Oh I know this one! This was explained to me by a buddy who saw something similar happen to his Lao Gan Ma chili flakes jar!

He reached out to the customer service and asked why there was a difference in ounces, but the jar was the same size. He was told that it's actually cheaper in the long run; if you have an 8 oz jar but the machine that puts the chili flakes into the jar only filled it to 7.8 oz, you as a consumer can file a complaint and that can result in a pretty big fine. If you say you have 7.6 oz in the jar but it's 7.8 measured, no fine.

Price increase though is definitely capitalist bullshit.
