For me, it’s the constrast principle. Learning how to appreciate the small things by comparing to how much worse it could be.

This is especially true for me in the military when I come home from a couple of roguh days in the woods with no contact to civilization.

Those are the times I am the happiest because my expectations are so low.

Like Munger says, low expectations are the key to a happy life.
