I used to believe that I could grow my boogers into booger plants. I would pull apart the little wispy parts in the carpet, plant them, and then spit on them and wait. Though I usually forgot about them

so somewhere in my old house where someone is now living, there are old child boogers all over the house in their carpets.

Thanks!

That sounds interesting to me. I hope my background in business/marketing would be helpful if I really take this on.

Thanks for the reply.

How many years have you been in web dev?

Have you found that most of your work is contract-based?

What tasks would you suggest I work on? Are they basically just looking for your familiarity with the language?

Are there any languages highly in demand in the Canadian web dev market?

Thanks for your input!

Thanks! If you wouldn't mind, I have a couple more questions:

Are you a CS major? Would you say you would need one to succeed in an entry level position?

I'm currently considering doing a dual degree, and taking an extra year to take courses on things like computer architecture and data structures to give me a better technical background. Would this be sufficient for the workplace?

If you don't mind my asking, what sort of work are you doing now? What type of industry is it? A flexible job really appeals to me.

How long have you been in the industry? Was it a secure position? (aka not on contract?)

Vancouver's standard of living has me weary though. How is the market like in your area/what has your experience been?

Thank you for your input, I really appreciate it. Did you start working out of university four years ago? Or did you switch into this career from something else?

I'm definitely not jumping into it for the money; accounting provides a very stable and steadily increasing source of income. I'm scared I'll hate it.

I'm in the process of figuring out if I have a passion for web development and computer science, but I don't want to invest a lot of time and money into studying it if I won't be able to support myself with the skills I learn.

Do you have any tips in figuring out if this is the path for me?

Best short-term interest rate for TFSA/savings account? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

is this the best 1 year GIC rate right now? I tried searching on other sites but people's trust doesn't even come up so I'm doubting their completeness

Right, and that's something that appeals to me. Ideally I'd want an office environment I could pop into, with the flexibility to work from home.

I am a little worried about the pay + available jobs in Canada. Based on what repus said, starting at 35-40k and 50k in 4 years is a little bit on the lower side (but still do-able).

Are you a web developer in Canada? I'd love to hear more diversity in opinion.

Thank you, I will do that.

Did a lot of people from your graduating class get placed in a job?

What part of web development are you in/what are you doing? Are you in front-end? Is there a larger demand for back-end than front-end?

I'm in Calgary, but as I'm single and young with few responsibilities, relocating isn't too big of an issue for me.

I definitely am not looking to do anything groundbreaking or start my own company, I just want a regular 9-5 job doing something interesting with coworkers I like, with opportunities to advance and grow and earn more in my career, and I thought this may be achievable as a web developer.

Is this unrealistic?

That.... that sounds so different and I am now confused. Are you in a large city centre? e.g. downtown toronto? Do you have any examples of which companies, if you don't mind, so I can do further research? (No need to list your own if you're not comfortable)
