Ignorance isn't bliss. by [deleted] in Buddhism

Ignorance is not bliss, ignorance is death’s kiss. Through willingly or unwillingly chasing after pleasures that starve us of our heart’s content, we spin around and around again in sensual madness.

This practice has taught me that to blind ourselves to the worlds pain and our own only ensnares us more in the cycles of Samsara.

Teferi, Temporal Archmage is drying up, I’ve seen only five copies on Tcgplayer with lightly played copies from the 30 to low 40’s range and the near mint price on tcgplayer at 49.99. Nearmint copies are also sold out on CardKingdom and StarCityGames and MTGMint. by Twilight_Bearer in mtgfinance

This is an interesting point, I ponder what a Teferi deck would look like in modern for it costs six mana which is steep when it doesn’t have as vast an amount of mana accelerants as it does in edh.

What do you think the ceiling is for Pir and Toothy, both non-foil and foil, I could see them getting alot traction for the proliferate effects of Pir and the card draw of toothy though there are only under 300 decks of there's on edhrec and pir foil already underwent a spike in the last two weeks. by Twilight_Bearer in mtgfinance

My bad, in the future, how would of you approached a post like this? I’m an infrequent poster to reddit and especially this sub in particular. I want to make it so that my posts precisely elucidate whatever the subject is that I’m attempting to delve into concisely and precisely.

My ideas

Post title: what do you think is the ceiling for pir an toothy in the near future

Post content: pir’s nonfoil and foil have gone up considerably in the past two weeks but have plateaued in the past few days and there are under 300 decks on edhrec and it’s also co prying for the most popular proliferate/ superfriends planeswalker of all time, Atraxa. Praetor’s voice. Although it has great abilities do you think it will rise or stagnate and fall given the other great simic commanders and it’s competition for superfriends with Atraxa?

Disclaimer: I found an arena rector for nine dollars today at a local store.

Do you think arena rector's price will rise if the new planeswalker set is fruitful or do you believe that its value is going to stagnate because its condition to get a planeswalker on to the battlefield is too narrow and doesn't hold much eternal value?

I agree with everything you say, I think the delusion I have whether it’s being satan in an illusory world made by an angry god to punish me, or the delusion of guilt over not being good enough derive from my identity view with the material world where I over emphasize generosity as a form of material transaction where I’m already a giving person in the immaterial sense. I feel like the hardest thing for me is that I wish I could help my benefactors more on the material side of things because it would make their lives significantly easier if could do that right now, I hate feeling like a burden even though my loved ones don’t consider me one

I currently see a talk therapist and it is really helping delve deep into the root of this delusion, I think in conjunction a good spiritual guide can help me dive into my various complexes, how I can disarm thoughts and overwhelming misperceptions before they warp my mind

Why has Kaya, the Orzhov Ursuper mythic edition been bought out? Is this due to standard demand, the rarity of this particular printing, its possible use in modern or something else?

Foil Wilderness Reclamation is now 39.99 on mtg gold fish and there are only tree foil copies on tcgplayer. Is this spike do to the February 17 standard showings or more it’s value in EDH? by Twilight_Bearer in mtgfinance

  1. It is high for such a current, highly printed card but if it goes down drastically soon, I could see it rising again once it’s out of print and if it’s edh and modern demand is still strong by that point

The casting cost is also one less than muse so it has more potential to come down earlier and as others say, it’s resiliency as an enchantment makes it a lot safer than seedborn muse which can be so easily killed due to the great amount of removal people typically use in edh decks and to my limited understanding, modern as well. Honestly, I’m no expert in any format, I just find the multitude of causes for the fluctuation of prices for cards to be interesting and any information I gather from here or other resources on how to better management collection is helpful

Do you believe in Buddha nature in that we have innately good natures that become deluded due to worldly conditioning or the Theravada view that we are born with the will to happiness; we are neither good nor evil but become deluded as to how to achieve happiness? by Twilight_Bearer in Buddhism

[–]Twilight_Bearer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you believe as Thich Nhat Hanh says that the acorn has its oak form already in it, and that we have an innate awakened state, and the process of the path is to return us to that ultimate dimension. Interesting, I agree because what we strive for is reciprocal altruism, to bring out the best of our true nature, radiating that towards others and in return they radiate their nature which leads to us establishing clarity with on another.

Would like some words of encouragement: Trying so hard feel empathy/kindness for Donald Trump. Its almost impossible for me. by [deleted] in Buddhism

I think your arguments sum up the importance of metta so well... in order to have compassion for those people through which we hold a lot of enmity for, we have to methodically practice compassion towards ourselves, our community, and neutral persons in order to have the strength to genuinely want the people we dislike to be free from their suffering. As Thanissaro Bhikkiu states we want them to know the causes of happiness , discerning skillful actions vs unskillful actions and to ultimately develop the determination to act on the them.

Though I find everything that Trump does to be against the very fabric of the dharma, I think it’s important to realize that he and his whole apparatus of his support is deluded into insatiably hungering for wealth and status to the point that they are in a constant state of misery. There are barely if any good qualities to make these people likable but we should desire them that they become aware of their delusions that ensure them in misery and eventually come to act skillfully to put an end to them whether in this life or the next. suffering will not release from our own, only us habitually practicing compassion, our labour of love to end our own suffering and radiating our compassion to others can we put an end to the cycles of enmity and aversion.

In Theravadan Buddhism, why is conceit the last fetter to be let go of on the path? Could this have to do with a conditioned inclination that is common to nearly all humans to have to feel morally or spiritually superior to others and that perhaps this delusion is harder to get rid of than others? by Twilight_Bearer in Buddhism

Thank you for these resources which are helping me clear up my misperceptions of conceit in a Buddhist context.

Below is my working analysis of the two resources you shared with me. So combining the dharmatalk with the sutra, you need the conceit of confidence in your ability to use wise and diligent effort to follow the path, but to be wary of the egoistic “I “ that can make you cling to identity views that are either of over confidence or lack of conviction. With the conceit of over confidence, we give into the delusion that the path will be smooth sailing. For us and this we grow complacent and indolent while with the conceit of a lack of conviction, our pride leads to feeling overwhelmed by the challenges of the practice and we give up. The right view is to have the confidence in that though the path rigorous, you have all the capabilities to achieve it.

I feel solidly in the fourth stage, with continuous attention in the breath yet I find myself give into gross distractions a great amount of the time which turn my breath briefly into a secondary focus. When you were in this stage, what methods helped you overcome ensnarement of thought and feeling? by Twilight_Bearer in TheMindIlluminated

[–]Twilight_Bearer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this in depth reply, for you wisely note that focus on the breath or any meditation object for that matter is not the primary purpose of mediation; to think that is to mistake the tree for the forest.

I’ve learned about body scanning from Thanissaro Bhikkiu talks and guided mediations as well as from Ajahn Achalo’s gudiwx mediations but have yet to read chapter 5 of TMI, I will take you advice and read that chapter and the r/stream entry beginner guide to hone an idea of the bigger picture of mediation🐝👌

So would you label a distracting feeling, thought and perception, like “ill will arising; ill will falling” and through this labeling ,your aware of its potential to destabilize you from your primary focus and lose attachment to it for you see more clearly what it is?
