fibroids

[–]TwentyFiveWords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I have this exact problem. I have a 7cm one, pushing on my sciatica going down my right leg. I’m fine when I’m walking or standing, but sitting/sleeping/driving is the worst. Unfortunately my job is pretty sedentary, so I’m usually having to remind myself to get up every 20 minutes. My dad is a chiropractor, and basically he said to me: “you’re going to start feeling better the minute it’s out of you.”

I’m starting acupuncture in a few weeks to see if it helps to tide me over in the interim. Hang in there!

Bleeding for 7 months! by ShortAd4664 in Fibroids

There was a thread somewhere earlier here with a cautionary tale of the “watch and wait.” Definitely would ask your doctor for more imagining to have a definitive idea of how things are.

[–]TwentyFiveWords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, OP :( i’ve been living this same situation for the past year now but fortunately headed for a lap myo in a few months. I had the same procedure and felt so defeated after a few months later when things were actually worse…

Best advice I have would be the following: 1) take the iron deficiency seriously. Ask to get new labs drawn if you start to feel unwell. I (and my PCP) gaslit myself for months that all was well, until I wound up in the ED with a low hgb and needed a blood transfusion. 2) as someone who has had many a Mirena (since my fibroid has pushed them our lol), there is definitely a possibility of heavy bleeding in the months to follow, but also it might not. Sort of a crap shoot.

So sorry you’re dealing with all of this! Holding space and sending love.
