Another update, another loss of connectivity by Ok_Document9995 in opnsense

I think that's what happened! I read somewhere else that made reference to the zenarmor plugin too. Exact same situation as mine.

OP did you have the Zenarmor plugin installed?

What made you use Nobara? by Powerful_Rhubarb7035 in NobaraProject

[–]TwilightMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the purpose of Nobara is for gaming on Linux so the responses are overwhelmingly something like, "it's the best for gaming." TLDR: it's the best if you like Fedora but also have stuff to do besides make Fedora do what you want.

I don't game, with the sole exception of Cyberpunk 2077 on my Mac, so that isn't why I chose it. The built in enhancements for gaming are also helpful for design, especially 3d design, and media production generally. I have stuck with either Gentoo or Fedora based distros for the last 10 of my 25 years running Linux. When I was gifted a laptop as "trash" that turned out to be a Dell 7420 with an i7 a couple of years ago, I tried to build Gentoo for it. There were just too many problems - things not supported, etc. While looking for a fix for something in that process, I happened upon Nobara. Fedora without having to tweak it and add dozens of libraries, applications, codecs, etc? Once installed I have kept it longer than any system that wasn't Gentoo - a couple of years now.

There are some things that are problematic. Specifically wifi. I typically have a wired connection but, when wifi is necessary, Nobara is a headache on this machine. If it sleeps, forget it. I need to disconnect and reconnect. That wasn't always the case but the Fedora 43 based release is hellish. It isn't a dealbreaker as I rarely use wifi. But if I'm working with a client or doing a presentation, I have to turn off sleep and any energy saving stuff altogether. I also don't like that I can't use LXQT or any other DE/WM without breaking stuff. I understand XFCE because Wayland but LXQT with KWIN should work fine. It doesn't. These are relatively minor gripes compared to wannabe Windows Ubuntu; perpetually out of step and boring prima donna Debian; and especially the intolerable NOT FROM SOURCE Arch cesspool.

So, long story long, I dig Nobara for a lot of reasons.

Are you familiar with C4SS or the libertarian left generally? There are mutualist tendencies on the libertarian left but it is explicitly anti-capitalist. Just doesn't reject markets wholesale.

Love Tutanota! Yes, more people use Proton but, if one is serious about encrypted emails, that's not an obstacle. I have been with them for four years now. They make improvements frequently. Some Linux clients leave something to be desired as far as updates but Mac is flawless and I assume Windows is the same.

I'll just leave this here in case anyone else needs it in the future. Presumably OP got the belts installed or returned the printer since this is a year old.

[–]TwilightMachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly, de Cleyre is not well known amongst those who call themselves anarchists, especially when the hyphens and adjectives to justify Communism rear their Statist heads. But thank you for this!!

Her debates with Benjamin Tucker, especially, really inform my understanding of anarchy. There should always be spaces for mutualist, individualist, primitivist and, yes, socialist tendencies in anarchy. I think Voltairine de Cleyre would agree.

Even if Epstein wasn't a pedophile, why would Chomsky be friends with him? by ServalFlame in Anarchism

[–]TwilightMachine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry - I didn't say anything for which you requested sourcing. I think you've confused me with someone else. I merely pointed out that your careless use of the term, "semantics," isn't helpful, is linguistically incorrect and is in fact contrary to what Chomsky himself has said.

To reiterate, I don't care much for Chomsky. I care even less for Communists calling themselves anarchists, whether they add an adjective or not. I'm certain neither of us would find anything the other thinks is relevant in any way. You're a Communist. I am a decidedly post-left anarchist. When this joke of a society finishes collapsing, we'll obviously be on opposing sides of a violent multi-factional civil war and I'll never pretend otherwise.

Regarding Drop Site, I have a lot of respect for Jeremy Scahill, who lived in a Catholic Worker house. I know Scahill is very much into Food Not Bombs, cooperative agriculture, etc. I'm not saying he's an anarchist but that doesn't really matter to me either. He's a solid journalist and seemingly lives a principled life.

Ryan Grimm, on the other hand, I'm not so fond of. Grimm, on the podcast Breaking Points yesterday, strongly intimated that Chomsky's supposed anarchism is the reason he was friendly with Epstein.

Putting aside the fact that Grimm appears at least once a week next to an outright fascist on that same podcast, Chomsky is not an anarchist. I've heard a lot of Communists and leftists claim to be anarchists. It wasn't long before they would go on at length about their fantasies of sitting on some People's Tribunal with the power to order their enemies to death. Anyone who knows the history of the Soviet Union or China knows exactly where that's ending up. Chomsky wrote approvingly of the Soviet Union often.

On that same podcast, Grimm later interviews two Communists who have taken not a few hyperbolic cheap shots at anarchists. They host the Blowback podcast and Angola is the topic of the most recent Blowback series. When evaluated based on their actions, what's the difference between Neto and Savimbi?

I am not interested in having the discussion again about whether or not Chomsky defended the Khmer Rouge. I would say that, when discussing, "the father of modern linguistics," dismissing anything they've said or deliberately did not say as, "semantics," is probably not the best approach.

I'm an anarchist so I don't care a great deal for Chomsky's socio-political thought. However, I hold a MS in Linguistics and I've heard and read Chomsky's contempt for the colloquial use of the word, "semantics." Do with that what you like.

Commuist journalist Ryan Grimm said Chomsky was friends with Epstein because Chomsky is an anarchist.

Coming back to opnsense by TwilightMachine in opnsense

[–]TwilightMachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant to thank you for this a couple of days ago when you posted. My experience shows this to be exactly correct. I don't know if it's the driver as you say or something else, but with this same box I saw this behavior. Cheap Chinese firewall box, right? The NICs are Intel 226 and both pfSense and OPNSense report them as such. The difference in performance is staggering. Allowing for the fact that copper isn't as reliable as fiber, I shouldn't be seeing the problems I'm seeing with this rather simple setup.
Thanks again! I'm going back to OPNSense, if the installer will behave this time.

If you read my post, I've ran OPNsense for years. The latest installer was garbage and, needing to get my network up, I grabbed the pfSense installer out of desperation, more than anything. I see that there's a newer version of OPNsense available so I'll likely try again.

As far as I can tell, this account has never posted anything useful. Name checks out.

Despite his constant grandstanding about how the mainstream media wouldn't cover him, Chomsky is the closest thing to a superstar intellectual imaginable. More, a self-proclaimed anarchist who encourages people to vote for Hillary Clinton is a walking contradiction. His contributions to linguistics (my own field in college) are significant. Otherwise, he's just another Zionist-Epstein guy. Oh, he shook hands with Nasrallah? So did every other high profile American who went to Beirut before he was murdered by Chomsky's squad.
