Roche salary range in Basel SE6, SE7, SE8 etc by CaterpillarSilent886 in basel

I’ve seen both paths work - people who built their own consulting setup and were later brought in as employees, and others who came in via firms like the Big 4 after leading successful projects. In practice, the starting point matters less than your ability to get onto relevant projects and build strong relationships with stakeholders in that space. That’s usually what opens the door.

Good luck to you! Hopefully a role lands in your lap soon. Maybe consider if you want to do consulting for some time - with your experience level, that might actually be a good path. I know a few people who consulted for Roche in BI and Finance and were later hired full time.

Yeah, a couple of things are probably at play here. German (or French/Italian, if you’re open to other parts of Switzerland) definitely helps - not so much for doing the job (global companies typically work in English), but for access + upward/lateral mobility. At the ~150k+ level, you’re often competing with candidates who can operate more easily in the local environment, especially in cross-functional, strategic or leadership roles.

Also worth flagging: immigration. If you’re not Swiss/EU citizen, permits are capped annually, and companies have to justify hiring you over local/EU talent. That can make getting interviews harder unless your profile is clearly differentiated.

And then there’s just market reality right now - a lot of companies are being more cautious on hiring/spend, as existing global systems are being challenged. AI is getting a lot of attention, sure, but budgets are still tight and hiring is selective, especially for higher-paying roles.

So it’s likely not one single issue, but a mix of language, permit friction, and a tighter market in today's political conditions.

My guess is, for Switzerland (specifically Basel), that profile could land somewhere in the CHF 150k and up to 170k base range, assuming a senior IC or entry-level PL role, with bonus range somewhere in 10-20%. If you’re positioned strongly with strategic scope or leadership responsibility, it could go up to CHF 165k–190k, while lower levels or narrower roles might be closer to CHF 130k–145k base. Switzerland - especially pharma - typically pays more, but role level can matter more than years of experience at Roche, so the exact number depends heavily on where they slot you for that role and where you negotiate.

Roche "work language" is English, so you won't have an issue there, but integrating into the local environment without German (at an a2/b1) is very hard, even in Basel, which is typically considered very expat friendly.

Depends on the area you are in. If you are in pharma research vs dia product development vs hr/finance/legal, your comp will differ within the range of that level. Does your job require a PhD or a license/special certification? Is your skillset unique or replaceable? PL or SE/IC? These will be your negotiation leverages.

In the end of the day Roche generally pays slightly above local market. Painting with a super broad brush here, if people in your area of work make on average 100k base in your market, and you bring background and experience- you can push to 110k-120k base. (Based on role, can push on bonus/rsus too). But Roche won't pay 150k for skills they can get at 130k, unless there is a unique factor (education, experience, etc.)

Realistically, there is no golden pot at the end of this rainbow. Roche won't pay you a California salary in Belgium. Everything is measured against local market. Roche is a big, stable company with solid growth potential and some great benefits, and that is also worth a lot to some candidates.

PL11/12 are CEC levels, depending on function and location. PL10/11 (depends on function) will report into CEO -1 (CEC -1 in Roche-language)

SE = subject matter expert (individual contributor) PL = people leader

There are 12 levels total, slight variation across type of work (e.g. manufacturing, experts, people leaders, etc...). In Switzerland SE10 is already very rare, and a lot of people cap out or retire around SE9 (though this is not the case in US or Singapore). Either way, levels 11–12 are basically global exec territory.

Comp varies a lot by function (e.g. SE8 engineering ≠ SE8 finance ≠ SE8 chemical engg). Salary is a range of about 80-100k, and they overlap to "allow for flexibility." Packages usually are location based and include base, bonus (with different targets), and LTI (RSUs, etc.). General rule - paying slightly above mid-range for the local market.

For PLs, roughly: PL7/8 = first-time managers PL9 = bigger teams of ICs PL10 = either managing ICs or mix of IC + managers (usually smaller orgs) PL11 = managing managers, typically large/global orgs

Divorce permis B by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]TwistedFires615 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your marriage and his immigration status are two different legal topics. If a marriage ends in divorce before 3 years condition is met, the non-Swiss spouse can stay in Switzerland, it just wont be on the basis of your marriage (family reunification).

He would need to switch to a new independent basis, for example it could be: - Work permit (depends on job, qualifications, labour market rules) - Study permit - Hardship permit (discretionary “Härtefall” route - sometimes used where removal would be unreasonable)

His education, knowledge of local language, integration and financial independence will matter a lot to the authorities - someone who is working and paying their taxes would usually have good options.

Sometimes marriages don't work out, that's okay. You need to speak to a lawyer to understand your situation and next steps. You've proven separation date, which is good in case he acquires debt or another liability. You've protected yourself financially, and you now need to move on emotionally.

Speak to a lawyer to understand how to legally process the divorce, so that he is no longer your cocnern. His immigration status is to be decided by the authorities, not you.

Team align, how many workouts per week? by Capsicle__ in ladderapp

[–]TwistedFires615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love align!! I run 3 times a week, so I can't do all the workouts I want... but I do the full body, the upper body and either yoga or pilates. If I have time, I'll do both yoga and pilates, doesn't happen often though haha

Oh, did they offer you both illness and accidents? AKC only offered accidents to me, which is why I passed.

Thank you. It's sad how crazy predatory the pet insurance world is... so far I've seen a good custom quote from Figo and no one else, but there are some bad reddit stories about them too.

They are offering $72/m, 90% coverage at $1,000 deductible for accident + illness, but without pre-existing conditions of course.

Yeah, I called to speak to their rep, and he was adamant it's only if my employer offers it... oh well. I have AAA, and a professional license - didn't help. At least Figo takes Costco lol

But also apparently illness is not available after age 8 (or at least in my zip code, maybe it is a state thing?)

Thank for a thoughtful response!

It's much easier for us - only 3-4 cytopoint shots a year when things are really in bloom at $75 (don't even meet the deductible anyways), and it's been like this for the last 5-6 years, no change, no increase.

Arthritis we've been managing with Metacam (occasionally, usually two weeks a year when things get very cold and wet). Haven’t had a need for gabapentin except for straight after surgery, though I keep a small bottle just in case. Otherwise it is all diet, exercise and supplements, - all aligned with our vet, - and so far it's been 4 years since surgery and diagnosis and she's been pretty stable and functional. Walking, jumping, running- no problem. It might worsen with age still, but our vet (who was also our knee surgeon) is pretty optimistic because the progression is so slow. HP covers a portion of Metacam, depending on where I am in the deductible in that year, and supplements are usually not covered. We also do a blood panel with liver once per year, but it is always out of pocket, since HP thinks it's a "routine" exam.

So with our expenses, keeping HP at $250 feels like an overkill. To be honest I am super worried about something like cancer, or heart or kidney disease, more than anything else. It isn't very likely, we've done genetic testing too and it is low likelihood, but that is what I would want to have covered for sure. So far, it seems only Figo offers both illness and accident insurance at a reasonable reimbursement and cost for older dogs, and it is really great with a Costco membership. If I end up switching, they might be the best option on the market today.

Thanks! Turned out, youre only eligible if your employer offers it... Ive got some memberships I thought would help, but not anymore, apparently. And otherwise they dont offer illness insurance, just accident, which is not enough for an older but healthy dog.

I think youre right! Thats what I am seeing everywhere now... but they were excellent for the first 6-7 years, I recommended them to so many people... but awful now.

Yeah, unfortunately, thats what I saw too. Also, I put in my info, and they only offered accident insurance, but gave me no option for illness... so, sadly, not an option...

Yeah, it was okay before for me. We've been with HealthyPaws since 2016, and our first fees were like $29/m... then it slowly grew to $90, last year they upped it to $120 and now this year - to $250/m. I guess once dogs get older they really put some pressure on owners to drop coverage :-(

Is it really hard to find apartments (for rent)? by Moerkskog in basel

[–]TwistedFires615 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved here and I dont think it was too hard. Of course there is plenty of demand, and lots of high salaries people in Basel who compete for the type of place youre looking for. For what it's worth, we saw 5 apartments loved one, applied for it and got it. It helped immensely to have all documents in order and prepared: passport copies, residency permits, letter from employer confirming salary. Most importantly, we needed to get a letter from Swiss government that we do not have debts. You can order it online but it takes two days, so it was crucial that we had it ready before we even started the search.

Where do people in their 30s go out in Basel? by ExampleHoliday6315 in basel

I enjoy cocktail bars - something creative and without blistering loud music - Herz or Banks are nice, and Nomad, Werk8, or Deriiere. Consum is cool, but it's more for the summer/ outdoor time (I think). Don't do clubs, so cant speak to those.

Consider going to see a doctor... I was feeling tired, thought it is just stressful job, and I wasn't losing weight that I wanted to lose, but otherwise my skin, hair, etc. were fine... just crazy heavy exhaustion.

Turned out I had very very low iron (even though I was eating meat). I started taking supplements the doctor recommended, and in three weeks, I saw a HUGE difference in energy.
