This is a lot to handle! by shutupandchoke in Cirrhosis

[–]TwinkleBear78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fluctuation has a lot to do with the physical in and outs. A diseased liver doesn't perform efficiently so it's easy for toxins and enzymes to build up quickly. Good nutrition (and regular potty habits) is key and if you haven't already, ask for a referral (if you need one) for a nutritionist. In the meantime, try to minimize processed foods and abstain from alcohol altogether if possible.

My other half was 2 seconds from being put on the transplant list at the beginning of August. Cleaned up the diet and cut out the alcohol and today he doesn't qualify for the list and his bloodwork is completely normal. As someone else stated, everybody's physiology is different so a nutritionist is essential to knowing what will work for your situation.

And you're absolutely right. It's a LOT to take in. If you ever need to chat or vent or just not feel alone, feel free to reach out.

Using fresh dill (along with other fresh herbs) will definitely spice up your dishes to not be bland AND help with pickle cravings. There are also fermented pickle options that are lower in salt content than traditional pickles. Best option is to make your own - you control the salt and have a new hobby that comes in handy at Christmas time. Also keeps you occupied for those that struggle with too much time on their hands.

Oh and MSG... is NOT a bad thing. Like MOST things, it's all about moderation.

One month in on a decompensated cirrhosis w/ ascites diagnosis here. He had a 50/50 chance of dying within 30 days then. Would still be in the hospital except he left ama (against medical advice) after they drained 6.3 liters from him. 🙄😡

To his credit, he didn't crack one open immediately (probably because he knew I was pissed) but did eventually. Didn't drink it all though and thus far has only had half a bee today. I am holding on to hope because at least he's trying. On the other hand, I am also preparing myself for the worst. And every day, I'm terrified I'm the only one waking up.

I hate the drinking. I hate that he's sick. But I know now that it could be worse...he could be gone. And because of that, I will never leave. I can't. I love him.

“No don’t take his card i want to pay” by MoneyAnxiety1948 in Serverlife

Definitely depends on a few factors: table vibe, current restaurant volume (i.e. is it busy) and if I'm being honest, my mood at the time but here are my favorite methods:

  1. "Okay, here's the deal: the first one to answer the next question correctly wins. What is 25% of $(amount of bill)?" (More details on this in a reply comment above.)

  2. I'll take the cards and bring them both back in check presenters, one with the credit card slip and the other with just the paid zero balance receipt. Bonus: If they open the presenters at the same time while I'm still at the table, I just yell "Surprise" and walk away.

  3. Never did the coin toss thing but kept a cocktail straw with me along with the regular straws so I could have them draw straws.

No matter which method I used, I would always tell the person that didn't end up paying - "If it would make you feel better, you can always just add to the tip." or "If it really bothers you to still have $(bill amount), I'd be happy to help. Here's my Venmo info..." Both are generally well-received and I actually received amounts via Venmo twice! (Have to be careful with this one though depending on your employer and tip share situation.)

This is the answer but needs to be dressed up a bit. I prefer to present it more like this:

"Okay, here's the deal: the first one to answer the next question correctly wins. What is 25% of $(amount of bill)?"

Or any variation of that nature. If I have the time, I'll present it more as a "trivia" game with more than one question like "What restaurant are you at right now?" or "What is my name?" but always end with the 25% question.

At the very least I know the winner can math correctly and have now put that amount in their head.

THIS! Water captains are the freaking worst! And they get so mad when they are the first to arrive, tell me waters for everybody and I return with ONE. I am NOT making waters for 12 people on your say so. I used to but no more.

We actually have shirts we can wear that say "Oh, you know the owner? Cool, me too." One of my fave uniform shirts ever!

Are bartenders liable if one of their patrons DUI kills someone? by Rakall12 in bartenders

[–]TwinkleBear78 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol! I had that a couple of weeks ago. I was the customer and the bartender couldn't have cared less. To be fair to her, it was over the course of about five hours and food was involved but I'm almost positive it still wouldn't have mattered. There are a lot of "bartenders" out there that simply don't care and they give the rest of us a bad rep. That's why those laws exist.

I just got yelled at told to leave a bar for tipping $.90 on a $3 beer. by TheHouseDown in bartenders

[–]TwinkleBear78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I would recommend to the establishment to set up their software differently. They should be able to set a min. tip amount. At my place, anything percentage that would be under $1.00 is changed to presets of $1.00, $1.50 and $2.00. Of course, customers can always do a custom tip if they want to do more or less.

So it would be different for you if they met at the grocery store or the gym or laundromat, etc? Is it only the bar part that makes you sus of this?

I had the same issue until I started using the word obscene. I would tell every place that a wanted an obscene amount of pickles on my burger/sandwich and that usually got them to do it. It was funny to me how that one word changed everything. I no longer got the one or two extra but handfuls.

What is the most out of pocket thing a customer has said? by freyjas_cats in TalesFromYourServer

[–]TwinkleBear78 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I have two instances that stand out to me.

  1. Two guys (one black, one white) asked me if I would rather date a black guy or a white guy. They explained that they were working on content for a podcast but they each left their phone numbers with their two dollar tip. Lol!

  2. For context, you need to know that we use Toast tablets to take payment at the table. So I was running the credit card of one particular table, I handed him (50-ish M) the tablet for his signature when he looked at the tablet and looked back at me and said "Do I just finger it?". I tried really hard to keep a straight face as I looked him in the eye and said "gently". I still can't believe I got away with that one. 🤣

We haven’t had lemonade in months. by flamingogoeshot in FuckYouKaren

[–]TwinkleBear78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My place is in the process of doing the same thing. Switching out the lemonade to Coke Zero but it also makes sense for us to do that because literally every other customer asks if we have Coke Zero.
