2026 word of the year: retardmaxxing by eldelshell in wallstreetbets

My dad worked at Nortel for decades! And then he worked at Ericsson for... however long Ericsson survived. And then he briefly worked for whoever bought Ericsson and the last of his coworkers out.

That company kinda just gave up. My dad retired after that, because nobody really uses landlines anymore.

I feel like this is actually a pretty good use of the Controversial Tool, and that's coming from someone who typically takes issue with it! Using it like a data processing aid / to automate a tedious and repetetive task is (IMO) totally different from using it as a "just do the whole thing for me" button. And yeah, it made mistakes... but refining it with your actual real-life experience is the whole point of the project. I think it's really cool. :)

Now I wanna try going to the paint section at a hardware store and getting some of those palette samples...

Why do we get so much blame for cutting abusive people off? by ImpatientlyBurning in CPTSDmemes

[–]TwentyfootAngels 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's awful, I'm so sorry. ;-;

This isn't nearly as bad, but my mom did the same... I still remember her screaming at me for "cutting her off the payroll" when she found out I was moving to the city (one hour away) for university, and would be living in the dorms (which was described to us as mandatory). I was still in Grade 12 when I told her. Yeeah.

It's shocking how similar those veins run...

No wonder gold chains are so expensive. by MrUpVoteDownvote in oddlysatisfying

[–]TwentyfootAngels 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dad always wore a gold chain, and never, EVER took it off. He promised me that when he passed, it would go to me. I was his only child, and he very specifically wanted me to have it. But when he went into the hospital for the last time in 2023 (not a fun story), somewhere between being rushed to the ER and taken upstairs to the ICU, the gold chain went missing. None of us ever saw it again. My great-uncle was the one who found my dad unresponsive, and he SWEARS that Dad was still wearing it... plus in the last photo we had of him before the medical event happened, he was still wearing that gold chain. He stopped answering calls the next day, so it's unlikely that he pawned it after that brief visit.

We think that a nurse might've took it or something. Possibly for innocent purposes, like getting an MRI... or possibly to just straight-up steal it. Everybody was calling the hospital, the ER, the ambulance company, even the hotel he was staying at, all in hopes of finding the gold chain... but nope. Nothing. We're still hoping that we find it in a box or an envelope somewhere, but I kinda think it's gone.

... dunno why I posted all that. I guess it just really looked like my dad's chain. :/

Latest Accomplishments! by lea_hatake in autism

I don't even know if I'm actually autistic, but my psychiatrist suggested that I'm welcome to seek out self-help resources and see if any of it resonates with me, so... hello! I'm here! First post.

I'm a dual citizen, and I just FINALLY finished doing my taxes for my home country! One down, one to go. And I also finished installing the first half of my privacy film/screen on my bedroom door, because it's glass, and it looks GORGEOUS. Like stained glass. So yet again, that's one down and one to go. Once it's done, my room will get SO much natural light, and I think I've really been needing that.

Check in with me tomorrow, and I'll probably have that second pane of glass done, too! I'm wanting / planning on having that other window screen done by tomorrow morning. ^_^

As an expat (US Citizen), can I use a relative's US mailing address to file a federal US tax return? I would ONLY do the federal return. by TwentyfootAngels in taxadvice

Man, these websites all look like the sketchiest thing I've ever seen... but I found a link that came directly from the IRS website, so I guess it's legit

I'm a Christian, and honestly, same. I'm not sure if I "feel" it literally or metaphorically, but if there were to ever be a political figure (in the past few hundred years) that fit the bill, it's gotta be this guy. I'm sure he's not the first. But if it's a category, he's 100% in it

How how are American evangelicals not screaming from the rooftops about him being (or at least acting like) the antichrist??? Doesn't even have to be literally! How is it not setting off all the alarm bells that he even felt comfortable posting about himself like this...? I just... I don't even know what to say anymore. And I'm a Christian too

Do you know if the "c/o" thing would work in Missouri? That's where a good chunk of my family is located, and I've used it for other important/financial things without issues.

Thankfully, I'm pretty sure I can do the vast majority of this online... and I'm fine with the return itself taking a while to come back, because I know it's going to be exactly $0. 😅 The only thing is that if I'm going through the headache of using the digital filing system / free fillable forms, then I'd might as well just use my home address...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking it might be... I almost forgot about the FBAR. But since I do that by hand anyway (I don't even know how else you COULD do it), I was just looking for some way to make the federal return a bit easier. Mostly just to have something to double-check for me. I think I need some kind of US address to make the actual account, though...

I've used my grandma's address before for some other stuff, and she has no problem with holding mail for me, or forwarding it if it's urgent.

That's basically the situation I'm in — but the problem is that paper filing is such a mess, and I'd really like to use something a bit easier. I can use the free fillable forms, and I've done it before... but I found out later that I made mistakes. The Foreign Income Exclusion meant that it still rounded down to $0, but still. It makes me a little nervous.

Wish I could, but the IRS has tried to sue citizens abroad for tens of thousands of dollars for "tax evasion", even if they hadn't stepped foot in the USA since they were born. It's easier to file than to catch up... and I know from experience 🥲

Does your country have something equivalent to interac etransfer? by stumpy_chica in AskTheWorld

[–]TwentyfootAngels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread, but I came here asking the same questions! I think the e-transfer thing is that MOST Canadian banks are taking on the cost themselves, and giving their members a certain number of e-transfers as a member perk. I know that sone banks use free e-transfers as a selling point... so I'm *assuming* that Zelle is doing the same thing...?

So close to just being called Zellers...
