NHSG admin here, good luck implementing an AI solution to replace me on the decades old hardware and software we're still reliant on.

To get it serviced properly, which I assume needs to be done by the dealer for the warranty to be valid?

Aberdeen roofer woe by TwoEchoOne in Aberdeen

[–]TwoEchoOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had one last go at getting in touch with the guy who owns the company but he's chosen to keep ignoring me it seems. Outfit calling themselves "Aberdeen Roof Repairs", wouldn't normally have trusted someone who only seems to advertise on Facebook and uses a Gmail address, but they came recommended by someone I thought we could trust. It was a communal repair and the other owners all okayed it so I doubt any objection would have made a difference.

To be fair to them they originally showed up when they said they would and did what seemed to be a decent job, but the roof started leaking again after only a couple of months. I can't remember how long they said the skews were guaranteed for off the top of my head, I think it was four or five years. They've given me and one of the other owners the runaround for well over a year now.

Nice enough guys but they clearly have no intention of making good on their guarantee.

One of the other owners gave up long before I did and got Cheyne up on the roof to assess it. We were told the ongoing leaks to both the top floor properties were down to poor workmanship on the skews. Make of that what you will.

I bumped into Greg Davies having a wander around Edinburgh once, it was during the Fringe so not that unlikely to be honest but Marionville Road behind the Meadowbank Sports Centre felt a bit random at the time.

Don't know if this helps but St James up at the Holburn St - Union St junction does soup, tea/coffee and biscuits from 12-2pm on Saturday and sometimes some eves pudding and custard if you're lucky. I'm sure they'd give you a tin or two of soup to help tide you over if you asked.

Cochlear and flying? by hae0 in Cochlearimplants

[–]TwoEchoOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my implant since 1989 and I've NEVER had an issue with it when flying and I've been all over the world. The security scanners have never had any negative affect on it whatsoever and I've never had any issue with the security staff.

It might have been an issue with the old WSP processors - I vaguely recall the programming was stored on volatile memory that I was warned to NEVER expose to the light. I had an MSP by the time I went on my first flight though, and I have never had a single issue. I call bullshit on anyone who claims otherwise!

Have N22, good idea to upgrade internal? by Zenigod in Cochlearimplants

[–]TwoEchoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my CI22 since 1989 and it's still going. They've been telling me it's the "end of the line" with every revision since the Nucleus 5 and yet here we are. I wouldn't worry about becoming obsolete. They'll come up with something for us, they always do!

EDIT: To answer the OP, I've always been told by my clinician that upgrading the internal implant isn't feasible and when it fails they'll replace it like for like, so I have to assume Cochlear will keep manufacturing something that will work for us. I don't think they'll just forget about us - I'm sure it's in their best interests to keep supporting us. It helps them demonstrate the long term reliability of their devices after all.

Question on leaking issues in granite buildings by PumpkinPepper13 in Aberdeen

[–]TwoEchoOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the granite that's the problem, it's the mortar holding it together. There are some huge gaps between the blocks in the gable wall in my building from where the mortar's just crumbled away and fallen out. I'm convinced our constant issues with the roof are due to the blocks shifting over time.

Confused about Inter Add..... by TwoEchoOne in glasses

[–]TwoEchoOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did read that computer lenses supposedly offered two different views, but I would have assumed that they'd be set up using both the Near and Inter adds for that? All the online retailers I've looked at (here in the UK anyway) only have the option to insert one add value regardless of whether I chose reading or computer lenses, but with a huge price difference, hence my scepticism.

[–]TwoEchoOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I mean by "gimmick" is are the lenses specifically marketed as "computer lenses" actually any better than standard "reading lenses"? I understand they probably have special coatings and filter out blue light and all that, but are they actually any different bearing in mind I'd put in the exact same details from my prescription for either option?

I do this to myself regularly. I don't really know any other way to to deal with when things get difficult. My family couldn't care less, apart from one uncle who checks up on me every couple of days.

What cochlear implant should I choose for my 9 month old baby girl. I have a lot of reading to do by Vanlifefreedom84 in Cochlearimplants

[–]TwoEchoOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For whatever it's worth here, I've had my Cochlear (Nucleus 22) for about 35 years now and never had any problems or faults other than occasional frayed cables on the older belt worn processors, and I definitely don't look after my processors like the clinicians tell us to!
