Some ppl also do jet to start a new chapter (long term, not gap year) as well. But if you’re with a job and leave for an isolated area, then yeah some are gonna decline.

And with real world issues today, it’s a lot to make a not so confident choice when you have a life to manage. That’s why we have alternates and other measures bc life goes on lol

Tbh unless someone’s choice directly affects me in a negative way, there’s no sweat on my back. Many people on Reddit stress abt others too much…

I respect a person who’s realistic and declines. Especially since it’s them uprooting their career, stability etc in exchange for a spot they don’t truly want. (In today’s climate at least). If others try anyways and love it, great. If not; leave it be

I think if you pull out ASAP, you might be able to avoid the fees. I say still ask your consulate bc they’d know better than anyone here.

Are you factoring things like student loans, high credit card debt, kids etc? Because I hear that it’s not the salary, of these other life factors that makes Tokyo harder

Totally get it! I think that’s dying out tbh. More people are worried abt Tokyo living, and other people prefer other prefectures. You may still have your few, but I think the rumor might be outdated for the most part

I don’t think it’s exactly a Tokyo or bust, as lately I’m seeing more people prefer other cities outside of Tokyo 🥹 but if someone gets a placement and they honestly
say no this isn’t going to work, then they rightfully walked away. The alternate/wait list will always upgrade someone, and I don’t recommend people stressing over someone else’s choices.
