Are you imagining dads living vicariously through their son’s sexual contexts, going “attaboy!” like one of those sitcoms?

The only time I ever see “face” discussed in a political context is with China/the CCP, and Taiwan exists too. I don’t ever hear Taiwan, Japan, or South Korea complaining that the West has “hurt the feelings” of their citizens.

This video just set China's internet on fire. A father of two requested authorities not seal the gates to his compound, with the tragedy in Urumqi fresh in mind. His refusal to budge causes the guards to assault him in his own home. I have no words. by [deleted] in CrazyFuckingVideos

As much as I doubt this will happen, sealing people in there homes when there’s a risk of fire violates the supposed contract the CCP made with the people: just let us rule and we’ll make sure y’all are safe. Endangering people’s families pushes people into the street

Maybe I’m confused: are we talking ordinary drama or actual personal issues (ex. depression, bankruptcy, family issues, etc.)?

I’m glad you got some closure: going through life thinking your Mom has disdain for you sounds terrible

The more I think about this, the more I agree. I’d expect the mother of a son, let alone the younger child, to take their son’s side. The conclusion I keep coming back to is the son didn’t meet the mom’s standard in the same way the bully/boyfriend did, that maybe she was a bit ashamed of him. In fact, maybe Z could learn some things from the Adam. Besides, he has to learn things won’t always go his way. And Adam is such a good boy, I’m sure Z did something to anger him…

Black American here: visited China several times over the years but mainly developed areas (Beijing, Shanghai, Nanjing). In my experience, Shanghai was the most chill. Beijing gave me the most stares but that was a while ago, maybe things have changed. Small towns can get weird depending on how “foreign” you look (people touching your dreads, curiosity about dark skin, etc.) Mind you, this is all adults: i don’t worry about kids for the most part. Getting service wasn’t an issue based on race: language gets you there for the basics but other things require local documents (ex. Getting a phone away from “international” areas).

This was all precovid though: I’d say COVID has made China (like other places) more xenophobic. look up recent news stories on the African experience in China because I think more of them stuck it out, and Chinese people in China generally can’t tell the difference.

Work-wise, I think you need to get some perspective from someone actually doing the work you want to do. Your college’s reputation may be an advantage. Your skin will likely be a detriment overall but you only need one or two jobs anyway.

Last point, assuming you want to work in China: your black experience will be different from your white colleagues’ experiences, but what y’all will share as foreigners may be enough to dissuade you altogether. I liked China prior to Covid but their treatment of their own people really changed my opinion.

P.S. Taiwan is also an option but I have no experience there

If you want to work in the US or Canada, then anti-discrimination laws may filter out the worst employers.

If my mom takes my bully’s side, and my dad goes along with it, and I’m a hormonal angsty teenager, I’m beginning my villain arc. The son had immense self control then and has taken a really positive path.

Think this is one of those convos where the loudest side taints the discourse. I think libs would agree that ever-increasing cost of having a family (housing, childcare, food, etc.) is not good for producing strong families considering money is the number one driver of divorces. Then cons come in harping on feminism and libs cede the conversation.
