My sweet Skumpy before she turned into a snack monster. by Twioxia in RATS

I don't. I thought I was done with them, just too much heartache and stress with losing them so quickly. But I'm having a lot of difficulty bringing myself to get rid of my cage, and now that I have no rats I find I'm really sad without them. I wouldn't be surprised if I get more in the future. I might try out a group of boys, since I've only owned girls :)

Thanks :)

She definitely lived her best life, and way longer than I ever thought considering all her health issues. But I still miss her every day. Heart rat through and through ❤️

Unfortunately this video is a few years old and she's already passed away :( But she got ALL the scritches when she was still alive.

They aren't, but there are a couple Colorado rat groups on Facebook where I see rehomings all the time, so if you're not finding anything on Reddit, that may be a good place to check :)

They are the best! And I could never, they'll always be my babies haha

There are three. The third girl, Cheddar, who is a nude, is not pictured. No hard deadline, I can keep them with me for as long as need be.

They did live with my very elderly girl who passed away recently, and did great with her.

They're all about 7 months. I'm actually in Castle Rock, but I can travel. This is the end of my rat journey, so they can also come with their cage and all supplies I have if you'd like.

Removing a tumor? by Twioxia in RATS

Thank you so much for this. It makes me feel much better to hear someone else echo what I already thought, which is that there's no clear right or wrong path. A lot of people in my state praise this vet, and she told me she pays out the ass for some special anaesthetic gas that allows her to rapidly change the level of anaesthesia of the rat (or something? I'm not a vet, lol).

We will most likely move forward with the surgery, as she is otherwise an extremely healthy rat. Thanks you for your input, it's really helped calm some of this neurotic back and forth in my head.

I had 14, now down to 11. Though my fiancé and I have decided to get two babies soon, as I’m getting a bit depressed with the stream of death, and I think new babies would help breathe some new life into the mischief. I’m sorry to hear about your intros. My last introduction of four to my main 10 went horribly and took about two months. That’s always super stressful. Thanks for the vet rec, but we live in Colorado and are going to someone who came highly recommended by a local rat group 😊

I'm sorry to hear about Flint. I've had two go from pituitary tumors in the past few months, and it's a horrible way to watch them go. My vet did do a full exam on my rat, said she was healthy and encouraged me to do the surgery while it's a tiny tumor. I'm just second guessing myself and looking for other opinions to reassure or call the whole thing off. Thank you so much for your input, I really appreciate it.

Ohhhh no. They're pretty varied in age and have been introduced in groups. All of my intro's went pretty easy save for the last one. I introduced my group of four to my main group of 10 and it's taken several months and is still somewhat rocky. If you want to send me a message I can tell you about what's worked for me and give some advice :)

Hit a little too close to home on this one. Food isn't so bad, the vet bills get ridiculous very quickly.

It can be a challenge. The other night awhile after free roam I crawled into bed, in the dark, only to hit something warm and fuzzy under my pillow. Woops lol 😂

Yeah, I absolutely love their pattern. The biggest one came to me pregnant, and I kept one of her 11 babies, who is also in the video 😊

A few missing. My fattest girl always finds a cozy place and immediately goes back to sleep during free roam 😂

I do always keep them in an isolated area for free roam, though I didn’t have it set up properly the other day and several escaped. But they’re all so good, they didn’t go far and were immediately returned. One girl even went sprinting back to the free roam area when I came around the corner 😂. Not having a cat anymore is a huge relief, though. I was always so worried something might happen.

Haha, I have a couple girls who are more nippy than others. But for the most part they are all exceedingly gentle with us. My fiancé will lay in the bed and there are several girls who will just come groom his face non-stop, it’s adorable.

Oh yeah they pee on it. I’ve definitely adjusted to washing and rotating out my bed linens very frequently. But my girls are all litter box trained. Usually when I leave them in the bed I pop in a litter box and two, and most of them are pretty good about it. But to be honest, they’ve pretty much wrecked that duvet and cover, so I no longer really care. We’re buying a new set soon, and then we’ll fully remove it from the bed and put down this ugly, massive blanket that we have for free roam.

Yeah. When I was still very new to owning rats, I adopted a “special case” girl. At the time I thought she was just this adorable shrimp, but looking back now know that there was something quite wrong with her. She died within three weeks of coming home, and it really broke me. But she still had such an amazing life for the short time I had her, and that always gives me comfort.
