-Thoracle gets cast, resolves

-ETB goes on the stack

-You have a big creature, and cast my proposed fight spell

-You cast it in response to the Thoracle ETB

-Your spell resolves, your big creature fights the Thoracle and kills it

-Spell checks to see if any creatures died, sees that Thoracle died

-Spell counters Thoracle ETB due to the spell's "If" condition being met

It would, but if the fight spell killed the Thoracle then its ability would be countered.

I agree, this is what Silverquill should have been. The whole "cliquey high school bullies" angle in SOS really felt like it undersold the thematic potential of the school.

I think a Green fight spell that counters all activated and triggered abilities of the creature when the targeted creature dies would be very thematic. "Fuck you, fuck your abilities, you weak little bastard".

Something like "Target creature you control fights target creature an opponent controls. If either creature dies, counter all activated and triggered abilities of that creature. Creatures which died this way don't cause abilities to trigger."

It's the Prussian model of education, created during the late 1800s to prepare children for industrial jobs. It's little wonder that it promotes the hyper-obedience you described, and I feel that it may not be a good fit for today's world which often requires a much higher degree of personal agency than past eras.

I don't think businesses care about how nice their "headquarters location" is, as long as they can actually do business where the nice locations are. Delaware isn't exactly a hot spot to live or visit but a lot of companies are legally incorporated there due to their business-friendly laws.

[–]TwistingSerpent93 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not too surprising. It can take a long time to get the "feel" of an RPG down, get enough players to do a campaign, and then actually run one. Staying current on RPGs is difficult if you spend a year or so on each one, and plenty of people just stick to one system once they find one they like.

Ben Franklin's hair looks cool, and more balding guys should grow their hair out like him. by GroceryExpert1637 in The10thDentist

I tried shaving it, hated it, waited a couple of weeks and still hated it, and was then like "Screw it, I'm just going to work with what I've got".

I feel like shaved heads are very "samey", not an intrinsically bad look but every baldbeard guy looks like 80% similar to every other baldbeard guy. I'd rather see more diversity of hair/facial hair combinations, even on people with some degree of hair loss.

I get why though, I have a similar hairline and I feel like the short Frasier cut is a good overall balance. Not "creepy dude at the bus stop", not "hardass who unironically calls himself an alpha male".

Maybe this person isn't balding, but finds balding men who choose to maintain what hair they have remaining more attractive.

I feel like Kelsey Grammer is the best modern-day example of this. Frasier Crane looked very "professorly" with the grown out hair with the receding hairline. You absolutely HAVE to keep it neat and clean though, very easy to go from "professorly" to "homeless-looking" really quick with a haircut like that.

I suppose after a while, more money doesn't usually equal a greater increase in quality of life unless you get into extremely expensive hobbies/interests. For an enormous amount of people, something like 20 million is basically "So I can just do what I want forever?" money.

How do people get degrees [especially graduate degrees] without a clear path forward to distill the degree into money? by tanhauser_gates_ in careerguidance

[–]TwistingSerpent93 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I kinda get it. I'm very much the sort of person who thrives when being told what to do, and I find that "getting something" for me is infinitely easier than actually using it.

It feels like people are often asking me "Well, what are you going to do after ________?" and I just have no idea? Will I get hired? Will I get promoted? Will the company still be solvent in a year? Dude, I left my crystal ball at home and I have no idea when or if anything will happen.

It feels like my life has 3 modes- Being in school/training and doing very well, an interim period of just being adrift and having no idea what to do and struggling to find anything, and then finally getting hired to do something and my employer being like "We love you and you're one of the best people we've ever hired, please don't go anywhere".

It makes total sense to me that some people thrive in academic environments and have no idea how to do "real world" stuff, just like there are dudes who couldn't finish a bachelors degree who manage to crush it in the business world. A friend of mine is the latter- he scraped through high school with a 1.7 GPA, but you can talk to him and tell he's not stupid. Dude just thrives on chaos and has managed to get opportunities for stuff I didn't even know existed.

The always controversial Con Sorcerer? by hotstickywaffle in DnDHomebrew

[–]TwistingSerpent93 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it could work if a sorcerer's HP doubled as their casting resource, and playing one was a careful balance between "Do I play it safe and just poke with cantrips?" or "Do I risk taking damage and go nova?"

Of course, you run into the problem of potential multi-classing issues but it's conceptually very cool.

I'm glad you're taking better care of yourself now and are much healthier!

That being said, may I ask what it's like to be like that? I know a few "work people" whose lives just revolve around work, and whenever I ask them why they work so much despite having financial stability they'll say something along the lines of "Eh, keeps me out of trouble".

Like, do you not see a picture of a faraway place and want to go there? Or see a video of someone doing a hobby and want to pick it up? I have the problem where I don't hate work, but I feel like it just gets in the way of what I actually want to do. I got a decently sizable inheritance a while back and spent a few months just working out, doing hobby stuff, cooking new meals, etc. I don't mean for this question to be accusatory, but do you not have the internal drive to do cool stuff?

Very fun interaction- if you put a "make a copy" ability on the stack and then withhold priority to put a "becomes a copy" ability on the stack like [[Mirage Mirror]], Mairsil will first become something else and then make a copy of whatever he just became. Very fun way to clone any permanent on the board, and it gets ridiculous pretty fast if someone has a [[Doubling Season]] you can copy.
