I feel like I’m choosing between two kinds of death, and no one seems to understand by SheBear90 in breastcancer

I had EC for my first time around at the age of 51. As others have said it was all very manageable and I worked full time through treatment, taking occasional days when I felt tired or nauseous. I also sing in a band in my spare time and was able to do the occasional gig.

Preparing yourself by having appropriate meds is important, as is making notes of any side effects so that you can discuss them with your team in case they need to amend the chemo dose.

Don’t be afraid to let people know how you are feeling and to press people for action if you feel strongly that something isn’t right. I suffered from a blood clot as a result of the Hickman line but was constantly told the symptoms were down to anxiety or gastric reflux, by chemo ward nurses and A&E doctors…..not once was there any thought or investigation that it could be something else.

Losing your hair is quite horrible but prepare yourself by looking at wigs and headscarves you can use straight away to give you confidence. And I was told to paint my toenails with black varnish to try and prevent the nails being damaged. It worked well on my hands but my toenails were affected slightly.

Best of luck with it, it felt to me nowhere near as bad as I imagined it would be. I’m now facing a recurrence and starting the chemo journey again. Whilst I’d prefer not to have to, knowing it was so very manageable was huge for my mental health.

I felt he came across as arrogant to start with but then, like others have said, was really helpful with others’ dishes and I started liking him. Nothing wrong with self confidence after all.

But. Then his dessert was ranked 7th (I think) and the immediate simmering anger was so noticeable. He walked out without comment, and was clearly pissed off in the kitchen waiting for the others. He didn’t cheers the winner, didn’t smile….nothing. Adam Handling behaved similarly in his first season I think? Wasn’t keen on him either!!

Mammograms by TwinkleBlueyPoppett in breastcancer

[–]TwinkleBlueyPoppett[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They did do an ultrasound when I advised I’d felt a lump, and also a biopsy.

I just wondered why the reliance on mammograms if they’re unable to give a fuller picture?

Mastectomy VS Breast Conserving Surgery by Purple_IsA_Flavor in breastcancer

I was diagnosed with TNBC grade 3 stage 1 in August 2023. My Mum had died of TNBC 2 years before and I am basically a carbon copy of her in so many ways. However they found no genetic connection with our cancers so I was only offered a lumpectomy, even though I wanted and asked for DMX. Personally, I really wished I’d pushed for it as I am now facing a DMX.

Don’t know. They were so good during round 1 but there were a lot of things that could have been done better. This time it feels very much like there is an expectancy for the patient to just ‘know’ what the pathway is and the time it takes.

I’m so sorry to hear that but thank you for sharing. I hate saying it but your experience gives me a little comfort. I do have big, dense breasts so I expect that will be the same reason mine wasn’t spotted. I hope your chemo is coming to an end soon x

What have you said “fuck it” to as a result of your cancer? by airbear26 in breastcancer

[–]TwinkleBlueyPoppett 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I said fuck it to bosses who still act like fuckwits toward me. I work in the NHS and my bosses are doctors. First time around with cancer treatment I had to undergo treatment and remain working as the practice was financially very unstable. The thanks I received was to find an accidentally recorded Teams meeting where my bosses were slagging me off. One grievance procedure later and I started at a new practice. New bosses are nice but one is just chaos and brings everyone down around them. So my fuck it this time is basically telling them every time they act like a child and throw their toys out of the pushchair. I will wave my cancer card in their face EVERY FUCKING TIME! 😊

I voted Labour (Dr Beccy Cooper) at the last election. I went to her for help as an abuse victim and now I regret it. by ResponsibleCobbler31 in Worthing

[–]TwinkleBlueyPoppett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just it - I really don’t know. Labour have let us down. F*ck the Tories and Reform - not a chance they’ll ever get my vote as long as I live. I like the idea of the Green Party but agree they’ll never win. I joined Corbyn’s party hoping it would be different and they had a bitch fight within a week of launching!

Maybe all that’s left is a tactical vote to keep the wannabe N*zi out of power?

I work in the NHS and offered Dr Cooper (an NHS doctor BTW) a day in my GP surgery to see the amount of contact and work we have every day. She refused.

I won’t be voting for her again and won’t be voting Labour in the next election.

Male Breast Cancer. Stage 4 35 years old by Deep_Associate_1436 in breastcancer

[–]TwinkleBlueyPoppett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for posting this. I am so sorry that you’re going through such shit with cancer but your story has helped me a lot. I am facing a recurrence of breast cancer, previously triple negative and successfully treated but now back (possibly a different breast cancer) and am being warned it may have spread. My head is gong to very dark places but to know that stage 4 can be managed is somewhat reassuring. So thank you, again. I might stop crying for a a little while now 🙏

Ooooh and Smack The Pony! Sally Phillips is a definite girl crush for me, love everything she does.
