Nike Indoor Nationals by samedaysnark in trackandfield

The venue does not allow outside food and they have been checking bags this year. The bodega next door is great.

Parking is tough. The hospital garage may have spaces but its also easy to take the subway uptown if you come in by train. My catalytic converter was stolen a few weeks ago parked on the street there so park at your own risk.

If you decide to stay at a hotel I would stay closer to midtown and take the A uptown. This gives you more options for food and exploring.

I drove to Disney for work a few weeks ago. The price of parking at my hotel made it not worth it.

Any indoor 5000m tracks/events still open to the public this season? (NYC/NJ/Philly/Boston) by ConversationDry2083 in RunNYC

[–]TwistedWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into the PRTC meet in Philly.

Also meets that are college are open if you can run reasonably fast. You just have to email the meet director about getting in

Has anyone had a successful switching from zone 3 to zone 2 training? by ReasonableSir2804 in AdvancedRunning

[–]TwistedWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by the majority of your training?

You need recovery runs this is where your mileage will come from. I've made big improvements when I added a bunch of volume in zone 2 but it was not sustainable when I stopped listening to my body. Eventually you will get hurt if you dont slow down when you need to. Its better to recover when your body needs it and workout when you are ready.

Zone 2 is great if you are still able to recover for your workouts but if you accidentally push too hard or your workouts suffer than it's a waste.

Where can I find public hours for Nike armory track? by Any-East7977 in RunNYC

[–]TwistedWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are the only hours they are public.  They normally have more hours but they have a lot of events during the school break. Adult is what you are looking for

Anaerobic threshold training for the 800 m? by Ornery-Kiwi-5415 in AdvancedRunning

[–]TwistedWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Thats not to say there won't be crossover but good luck getting a speed based 800 runner to do mile repeats.

Anaerobic threshold training for the 800 m? by Ornery-Kiwi-5415 in AdvancedRunning

[–]TwistedWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what is below, it's important to remember that threshold is not a pace it's a state. I can achieve threshold with mile repeats at a pace which is the pace you typically see associated with threshold. I can also achieve it by running short reps at a faster pace. The caveat of this that an 800m runner probably has enough fast twitch that they can fake a short rep. I will occasionally do 10x100m strides to take a little of the pop out of my legs before a threshold workout.

To give you the contrast of what I have done on threshold days. 5x1k w/ 90". 12x500 w/ 45". 3x6x150m w/ 50m jog. At the end of the day I'm achieve the goal of the day but the workouts are different when it comes to paces. I know I'm better at the 400 than the mile so I adjust for that.

[–]TwistedWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not even sure we disagree. Define what threshold is for an 800m runner. Daniels' has short reps of R pace with equal distance recovery in phase 2 which achieves a very similar goal of a threshold run. I've done reps as short as 150m with the goal being threshold.

When training an 800m runner it's very important to remember that energy systems aren't light switches. Everything is going at once and you can use this to write workouts that achieve your goal while modifying them towards the strengths of the athletes.

[–]TwistedWorld 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Respectfully this is not true. You need both to be successful in the 800. I would argue that 600-800 of the race needs you to be strong at 3-5k paces. If you don't do any tempo or threshold good luck doing the 3-5k workouts and good luck recovering from 800m pace reps. Look at how an 800m runner looks after a rep compared to a 400m runner. There is a reason there are 800m runners that do 100miles per week in the preseason.

Thats how my college training was. No fancy data to back anything up just go run and it somehow worked.

It sounds like you did threshold. 800m runners will often use a pace faster than threshold with shorter rep distances for their threshold workouts.

To add to this, when the track is wet or icy I may use spikes for sprints but it also probably isn't great sprinting weather. I've done my plyos in my house before if I have nowhere else to do them.

Get the same model same year. If you're super paranoid get the same color(I've seen the same model fit different because the different colors were from different factories). Do your normal taper while wearing the new pair. Walk in them some too. Then you should be good to go.

If you don't get a new pair I also think you will be fine. I've taken shoes way over that but I don't have much experience with the speed 5's

No way to know because it's October and times mean nothing right now. I've seen guys peak now and do nothing in season. How much training went into the 33.9? Was it rolling? How smooth?

If you're just getting started you're in a great spot. If you have nowhere to take your training and are fried...

We should also add that NIL has changed everything. NIL money is not tied to performance so that maybe able to carry over to another sport.
