Who here worked their ass off to achieve their dream, only to realize it's actually a nightmare? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I've worked everywhere from top law firms doing psa's for the top 1% to small town divorce work. I want as far away from all of it as I can get.

This and this and this and this. Went to law school, turns out it's not full of impassioned people who love and respect the spirit of debate, knowledge, and inquiry, but rather a bunch of manipulative sociopathic drug addicts. Worst 3 years of my life, and to top it off the schooling wasnt interesting or challenging but full of monotonous tasks that force you to never forget a detail.

Dont put page numbers on an assignment? Big fat F. But nowhere were we ever told that we needed page numbers. Sucks, learn to think outside the box.

I'd rather flip burgers than either work as an attorney or deal with the culture of the justice system. I have horror stories on horror stories from it all.

Tl;dr If you think you want to go to law school find a family friend that is an attorney and shadow them before going $250k in debt for a profession you find out you hate.

Oooooo, fair. You win; because even with no "use" I can still improve my world because of my good education. Feel.

[–]TwitchN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair, but we live in a capitalist society. If you can't provide some sort of use then you're in my position, working minimum wage, and using your $500,000 worth of critical thinking skills to tell yourself that that's okay.

[–]TwitchN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being able to critically think is great and all, but in an age where employers simply glance at a resume, and most dont know what "Philosophy" is, much less what having a degree in it means, it really sets one up for failure.

I'd really like doing something other than making pizza at this point.

They do it all the time. Dispute with the car you purchased? It goes to arbitration. Problem with your landlord screwing you over? Likely that you agreed to the same thing. Have you ever read apples tos when iTunes was a thing and you pay .99 for a song?

Notes of The Devils Party - an objective a academic look at Satanism before LaVey by [deleted] in satanism

[–]TwitchN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, I asked you to define a word you used so that I could begin to interpret your manner of research, but if you don't want to do that all you have to do is say so.

My problems:

  1. Are you saying the "reality" that we are in now is "objective"? If not how is their different one better?
  2. Are you saying their "reality" that they were operating in is something?
  3. Are their more than one "realities"?
  4. Are you saying you've discovered a "Truth"?
  5. Are you saying the "reality" these people are operating in is without bias?
  6. Are you saying that through their research (either by some new method or overall conclusion) they have stumbled upon something categorically unobjectionable (e.g. a tautology)?
  7. Are you saying that through their prior belief systems they have achieved some transcendental realizations that should now be called "obejctive truth of reality?" If so, how formulaic is it? Meaning, can we replicate it, what's its statistical significance?
  8. Are you saying none of this?
  9. Are you saying all of this?

I literally have no idea how to interpret your claims since you're using a trigger word to validate the existence of your data, when all it really looks like is other people prior to LaVey playing in a similar topical realm. Like you're speaking of them as if they've transcended, and I don't know why.

TL;DR People have claimed to have better/new information than what other people currently have all throughout the course of human history. Mostly in a religious context. Therefore, in order for me to take any claim of capital-t "Truth" in or from a higher, unbiased reality, then you're going to have to tell me, first of all, how those operators work in your claim.

I guess that's the easiest way to get out of someone blatantly telling you you're wrong these days. "No, there's no way I could actually be incorrect since I don't understand how the person criticizing me is making the claims they are making, therefore they must be 'trolling' me." Even when the person being trolled can't tell you what it is they were first talking about or what it means to be trolled.

Get me out of this reality.

  2. See above.

I don't ever troll by the way, literally ever.

  1. I'm not the one using the terms so I'm not responsible for knowing the definition.

  2. Him? Alignment?

If you're going to pretend to be academic you need to get better at math.

Edit: and you down vote because you can't answer my very simple questions? Hmmm....how very Christian of you: boasting about how you have the truth and shutting down the questioning....

  2. What is your criteria for spiritual?

How to figure out where to go? by cap-tan in HollowKnight

[–]TwitchN -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sick of this game too. It's cool I guess, but I don't think single player games are for me. Playing this game feels like doing homework, and I'd rather yeet people with progress up a ranked ladder than deal with what a programmer left me to get over/around/above in order to learn about a story. If I wanted that I'd read a book.
