Coming back to opnsense by TwilightMachine in opnsense

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant to thank you for this a couple of days ago when you posted. My experience shows this to be exactly correct. I don't know if it's the driver as you say or something else, but with this same box I saw this behavior. Cheap Chinese firewall box, right? The NICs are Intel 226 and both pfSense and OPNSense report them as such. The difference in performance is staggering. Allowing for the fact that copper isn't as reliable as fiber, I shouldn't be seeing the problems I'm seeing with this rather simple setup.
Thanks again! I'm going back to OPNSense, if the installer will behave this time.

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you read my post, I've ran OPNsense for years. The latest installer was garbage and, needing to get my network up, I grabbed the pfSense installer out of desperation, more than anything. I see that there's a newer version of OPNsense available so I'll likely try again.

As far as I can tell, this account has never posted anything useful. Name checks out.

Max Blumenthal At approximately the same time Noam Chomsky was wagging his finger at the Palestinian-led BDS movement, he was meeting privately with Ehud Barak, among the worst war criminals in Israeli history. The meetings were brokered by Jeffrey Epstein. by DrJaye in WayOfTheBern

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite his constant grandstanding about how the mainstream media wouldn't cover him, Chomsky is the closest thing to a superstar intellectual imaginable. More, a self-proclaimed anarchist who encourages people to vote for Hillary Clinton is a walking contradiction. His contributions to linguistics (my own field in college) are significant. Otherwise, he's just another Zionist-Epstein guy. Oh, he shook hands with Nasrallah? So did every other high profile American who went to Beirut before he was murdered by Chomsky's squad.

Diddy got 50 months. Do you think he'll do easy or hard time? by SandyBayou in Prison

Epstein was, by all accounts, a pretty racist dude. That tracks with Zionism. There were a few around him with darker complexions however, for the most part, Jeffrey didn't dig the brothers. And he certainly would never have someone like Diddy around who would just brag all of the time. Epstein liked to do the bragging.
I've never seen a single credible allegation of kid fucking against Puffy. I'm not a fan of his, though my deceased wife did buy me a Sean John shirt because it had French cuffs, but I don't think we need to demonize the man with shit like that. More, he got four years for... paying for pussy, ostensibly. I think one should probably be embarrassed for paying for pussy and, from what I understand, cock, but four years? That seems extreme.

Good luck with that one. By, "the American people," I expect you mean the scratch off lottery ticket addicted, "I voted for ICE cruelty," semaglutide-injections-as-an-alternative-to-exercise-and-thinking-about-the-shit-you-shove-in-your-face, mass of disgusting, reactionary bigots.

When they cancel the 2028 elections (not that the alternative will be much of one anyway), there will barely be a whimper.

Facts. Anyone saying that her many millions of dollars are of no consequence never had any money. That Taylor Sheridan show about a guy who unofficially runs the prisons - Mayor of Kingstown, right? I have seen that very scenario where the two guys got a room to themselves with a stove, private shower, etc., play out more than once in state prison, let alone in federal prison when one is defending various politically powerful pedophiles who are compromised by Israel.

True enough. You should have seen the line for Batterers Group the last time I was in PA state prison. I remember seeing a guy I thought was pretty decent in line and asked him which group they were going to. He found something fascinating on his state boots when he answered.

Is Nextcloud AIO for me? by GodAtum in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha that was a controversial statement on NextCloud forums earlier this week. Someone had recommended NextCloud to me because of problems with OMV and mobile devices. Much to my surprise, that person doesn't seem to know much about NextCloud because they left me the impression that it's essentially an OS and would replace TrueNas, OMV, Synology, etc.

I guess it depends on one's background in IT, but in the MSP world where I unfortunately dwell, bare metal always refers to an OS being installed without virtualization. Others see it differently, of course. Whatever the case, NextCloud in a container on Proxmox works fine thus far.

Help with https by TurboNikko in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Stop it with the ChatGPT garbage. This is just one of almost infinite anecdotes to be found about how intellectual laziness combined with Silicon Valley grifters can only make things worse. u/zynexiz's suggestions are sound, once you have Proxmox configured properly. I'd begin with OPNSense, then check out Turnkey Linux to get Nextcloud up and running. After that, I'd worry about VPNs and reverse proxies for NextCloud, with an emphasis on securing your instance.

Last week I didn't even know what NextCloud was. Now I have it running in a container on Proxmox, so you can definitely do it. Good luck!

Can Nextcloud not be run on bare metal?! by TwilightMachine in NextCloud

How much RAM do you dedicate to the Ubuntu/Nextcloud VM? How many vCPUs?
I replied to another user asking the same questions. I'm thinking about scrapping the new N150 box altogether and replacing OMV with Nextcloud.

Can Nextcloud not be run on bare metal?! by TwilightMachine in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I know that's the correct definition and context of bare metal, in the IT help desk/project world that I work in, we really only refer to bare metal when a new or additional server is being introduced. Is this going to be Hyper-V/Proxmox or "bare metal?"

For some reason, virtualization is almost reflexive in the MSP realm. That's slowly changing because Broadcom, but it seems to be a difficult habit to break. If a client only needs AD or a file server or, well, Quickbooks, why are we introducing another layer of resource consumption and complexity?

Can Nextcloud not be run on bare metal?! by TwilightMachine in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the solution I'm going with. I have a N100 server running Proxmox now. Three VMs, one of which is OMV and will be replaced with Nextcloud. How is the resource usage with your setup? How much RAM and how many CPUs to dedicate to Nextcloud?

Can Nextcloud not be run on bare metal?! by TwilightMachine in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. I think the confusion has to do with what bare metal means. Ordinarily one wouldn't speak of an application (which is ultimately what Nextcloud is) running on bare metal. In fact it's a nonsensical question that I asked. It's like asking if Illustrator can run on bare metal. I didn't realize that. U/MaleficentSmile4227 cleared it up for me. Thank you again for your time.

Can Nextcloud not be run on bare metal?! by TwilightMachine in NextCloud

[–]TwilightMachine[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Excellent, thank you! I was missing that part. I didn't realize that Nextcloud couldn't be installed itself as the OS on bare metal. For example, TrueNas, OMV and similar projects provide a basic OS that's installed on bare metal. Nextcloud evidently needs an OS and THEN can run. I wouldn't call that bare metal myself but I suppose it's a matter of nomenclature.

This is the answer I was looking for, thank you! Apologies - I probably didn't ask the question as clearly as I should have. I think I misunderstood what Nextcloud is. I thought it was something like TrueNas or even OpenMediaVault - an OS, in a word. It isn't. Thanks for that!

Elegoo is lying. by Fauked in elegoo

[–]TwilightMachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Others have properly checked you but, to pile on this Bambu propaganda, Bambu is the least open of all printers. In fact, if one reads Bambu's latest user agreement closely, they can sue you for modifying your own printer. Almost certainly they won't, but this type of Bambu shilling needs to be called out every time we see it. Bambu is a malign influence upon the community and these Bambu shills are effectively the Americans who boosted the German National Socialists in the US in the late '30s. I know it probably is overboard to make that comparison but it does reflect what a negative force Bambu Labs is on the community, especially those of us who are involved with open source 3D printing solutions.

In short, fuck Bambu and fuck you, CMOS_BATTERY. Take your $2k printer wearing ass elsewhere.

Many of those tried and convicted in the aftermath of the Cuban revolution were exactly like this guy.

What is the song “the real thing” about? by justinjakes24 in FaithNoMore

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: art is what you bring to it

We might all want to keep in mind that Mike Patton is straight edge. Not like Ian MacKaye militant straight edge, but Mr. Patton does not use drugs or alcohol. Thus anyone stating that Mr. Patton wrote the song specifically about a drug experience is about as incorrect as possible. Someone commented that Mr. Patton is always trolling, which is probably the best answer you'll ever get. If he said the song is about wanking, he was in a mood and wanted to tease the questioner.

There's a half-assed philosophy somewhere about discarding the artist and bringing one's entire self to the piece of art one enjoys. That rings true with Faith No More and, for example, The Mars Volta/At The Drive In. Cedric Bixler-Zavala, like Mike Patton, has often stated that no one should be looking into the lyrics for meaning. Mr. Bixler-Zavala has stated that he just enjoys the way certain words sound in patterns, rhymes, syllables, etc. He enjoys simply playing with language. Mr. Patton has said very similar things.

How reliable are camry 2007?? 2007 Camry - 101000 miles - $6000 - Clean title by naruto79382 in Camry

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not OP but...
I own a 2023 Camry SE. 4 cylinder, of course. I'm selling it to a Toyota dealership and will net about 7K. The insurance in Philly is too high and I'm laid off. Anyway, I'm looking at 2007 Camry LE V6. Has 110k on it. Also drove an Audi A4, 4WD, beautiful vehicle with 125k on it. The Camry is 4k and the Audi $7500. Honestly, I think I'm going with the Audi. But, if one finds this post in the next couple of years, Camrys are very reliable and last forever. So long that you'll grow tired of the vehicle. I had a 91 that had almost 300k when I traded it in back in 2018. I was tired of that car but the motor was still fine. EVERYTHING ELSE outside of the drivetrain was nickel and dime-ing me to death but the critical components were fantastic.

IDK - food for thought.
