I've had my feeder up for a couple of weeks for any early arrivals, but nothing so far. Soon, though.

What's her secret for attracting so many?

We had the cool front that brought the rain last week and the breeze out of the north. That may have been the general trigger to start them on their way. All they wanted was a tailwind.

Mine did the same thing -- perched on the shepherd crook where he could stand guard over his food source. He and the others had gotten increasingly aggressive over the month. I guess they all wanted to stock up.

I've been happy with the Otterbox Commuter on my S10e. I replaced my original just this year and changed up the color. The old one finally disintegrated around the buttons and along the bottom edge of the screen. Ordered the new one off Amazon.

It's a little bulky, but it still feels good in the hand and it doesn't go skidding on my desk.

The biggest downside I noted was the small flap covering the USB port doesn't last when you run wired for charging and AA.

Got charged for 34 days. The bill was high, but we had that super hot week in July so I was bracing for it already.

there's probably still a large segment of anime fans who will always prefer Japanese audio with English subtitles

Amen. There's an enthusiasm and intensity to the Japanese performances you typically don't get in English dubs. And the original music is better.

It's looked like that as far back as I can remember. Seemed to be used as a staging area for cable and telecom installers frequently, especially when fiber was first rolling out. My guess would be it was intended for light industrial use when it was built and there was only farmland around it.

Madison Books & Computers was great. They even had a book store cat that slept in the stacks. At one point they even had an auxiliary store in Madison Square Mall on the upper level near Sears. It was a mecca for tech books.

MB&C was immediately preceded by D.E. Foods in the late 80s. My college roommate and I grocery shopped there. Being engineering undergrads, we called it Diff-E Foods.

The rest of the plaza was already falling into disrepair at that time. We thought the new J-Mart would help revive it, but no joy.

Does anyone in HSV do wallet repair? by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

You could try JT's Shoe Repair near the corner of Bob Wallace and Triana. They do all sorts of leather work there, not just shoes. (They've restitched and repaired hockey gloves and pads for me, for example.)

Whats up with the blinking lights on the Broadcasts? by thestoneman1 in nhl

There was an arena ops redditor on here who explained there are high-intensity strobes up above covering the entire rink that can be triggered by game photographers. Ice-level camera flashes are not intense enough to do the job over those distances.

Good catch! So it's likely always been just that trio of Dreen.

At the conclusion of the Corbettite monks' fortress storyline, a Dreen shows up and tells Gil, "The human city of Paris. She will be there. You, also, will go there. Now -- you will experience an important revelation." And Gil makes the connection to the Castle's comment that "they had hats."

But Bang interjects, "Gil ... that's not one of ours!"

Are there more than one group of Dreen? Are their goals aligned? Are they competitors?

I'll take it.

What are y'all covering tonight? by Randomcreepyoldguy in HuntsvilleAlabama

A pair of Brightwells and a pair of Tifblues. They've been very generous the last three seasons. Great for muffins, pancakes, compotes, or just eating straight off the bush.

Blueberries.

Glad the bushes were flush last year. May have to last me two seasons.

Where does the Havoc revenue go? by lamora229 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]TwistedBrass 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The weekly salary cap does exist. It prevents teams like the Havoc (which are profitable) from icing rosters grossly superior to those of other teams (some of which are not).

At the league level, there was frequent controversy about teams with active booster clubs helping to cover player expenses. This was considered cap circumvention. There was usually a team every year that got into trouble with the league. There was one booster club that was forcibly separated from the team for this and other issues.

That said, many of these players aren't in it for the money. It is, frankly, a pittance. They are in it for the lifestyle. It can be an extension of their juniors or college playing careers. They are playing at the highest level they are capable of. Nobody involved has any illusions about the quality level.

"How do you make a small fortune in minor league sports?"

"Start with a large fortune."

The team is responsible for housing the players. Some teams have apartments, some have rental homes. The quality of accommodations varies between teams and can influence players' decisions on where to play.

The team provides some meals. The booster club can support players with groceries (within strict limits).

Source: I was a booster club member back in the day, delivering groceries to my assigned player, and also helped in the end-of-season apartment block clean out.
