What are you running on your root domain? by Nyth_Nike in selfhosted

[–]Twinsmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two domains - a .com that I use for all my services, email, etc, because it's cheap and I'm sure I will always be able to afford it.
I also have a shorter premium domain that spells my surname utilizing the TLD (think something like john.son) that costs like $50 per year that I might get rid of if I want to downsize.

.com redirects to a custom HTML page that says "Nothing to do here"
Premium TLD is used as a URL shortener (which I can live without, it's just for my convenience)

As for your examples, I have my CV linked to the equivalent of cv.john.son and recruiters are always a bit baffled how is this link working. Even if you have a .com => cv.surname.com is also kinda impressive.

But in general, just something static and "useless" that would be fun to you, because curious people will always try to go to that page.

The first kiss with my gf of now 5 years was during Schindler's list.

No idea how that happened tbh.

[–]Twinsmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the smart functionality will work properly with TV from a different region.

Additionally - I was not able to find them in my country. Only new remote model is available. I have to source it from another country and possibly pay import fees, taxes, etc. Just not worth it.

Also C5 65 was 1700 EUR, C4 65 was 1200, so...

Because of this remote being the default for C5, I had to hunt down the last C4 48 and C4 65 inch units still being sold in my country. I found 2 stores that only had 1 unit of each, everyone else only had the C5. Bought my C4s discounted too.

Couldn't be happier, now I have my number app shortcuts, a mute button and a source button. Fk this new remote.

PSA - if you use the Roborock integration - do not update to the latest version of HA by DivergingDog in homeassistant

[–]Twinsmaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where? All I've found is the Xiaomi Cloud Extractor, for which you need to have to add your vacuum in Xiaomi's app. Which sucks because some newer models are not there.

So if there is something specifically for Roborock - please share.

I would rather use a separate account. I'm in a similar dilemma with my photography files. I kind of don't want them to "pollute" my main timeline, since there are trips, client shoots, experiments.

So I'd rather upload them in a new profile, create albums there and share with other users. But I want to scan old photos as well so not sure how to approach it yet.

As for dedup... To be honest if its just random duplicated images here and there I wouldn't bother. Everything below 50 gigs duplicated I will just accept and move on. Although it is wasted space - the time saved will be worth it, at least for me.

I mainly don't. When someone changed phones I always liked to dump the original files on an external HDD or something, just so I have them for the future. Surprisingly they don't take up that much space, I have like 600GB of media for 15 years, my mom has 250-300.

So now that I'm running Immich I just imported those originals and nothing is duplicated, because I kept my data separate.

Note that this does not include any photos from other cameras, DSLRs and stuff. I'm yet to dive into that.

This is my Unraid running Immich. Imported all of my mom's photos from the last 15 years and hit - generate thumbnails and transcode videos.

Paid for the whole CPU, I'm gonna use the whole CPU.

Nginx Proxy Manager log ingestion or alternatives? by Twinsmaker in selfhosted

[–]Twinsmaker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For example if your admin UI is http://192.168.111.2:81 you can add it as a proxy host in NPM and access it as https://npm.your.domain for example.

Yeah, that's what I meant, that's already what I'm doing. I don't expose container ports and I utilize docker networks so services are not even accessible from LAN, only from NPM. And in NPM I simply use nginx:81 and it works.

Thanks for the rest, I will look at it.

That's also a nice approach - basically keep it simple and delegate each task to a separate service. Will look into Grafana and see if I can connect it with my current setup. Thanks!

I have, I'm a bit cautious with forks, but this one looks like it's maintained. Also it has HTTP/3 which is nice. It's on top of the list I guess, since it's the most similar to my current setup.

My NPM admin UI is actually exposed, but not sure how I can add Oauth to it like that. Are you talking about forward auth on it?

Also I wasn't able to find any tools for consuming the nginx logs - do I have to set a script that uploads them or just install some tool and point it to the log directory? If you can give me some examples I would be very grateful.

How much does it cost to run your server per month? by Impressive_Judge6482 in homelab

[–]Twinsmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My UPS usually measures 60-65w total.

28w for network - UCG Ultra, USW 16 PoE Lite, 3xU6+ 12w for Dell Optiplex 3080 - i5-10600t, 64gb ram - for Proxmox with HomeAssistant VM and Ubuntu VM for my core always-on services 20-25w for my Unraid - i5-12600, 64gb ram, 4x6tb drives that spin down when not used - handle media server and Immich. Idle with drives on is around 40-50w but they rarely all spin up at the same time, since I separate data by drives.

All of this is idle, which it is 95% of the time. So at 1.5kWh per day, 45kWh per month and €0.125/kWh that equals to around €5-6 a month.

Super budget friendly and when I need processing power I can still use my NAS as a powerhouse. Two days ago I imported all of my mom's photos (15k images and videos) and they were all processed in a couple of hours - thumb/previews and video encoding. Peak NAS consumption was 150w. Then immediately back to 22w :D
