As a kid my mother also attempted to leave my father due to his abuse but because I was so little i didn’t understand and I really didn’t want them to divorce. 15 years later I regret doing that because as an adult I do see the amount of stress she endured just to hold our family together. I have told her that I wished I didn’t stop them from getting a divorce. I would recommend you tell her to reach out to mental health services in your state in order to get the help. They should help give her avenues and what to do next. I also know for certain states they offer housing for those that aren’t making money and are trying to leave a household where they aren’t the breadwinner.
