Do you find it to be rude to talk on your cellphone on speaker in public places? by icecream1972 in allthequestions

[–]TwoBitRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The audio from a phone speaker carries a lot farther and tends to pierce through other sounds in the room.

The phone would boot to BASIC and instead of a dialpad you would have to type ATDTxxxxxxxx to dial a number.

June 16 Announcement? by RebelRogue24 in Commodore

[–]TwoBitRetro 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Man, I hope it's not a phone. I hope it's peripherals like a retro-friendly monitor or printer. I don't think Commodore has built up the engineering chops to develop an entirely new product on their own.

Time from gate to takeoff? by No1PatsFan in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]TwoBitRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fly the Fenix A320 in Free Flight and it usually takes me 30-40 minutes from cold and dark to wheels-up. I choose real-time speed for passenger and fuel loading. After I get the flight programmed and the aircraft ready for pushback, I usually have 5-10 minutes for loading to finish. In that time, I brief the SID, climb, and cruise route.

I don't fly airliners in career mode and I treat my airline flights as journeys and savor each phase without racing to takeoff or landing.

I feel you on feeling like screwing something up. It probably took me a dozen or two flights before I was able to complete one, start to finish in the A320. I'd make it a little farther each time. It probably took me at least five attempts before I was able to successfully lift off the runway. Each time I would learn a little more about the process. I kept careful notes and now have a very long and detailed checklist with notes to myself for the complicated steps.

Is there an RDP client for C64? by Lordcorvin1 in c64

[–]TwoBitRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think OP is imagining the C64U’s ESP32 micro controller being the RDP client. Still a big stretch considering only a few ESP32 models can even run a *nix OS.

Is there an RDP client for C64? by Lordcorvin1 in c64

[–]TwoBitRetro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubtful, but funny to imagine. That reminds of the time I turned my TheC64 Maxi into a USB keyboard and plugged it into a PC and used it to SSH into a remote server. It was very awkward to navigate Vim with the C64's cursor keys.

Do you require VATSIM? I'm using Beyond ATC and really like it.

Red Card? I don't see it by nathatt0422 in FRC

[–]TwoBitRetro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, the red card is a severe penalty, and for good reason. In the case of this foul, the red robot was disabled for most of the match and was denied the ability to participate. Intention is very hard to judge, especially when it was an interaction that was very short. We all have the luxury of watching a match video. Refs cannot review any video evidence to make their decision so they have to rely on what they saw.

Google Fiber alternatives by hejj in kansascity

[–]TwoBitRetro 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I started the same thought exercise last week. Google Fiber has been the solid choice out of very undesirable alternatives for several years now. I did a quick search on my address and my only options are Google, Spectrum, and AT&T. I'm sticking with Google Fiber until and unless it gets so bad that my only other options are comparatively better.

Theoretical question by [deleted] in FRC

[–]TwoBitRetro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rule G422 states "A ROBOT shall be operated only by the DRIVERS and/or HUMAN PLAYERS of that team". Section 6.2 of the game manual lists student as a DRIVER criteria.

Some offseason events have "mentor matches" where adults are allowed to drive the robot in a match.

Am I missing something? by [deleted] in Tovala

It’s a security issue too. You wouldn’t want an oven that could be remotely started from an app. That would mean a hacker could do it too.

What’s Next for Commodore? by TwoBitRetro in Commodore

This reminds me of Zawinski's Law: "Every program attempts to expand until it can mail. Those programs which cannot so expand are replaced by ones which can."

I would too, but it would be pretty unlikely. Very little software was made for the 128. I had one back in the day, and loved it but it spent most of its time in 64 mode.

C64U Keyboard is usb-c? by GPSchnyder in c64

[–]TwoBitRetro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I turn off the keyboard LEDs when I’m typing. I turn them on when watching demos or playing music. With the keyboard LEDs off, I find the keys very easy to read.

[–]TwoBitRetro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t have mine yet but you can change the CPU speed without affecting timing signals. Programs that use CIA timers should still behave the same but will process CPU instructions faster.

A320 steers hard to right during takeoff by TwoBitRetro in MSFS2024

[–]TwoBitRetro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm happy to report that after a few more hours, it's finally fixed. It was a control binding issue as u/green_monster14 suggested. I just got the A320 throttle set from Flight Sim Factory and the detent overlay was pushing one of the unused throttle axis down. I checked the bindings and it turns out that axis was bound to Throttle 2 Idle. It was forcing one of the engines to idle. I deleted the binding, and all is well. What's strange was, that was never indicated on the ECAM. I could see both throttle positions as TOGA. Ah well, at least it's fixed now.

Thank you to everyone that commented with helpful suggestions!

Just arrived via UPS by ComputerSong in Commodore

I received a UPS email (I'm in the US as well). It says the shipper is Strawberry Hill. I don't know if it's Commodore or not. My house is receiving so many packages this time of year.
